Moderately expensive restaurant with terrible service. We were a group of 8 guests that sat for long periods of time without any attention from the staff. Some of the dishes served were very good, others were sub-standard for any restaurant.
Specifically the rib-eye steak was not recognizable as such and contained excessive connective tissue. Perhaps this was a result of the "grass fed" method of raising beef cattle on the island.
We had to request cocktail service at the beginning of our visit and twice more during our meal. The waiter did not once visit the table to check if we were satisfied with our entrees or to see if we needed additional drinks.
We've been going to the big island for years, I have not experienced service this bad during that time.
Excellent service. And we loved the new food items.
Pleasant atmosphere. Great food. Perfect for a date night, especially Valentine's Day.
The view was so pretty couldn't beat listening to the music from the lu'au. The food was so ONO. Can't wait to go there again.
Paid $20 for a plate of lettuce and some shrimp.... pretty blah...
not impressed with main courses.. crab was either very bland (like watered down) or too salty and one batch was still frozen! prime rib was bland and cut and served in thin slices.. rice was dry. poke not great... overall, food not worth the buffet price
The buffet was very good but the service was outstanding!
Service was excellent and food was delishes! Highly recommend.
The food was alright. Prime rib was the best part. My husband was hoping for more seafood at this buffet. At $55.00 per person, it wasn’t worth the price.
Dinner was enjoyed by all. I ordered the fish of the day and it was cooked perfectly. Others ordered sushi rolls and spinach salads and commented that those were both delicious. Service was great too. We would return on our next trip to Kona.
Although Open Table showed me the ala carte menu (which was reasonably priced), the only dining option available to us was the dinner buffet, which I assumed was going to be in the $25-$35 per person range. We'll, shame on me for not checking in advance - when the bill came, I was shocked to see that the buffet was $50 per person (before drinks).
This turned out to be our most expensive meal on the Big Island, and although it was a good buffet, it certainly wasn't $50 pp good! My mistake - it was a good meal, but don't make the same mistake I made!
Awful food. The ramen overcooked and likely came out of a box. The Pizza was not fresh. Service was as slow as molasses. Overall terrible experience.
Service was beyond horrible. Took 20 minutes after seating to get our drinks. Waitress was never around. Had to flag her down for anything. Food was not worth the price
We went for New Year’s Eve. It was the same menu as the pool bar. It was completely lack luster and the service was very poor.
The reason I chose this location was the affordability it listed plus water front. The entrees were much more than expected. It must of been an average of the breakfast entree & dinner combined. I think it was listed as $30-31 entrees and under. It was more like $38 and under.
Too expensive and the food wasn’t that great
Great place for crab legs. All you can eat!
Great place for family and friends, not stuffy, and has a great open area seating if you don't like the indoors, located close to the Kailua Kona pier as well.
Awesome!! Food was great vibe was chill would def recommend
We booked for a XMas dinner and was extremely disappointed with the restaurant. Floor and tables weren’t clean. No Christmas feeling when it was announced as a XMas dinner. The place smells so bad that we finished our dinner so fast and got out. Didn’t realize that Marriott will allow this restaurant to stay open
We were disappointed we booked Honu’s ‘on the beach’ for our Christmas dinner when we arrived and found out we were seated in a banquet room that look like it was from the 70s, nowhere near the tables on the beach ..there wasn’t a very large selection of food for a $70 per person buffet.. we had read that there was a Business elegant dress code and when we got there they were teenagers in belly shirts and jeans shorts, A woman in a bikini with a beach cover-up. The food was OK, the crab legs had been sitting in the dishes so long they were soft and couldn’t be cracked open. I have never left a bad review for anything before, and I wouldn’t normally for this one either except for the price we paid for a ‘fancy’ Christmas buffet, it cost us almost US$400 for four of us to have dinner here
This was a lovely meal on the beach in Kona, Hawaii which was on Christmas Eve. Food was so good. Service was excellent. I would certainly recommend it to my friends. Looking forward to going again.
This was Christmas dinner. It was quite an assembly line and there wasnt anything special for the holiday really. Disappointed. Especially for the price.
Well: The food was good BUT the atmosphere was totally impersonal! Crowded! Looking for a romantic dinner = Forget it! There are so many nicer restaurants in Kailua Kona! Very pricey and very disappointing!
Absolutely loved it! Far greater than what we expected!!!!
We thoroughly enjoyed Our dining experience at Honu’s! Great food, Great Service and Great Memories! Mahalo a Mui loa!
My wife and I had a nice time. We definitely be back.
Great food, view from patio was great and service was perfect.
The Thanksgiving buffet had everything we could ask for. Amazing food and service. Will return.
Sorry to say, not good. The table where we were seated was outside and quiet and nice. The food, for the very high price, was pretty average. We were very disappointed - somehow I think maybe a Thanksgiving Dinner in Hawaii may have been the issue. Won't be back.
I wouldn't reccomend this restaurant to anyone at all for any reason.
Very peaceful place to have dinner by the beach.
This place was phenomenal. I split three meals among friends and they were all delicious. The desserts were to die for too. This was My favorite meal Of my trip. I highly recommend coming for dinner.
Great location, service and meals.
Great value for big eaters and priced accordingly. The poke was fantastic and went back for seconds.
Locals love the crab, but not dungenes so we avoid.
Service was good, menu needs more variety but what we had was delicious.
Very accommodating for special needs diets. Staff was very nice and accommodating even though they were super busy. Open air and nice Water and Kona Town views. The people in our party with no special needs abosultely loved the buffet. All of the food was great!
The food was amazing and service wonderful. We had a view of the water for the last night of a large family Reunion
It was recommended to us and was excellent
Honu's was very easy to locate, being at the Courtyard Marriot. No complaints on the location, ambience, views, service, and food. Would recommend.
Everything was really good. But the crab legs were a bit over cooked and had no flavor. Other than that service was awesome and nice.
Food and service was excellent but the restaurant was extremely hot. We left cause it got too uncomfortable.
