About Honu Seafood and Pizza - Lahaina
Chef Mark and Judy Ellman have opened a seafood shack, right next door to Mala Ocean Tavern. Honu Seafood and Pizza also sits right on the rocks of the Pacific Ocean, with 50 beers, an organic and eclectic wine list, and an extensive scotch and rum selection. Mark and Judy have created an environment that soothes the savage beasts craving of oysters on the half shell, steamed clams and mussels, Crab Louis salad, a selection of Hawaiian seafood, as well as fish from the West and East Coasts of the US. Honu also features a 900 degree brick-oven turning out artisinal pizzas. Come to Honu, drink a local Micro-brewed beer ,eat some freshly shucked oysters on the half shell, and let your eyes and soul relax into the Pacific. Honu, like Mala, is run by Mark and Judy Ellman and their two daughters Ariana and Michelle. Remember, we always try and practice Aloha. Please come and practice with us.

Honu Seafood and Pizza - Lahaina Ratings and Reviews
As Always the food was excellent. From the stating chickpeas to the fresh Ahi and crab the dishes were well seasoned, carefully cooked and so so rich.
However, the biggest disappointment were the drinks. The Mai Tai rivaled only that of the one on Alaska Airlines (overly sweet, concentrated, without properly blended light rum) and the other cocktail stung with its ethanol despite having the usually softening egg white.
The food was excellent from the appetizer to desert. I got the lamb riblets (one of pupus) and it was plenty for a meal for me. My husband got crab mac and cheese which was delicious and then we shared the raspberry tart with marshmallow on the top and some lilikoi drizzle on the side. I guess that's their most popular desert and probably rightfully so. The setting is beautiful especially if you can get a seat near the window overlooking the water.
Amazing! It may not look like much from the outside, but don’t judge a book by its cover! It is charming and the food speaks for itself. I had the Mac n cheese, which was like heaven on earth. Seriously, skip the overrated and overpriced chain restaurants on Front Street and eat here! You will not regret it.
This is now my favorite place to eat on Maui. The seafood is incredibly fresh and cooked to perfection. The grilled Spanish octopus app was amazing. The local fresh catch was perfectly prepared. They were flexible with my picky eater. The view is beautiful. The service is top notch and very friendly. Highly recommend. Oh and “Practice aloha”, everyday, everywhere.
Great little place in Lahaina. Amazing place to watch the sunset with tables just feet from Pacific. Pizza was outstanding as was the Ahi lifeguard. Great service, great food, and great atmosphere. Couldn't have asked for a better first dinner on the island. Mahalo!
Honu's in the middle of Lahaina's "Restaurant Row" continues to impress.
Awesome seafood and awesome sunsets oceanfront, local style.. The Maine bay shrimp sandwich served on grilled brioche has become our go to dinner selection. The Dore catch of the day was fresh Papio (baby Ulua) which is almost impossible to find anywhere on any menu.
Peanut butter aficionados must have the peanut butter pie for dessert.
We love Honu - return every trip to Maui. Must go early for a cocktail at the bar then aim for a table right by the water. The Negroni Slushy is a favorite. Must also try an oyster shooter. As for other choices if you like octopus you must get their grilled appetizer. Any main is good and we see a lot of people order a pizza - though in a dozen at least trips we never have.
Our third time at Honu. Staff was friendly and moderately attentive. Restaurant was clean, the view fantastic. In the last couple of years our first two visits here were pleasant. However very little has changed including the menu. The menu lacks imagination and has become a bit predictable and boring. We started with the steamed mussels, the quality of the seafood was good but lacked garlic, us making the broth very flat. My wife had the Margarita Pizza which she described as flavorful but lacked that something extra. She described it as "middle of the road" and "standard". I had the seared Ahi salad. Again great quality seafood but lacked flavor. I could continue but won't due to lack of space and the fact that I am not a restaurant critic. When I come to Maui and dine I expect something a little different again the wait staff was terrific the quality of the food good the ambiance unbelievable. But in my opinion honu Lacks any creativity flavor or inventiveness and it's menu is now very stale. The value for the price just was not there. As much as I love the location, we probably will not return.
