Service was slow and not great. Duck was very odd flavor
The service here was terrific. Our waiter's name was Alex, and he was about as good as it gets with service, which is a rare find in Santa Cruz. The menu descriptions were enticing, however, the flavors didn't match up to expectation. The evening specials seemed to be the most enjoyed at our table of four.
Sat on the patio at sunset. If it’s a clear evening it will be an amazing view. Food was really good. I had the butter salad and pork belly lettuce wraps. Both were really yummy. Cocktails were good but expensive at $18 a pop.
Always great and Jason and Tamara were excellent! JP’s fried chicken is spectacular!
Best views in Santa Cruz - great food, good service.
Had a very special Valentine Day dinner. The Duck Legs Special was wonderful.
With the views of the surrounding golf course and the excellent food and service, this is one of the rare restaurants that one could describe as elegant. Total enjoyment!
Exceptional evening celebrating friends birthdays
Food was great. After being seated it was twenty minutes before someone came to the table.
This was a major "meh" for us. Beautiful setting but that was kind of the highlight for the evening. Service was extremely slow, like 30+ mins to get our cocktails, there was a moving bug in one of our salads and the tables were uncomfortable to sit at (they used a folding round table so my knees and others in our group were pushed up against and restricted by the fold out legs of the table). We had looked into getting married here and it was actually our second choice venue but after this experience I'm glad we ultimately didn't end up booking here.
This place is the best kept secret for an excellent dining experience! The food is delicious and presented in a very appealing way. The view from the dining room is beautiful especially with a full moon rising. We sat by the fireplace and enjoyed an evening with family.
ALWAYS terrific in all respects. "Best crab cakes I've ever had." "Fantastic gnocchi in Bolognese sauce." WOW was that pecan/whiskey ice cream good! VERY quiet, easy to talk, responsive service, excellent wine. HIGHEST recommendation.
We started out with the waiter wanting to take our dinner order, and not asking if we would like a cocktail or anything else to drink. After that, we ordered our food, which I felt was okay, but not up to their normal standards.
The table decorations, or decoration, for New Years Eve was very sparse. A little silver star thing from the Dollar Tree. That was it! Pretty sad. I could have brought some party favors from home, if I had known.
Also, we brought a bottle of Rombauer which was never put in an ice bucket, and was eventually poured evenly into three glasses. Guess we were all a little surprised, as we looked at our full glass of wine.
We have had many wonderful dinners and experiences here over the years, this just wasn't one of them.
Our rib eye steak was so fatty we had to turn it back. Very unusual for this restaurant.
Once my fav restaurant, this visit was disappointing. Very limited menu and the Paella that I ordered was subpar.
The stuffing was the best. Prime rib was equally excellent, meat was not watery like some restaurant prime rib. Smoked turkey just OK. Thai style brussels sprouts charred just right. Golden and red beet salad good, but goat cheese whipped a little too much. Selection of olives and cheese plate at might have helped. Pumpkin pie very good, but the "Crack Pie" is to die for--crystallized caramel, real whipped cream. I wish I could buy it somewhere. Buttery--get their recipe! As for the atmosphere, the view across Monterey Bay can't be beaten; as good or better than view from Chaminade, and not as cavernous.
First time returning here since our wedding almost 4 years ago and it was a really special experience. The food was amazing and we were pleasantly surprised to see our photo in the cover of the wedding photography album by the fire place ! Our waiter was awesome and the food and wine was spectacular! Cheers !
The service was great. The ambiance is wonderful with views of the Monterey Bay.
Excellent fine dinning experience!
Played the golf course and then went for dinner at the Hollins House. Food and service was great.
Wonderful food, excellent service (thanks for the extra garlic!), comfortable ambience, fantastic view, good friends, a birthday candle with no singing---what else could one want for an outstanding birthday celebration?
Delicious food and the best view in Santa Cruz - highly recommend it.
What a beautiful evening! Server (Mitch) was knowledgeable and great! The paella was over the top! We left very happy!
We decided to eat here for my husband's birthday. It's a gorgeous setting and the experience is true fine dining without pretense. The food is really good and the wine list offers a little something for everyone. We also felt it was priced reasonably for the level of fine dining they offer. We will DEFINITELY go back!
Amazing as always!
Everything about our evening was perfect! Your wait staff is always friendly and helpful! The food was delicious and the ambiance is always stellar! We keep coming back for all these reasons.
The food is always excellent. Whatever Chef JP chooses to make hits the spot every time. This time around he combined brisket bits with chanterelles, gnocchi and eggplant puree and the results were FABULOUS. The dining room was very quiet. HIGHLY recommended, as usual.
5 star experience
Incredible setting, service and food.
Hollins house never disappoints. Chef Jon Paul is great. From first course to last consistent quality and creativity
Love the Hollins House!! Wonderful food, great ambiance and Tapas Tuesday was so fun!!
Having made reservations in advance, I was shocked when I found we did not have outside seating. The confirmation did not indicate if the seating was inside or outside. We were given a very good inside seat in front of a large window which provided a decent view. We have attended Tapas Tuesday for the last several years, and found the food this year to not be up to par. The artichoke was under cooked, and the truffle fries had little, if any, truffle oil. Are server was very nice and food was brought out promptly. We may skip Tapas Tuesday next year, and when we go again, I will not use the Open Table app, but will call to ensure that we have outdoor seating.
The Hollins House experience is always great with excellent food, great service and an exceptional atmosphere! Whether it’s a dinner for two, a group of friends for a night out or a corporate event with coworkers, it never disappoints! Congrats to the team at Pasatiempo.
Great food and wonderful service, as usual, from Angel, who ALWAYS makes each meal a celebration, In this case, it was a birthday dinner and all three of us -- especially the birthday girl -- had a marvelous time. We all consider Hollins House to be the best restaurant in the county, and it's our go-to place for special occasions. Even if there isn't a specific reason to celebrate, each dining experience there is a special occasion. We'll be back soon!
Tapas are and have been fantastic. Every week there is some new delicious Tapa. Yummy
Great job to JP the chef!!!
Angel was the very best as our server! Our dinners were delicious and the menu offered something for everyone. One in our party is a strict vegetarian and she was not disappointed in her many choices. I had the chicken and dumplings, and highly recommend. This is one of our favorite spots for everyday dining and special events. Consistently great cocktails, entrees and desserts AND you are also treated to an amazing ocean view!
The restaurant is very beautiful and we were happy with the food. It would have been nice to have been asked what temperature I would have preferred my steak cooked as it was a bit too rare. Our dessert was forgotten but easily corrected by our waitress. Overall a nice experience.
We went on “Tapas Tuesday”. The portions were generous and food delicious. Don’t forget to sit outside to enjoy the view.
We had a delicious dinner with wonderful service, seated at a window table overlooking Santa Cruz and the Monterey Bay. It was a marvelous belated celebration of Father's Day--or what we in our family call "Cat Paw's Day"--at our favorite restaurant, and we enjoyed it immensely. Each of the dishes was exquisite: crab cake appetizer; fabulous steak for me and an outstanding lamb dish for the guest of honor; followed by the absolutely divine warm chocolate cake--accompanied by our favorite wines and port. Thank you for a memorable evening.
We love the Hollins House for Tapas Tuesday - the small plates allow you to try a variety of menu items. The avocado toast is always excellent, as are the Rosemary French fries with truffle oil. The golden baby beets were also very good. However, the King salmon was a little too rare for our taste, and the Thai Brussels sprouts, although tasty, were not cooked enough - we will not be ordering those again. The setting is spectacular - great view, peaceful garden setting, and good music. The service has always been exceptional as well.
Our food was fantastic and the service was excellent. It is my all time favorite dinner out.
