Hoku's has a breathtaking beachside setting with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean from every table in the multi-level dining room.
Hoku's does have a dress code; gentlemen are required to wear covered shoes, sleeved shirt, and long pants. Women may wear sun dresses to elegant evening wear.
Dinner: 5:30pm - 10:00pm
Booked for 27th year Anniversary months in advance, showed up 5 minutes early and were seated right away. We then then sat there for the next 20 minutes before anyone came to the table. Took our drink order came back took our dinner order and disapeared for next 30 minutes. Seafood tower was outstanding, salad was good, dinner was average at best. We each a butter knife the whole night, not sure was it was for we were never offered house bread which we other tables were getting offered. Came to table rarely and got refill on water once. Been there, seen it, was not exactly the experience we were expecting for our Anniversary... Have no reason or desire to go back...
Nice views and the food was good but not great. The service was very good and attentive.
First time with the new menu. Difficult to understand the menu. Food is placed in groups with appetizers in the same group as main course. Excellent waiter, Bob. Helped explain the menu to us. High prices for Honolulu for what we received. I had the moi. Warm salad. Overcooked moi and a very small portion. Steak small with a few vegetables. Bright lights, crying children. We very much enjoyed the "old" Hoku's and the old menu. Will not return. Many other restaurants at this price with good menus. Only change we saw after renovation were, I believe, new chairs and new ceiling lights and new menu.
As usual Hoku's didn't disappoint, the food is delicious and the service is excellent. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to have an excellent meal.
Consistently a great meal. Expensive, yes, but worth the price. Excellent wine selection.
Hoku’s continues to have *fabulous* servers and delicious food, and I can’t imagine ever *not* recommending it.
However, the current menu is confusing—I finally figured out that the groupings were not by appetizer, main course, etc. but it took some sleuthing. My mother had been there since the redesign and she was still confused. That adds work for the wait staff and is unnecessarily difficult for the diners. It comes off as overly pretentious and makes it hard to find the favorites you’re looking for. Mom had to ask about her favorite salad; I’d discovered it at the bottom of the menu mixed in with the rice options. I’m not joking.
Other than that, it was the usual delight (but in case I wasn’t clear ;-) it’s time to revert to norms for the menu).
Amazing food and service!
Hokus is one of the best Restruants I've eaten at. The food was excellent including the complimentary appetizers and drinks at brunch hour. Staff was very professional and friendly. I definitely would recommend the Restruant as one of the best dinning experience for everyone.
Everything was perfect
This place is gorgeous and the food was really spectacular so if your going my for a Splurge where money is no option then this is hard to beat.
However the 228.00 for brunch (pre tip) , for only two people with two mimosas each is really ridiculous.
I rate the service 4 only because we were seated half hour past my reservation time but overall especially Georgia is superb! Joy was good after I voiced my frustration of how they treated my husband with a cold shoulder when he’s about to asked how long more is the wait. I fell down on the slippery floor but I was not asked if I need to fill an incident report. Yes, I thank you for the one free lunch and my daughter’s small birthday cake..
We miss the fresh fish components of the menu. We are not keen on deep frying fresh fish.
Gorgeous restaurant, outstanding food, exceptional service - professional and yet warm and down to earth. Hoku never disappoints!
Lovely table setting for four, with unobstructed view of the scenic surroundings outside. Hostess was stiff and unfriendly. Charlotte, our waitress, seemed tired/ and going through the motion. Bob, the busboy, was very efficient and more personable. The bread rolls served were great. The popular poke musubi appetizer was excellent. The kula greens with tasty dressing, was refreshing. Two at the table enjoyed the prawns, one had the mo’i, and the fourth person had pasta which she ended up taking a portion home. The birthday surprise was a lilikoi cheesecake: excellent. I had the delicious panna cotta with jasmine rice and fruits.
HOKU’S is best for a special occasion and taking in the exceptional view and location ... too pricey otherwise.
Hostess was awesome! Hostess helped with the service. Server seemed disinterested, flat personality. The Hostess made us feel welcomed.
Had a grand time at Hoku's last week, both of us celebrated a pre-retirement. Hadn't been back for some years, like the new improvement in the main room. Chef Eric Oto puts his culinary skills to work, we are very pleased with the 5 stars menu.
Need a greeter at that heavy front door, unless something can be done. Had to put my whole 118lb weight to swing it open ;-)
Chef’s Tasting Dinner was not only out of this world in variety and flavors, but the presentations were works of art. The new menu also offered many choices. The Kina Kampachi Crudo is a favorite.
Excellent service from entrance to exit. Spectacular view, pleasant ambiance, amazing food choices, clean buffet table tops, timely replenishments, and most important - the food was delicious.
Taryn and Tony are outstanding. They took very good care of us. When we mentioned we were thinking of the whole fried fish, Taryn made sure she reserved it for us before they sell out. And she suggested that when we make our reservations the next time, we can reserve the fish at that time. From the cocktails, seafood tower, dinner rolls with the aioli, whole fish and dessert, absolutely perfect. Thank you Taryn and Tony!
The meal content does not match the price.
I went to eat Fresh Oyster but it was gone.
It seems that it is not now.
I thought that the price of the child should be made cheaper even though it can eat only about 2 dishes.
Waiter was very good. Food was small we had to go eat somewhere else after especially for the price. My scallops tasted funny. And my water was dirty. Husband said the filet was good just not enough food.
Outstanding food and service. Great new menu - tremendous plating and great taste.
We had a family birthday dinner there and it was amazing. The wait staff called us by name, wished us happy birthday and made our dining experience great. The views are stunning and the remodel of the dining room made it every elegant.
Went for our daughter’s college graduation celebration. Staff was great, and the food was fantastic.
The desserts, in particular the Big Island Goat Cheese Cake, blew us away!
HOKU Has a new menu................it is a bit complicated to understand at first but our server did an excellent job explaining it allowing us to navigate through.
Hoku supplied appetizers................a real treat and high value
We found HOKU's topped our list of HIGH END restaurants attended this week.
No. 1 The attention to detail, farm to table concept, variety makes is our BEST CHOICE.
Not easy to find a "fine dining" experience in Honolulu, but Hoku's really fits the bill. Imaginative and very well prepared food; attentive service.
Everything was marvelous , from the service to the food. A very enjoyable evening.
Foods and desserts were great.
But we had to wait 30min from the reservation time.
If it would be able to change the rules or something that everyone can have a table at that time, that will be fantastic.
Loved the experience! Tony was an excellent server and should be commended for his attention to detail and service!
I would definitely would recommend Hoku’s for any special occasion for anyone or just even wanting a great brunch/lunch!
Came here to celebrate my birthday after hearing my friend rave about this place. The prices are pretty expensive for what you get, which is to be expected since it’s the Kahala Hotel. However, the food was alright, we probably wouldn’t recommend this place because the prices were higher than the value. I got the filet mignon and I felt like the sauce wasn’t the best, it made it taste strange, I would have rather it not have been apart of steak because I personally didn’t think it paired well. My fiancé enjoyed his crispy moi with rice though. The drinks are overpriced for what you get, I feel like other places serve better tasting cocktails for a cheaper price. But we did enjoy the lilikoi dessert with a happy birthday candle, it was so sweet, oh and that glitter.
The seven-course Chef’s Tasting Menu was superb from the amuse bouche - melon custard with Ossetra caviar - to the dessert, a chocolate concoction with tangerine sorbet. The appetizers were Kona abalone with sea urchin espuma and sea asparagus; foie gras on sweet bread with pineapple chutney; two goat cheeses with beets, poached pear, pistachio and Illinois; shellfish ravioli in sake butter sauce, spinach and Shiro; crispy skin moi with long beans and dried-scallop nameko mushroom fried rice; and Wagyu tenderloin with charred hearts of palm, Brussels sprouts, shallot potato purée, and burgundy jus. If you’re staying on property, the Chef’s Tasting Menu with Wine Pairing is $175/person, without wine $130. $30 Upcharge for Wagyu over the beef tenderloin. Magnefique!
It was our first time since they renovated. Although it was a busy Mother's Day night, service by Bob was on point. Bob was very knowledgeable about the wines on the menu. It's a tribute to Wes (GM) his training and staff commitment.
Better than Alan Wong and Roy’s! Well done!
Honoring Mothers Day and our Mother/Wife; Hoku’s is/was her favorite place for dining
Highly enjoyed this pre-Mother's Day dinner with my wife!
Service was outstanding, views great, and food/wine exceptional!
Will recommend Hoku's to all our friends & clients in the future.
A restaurant was used in commemoration of the honeymoon.
Iwant you to do access method conveniently. If a shuttle bus is introduced, a timetable should put on HP immediately in case of change. It was regrettable that there was no oyster in a seafood tower. The dish was good, but it was slow to come out.
Though I was looking forward to it very much, it was a disappointment. I wish future's improvement.
Loved the Sunday brunch. Beautiful remodel and scenic view.
Delicious selection of seafood , sushi and meats.
Would have loved a larger salad selection, perhaps cheese board/breads.
