Got the seafood tower, lobster risotto, the chicken dish and the basque cheesecake. The tower wasn't anything to write home about. The shrimp were tough and had zero flavor. Crab legs were good. Risotto was good Chicken..it was awful. Tasted like banquet chicken. Tough and no flavor. To Hoku's credit the manager came over and apologized and took it off our bill. The basque cheesecake.....I've had basque cheesecake before and this one was disappointing. Not saying it was bad...it just wasn't a basque cheesecake. Overall I was disappointed. It was expensive and I expected more. I can spend that kind of money elsewhere and get better food. I do want, however to highlight the service. It was FANTASTIC. Staff was very attentive and everyone was "on it". Wish the food had been better.

We dined at Hoku’s during our stay at The Kahala Resort. The hotel itself was fantastic, unfortunately Hoku’s wasn’t. The highlight of our meal was the view. My fiancée had the Grand Tasting and I had the Tasting Menu with upgrades for Truffles and the lobster risotto. We also tried each other’s dishes. The main ingredient in almost all dishes was cream and/or butter. Very rich dishes which desperately needed some acid or citrus to offset. If it was one dish, understood, but every dish had the same theme, leading to a monotone taste profile. The lobster claws that came with the risotto was not sufficiently cracked and required a fair amount of effort to get the meat out (no crackers or lobster fork provided). I do not consider myself to be cheap, but at these prices, I was surprised at the menu’s myopic tasting profile and that a diner was expected to work for the claw meat. All in, over $600 for two people (no bottle of wine ordered). Not worth it and don’t recommend.

We had a stunning view of the beach. As soon as we walked in the host was very friendly took us to our table. As well as put in an order of 2 lobster tails. As we walked to our table every employee we passed greeted us with a "Hello, Aloha & a welcoming smile". Our server Jared was also very friendly & knowledgeable. Food was delicious! We had a beautiful & relaxing time. This is a absolute go to place! Mahalo Nui Hoku's Restaurant

The food was excellent and abundant but not including beverages with the total price of the Brunch seemed cheap. How expensive could it be to accommodate soft beverages..ie juice, tea, soda? We have wanted to experience this Brunch for years and finally did. Our server was very attentive as all your staff. Everything served was of great quality.

From the start, this was a very disappointing experience. When I made the reservation over two months ago, I had specifically selected “Hoku’s seating” instead of “Veranda open-air seating” because I wanted to sit inside the restaurant. The view, to me, is nicer, and the ambiance is more elegant. When my party and I arrived (on time), however, Hui, the hostess, proceeded to seat my party outside. I inquired why this was and mentioned that I had selected the Hoku’s seating inside. Hui acknowledged that I had reserved a table inside but said that they had given away the table to a walk-in party because they were hotel guests. This didn’t make sense to me since I made the reservation far in advance. If they needed to hold some inside tables for hotel guests, they shouldn’t allow so many reservations that specify the Hoku’s seating. Moreover, when I made the reservation, there was no indication or disclaimer that the seating selection was a preference rather than a conclusive choice. I’ve not had this issue on any of the four other occasions that I’ve had brunch at Hoku’s in the last year or so. (I did have a similar issue when they first reopened the brunch buffet). Nevertheless, the hostess insisted that we could not get a table inside unless we were willing to wait 2 hours. Of course, we accepted the outside seating, but this sullied our meal before we even began. Despite this, the food was good, and the service at the table was excellent. Our server, Reyne, was very friendly and very attentive. If not for the fact that we were seated outside rather than inside (and the unpleasant encounter with the hostess), it would have been a nearly perfect experience. The poor service at the start, however, soured the whole experience. It wasn’t until we were waiting for our cars at the valet that they offered for me to speak to a manager. By then, I had already given my valet ticket, so it wasn’t an option. Don’t trust the seating selection or the host service.
