HIX Oyster & Chop House is situated a stones throw from Smithfield Market, London’s historic meat market. Originally a sausage factory and then a fish restaurant, many of its original features remain. The wooden floors, marble oyster bar, tiled walls and linen tablecloths go towards creating an elegant yet unfussy dining room.
The menu reflects Mark Hix’s signature British style with seasonal dishes featuring oysters from around the British Isles, and a selection of meats and steaks on the bone.
Happy Hour oysters every day 4-7pm. A set menu runs Mon-Weds £9.75 for 2 courses

He has worked as a resident musician in top venues in London, plus countless weddings, private parties, and fashion shows; corporate functions for blue-chip companies like Audi, Eversheds and Microsoft, and private art exhibitions for well-known artists such as Banksy. He plays both his own compositions and a wide range of Latin jazz and soul classics.

                                                                                        Not having visited Hix for several years, I was delighted to find the standards were unchanged - excellent menu, great welcoming service and at table. Outstanding Chablis 1er cru and oysters got us going. Sole needed to be cooked a bit more but when “re-done” was delicious as was my breaded pork cutlet. It was all a delight and my Swiss guest vowed to come back.

                                                                                        We booked this for my Husband's birthday on a Friday lunchtime; it was fantastic from the quality of the food, the extra attention paid for his special day and the service was perfect, highly recommend.

                                                                                        The restaurant was ok but they had not received the booking I made with you and this was not the first. Luckily they had room.for us but it means I would probably book directly in future.

                                                                                        Hix Smithfield was as usual brilliant but sadly I can’t say that for the booking system Open Table. When I got there the the restaurant had no record of it. There was no free table and were facing sitting at the bar. Got sat at a table one hour after the booked time.

                                                                                        We had the prawn salad and pigeon salad to start and beef and oyster pie and beef short ribs for mains. The quality of the meat in the mains was excellent. The short rib is brined and has a vibrant colour and texture akin to brisket. The only minor negative, not a fault of the theirs, was the restaurant not receiving the booking made via OpenTable. However space was quickly found for us (quiet on Tuesday evenings)

                                                                                        For a start they didn't have a record of my reservation but it wasn't an issue as the place was pretty much dead. Was 7pm on a friday but wasn't getting any busier as our meal progressed. Gin martinis were ok but have had better. my chilled tomato soup was gloopy and husbands smoked salmon was over priced - nearly £15 for a few slices. My main of bacon was chewy and grissly - it came with an oyster which was fine. husbands fish and chips - well you can't go too wrong with that really. service was good when we got the attention of the staff - very pleasant waitress. overall would totally not return or indeed recommend. much better places to eat out in London.

                                                                                        Great food and service. I ate here whilst having treatment at hospital and was so glad I made the effort. The steak was fab and the service even better. The Jazz band accepted my off the wall request to play "the cantina" from Star Wars which topped a fantastic and memorable lunch. Thank you.
