Hiro 88 - Old Market Ratings and Reviews
This is a regular lunch spot for us, but this time Mrs. Spork and I had a quick dinner on the way to the Omaha symphony concert. Very glad we made reservations on this busy Saturday night as there were quite a few people waiting for a table when we arrived and even more when we departed. Food was excellent as always and service was very efficient (but not rushed).
I chose Hiro because it's within walking distance to the Orpheum/The King and I.
The server (apparently) was overwhelmed, and we received little to no service. Our entre came before we received our salads/soup. Not good. She did apologize - but it was too late.
The food was delicious. The atmosphere is good, and it is close to the Orpheum.
Bar area ok better for quick bites and sushi, sit down restaurant weak severs more interested talking amongst themselves rather than serving patrons. Dinner delivered to table of 4 spaced 1 person had their meal dropped off over 10 minutes ahead of others and so on for others. Items described as crispy were cold, soggy and bland (calamari , chicken). Hit the bar for a drink if desired but the Old Market has plenty of places for that just skip the sit down restaurant
New Year’s Eve. So they were busy. Had reservations for a month in advance. Got moved to a smaller high table which was tight for our size of party, but we made it work.
They forgot to bring out all our food when it was ready, so half the party was done eating before the rest got their food but again, we made it work.
And they were very busy for the day. So I don’t hold anything against the staff, they did great and everyone was happy.
Had reservations and was running late so called to let know. Person that answered was rude and said would only hold table for 10 minutes and restaurant was very busy so would probably have to wait for long time. We continued to come, our drive was about 45 minutes from our house. This was one of our cold nights, -17 degrees and reason for being late was that husband is veterinarian and had animal emergencies. When we arrived our reservation had been totally omitted but the girl at counter did get us in immediately. Waitress was awesome and so was food. Maybe a little better customer service with phones would be helpful.
HIRO's is very accomodating with their menu. I only like certain vegetables and they will custom any dish (both in ingredients and spice level) that you want. This location has fewer options than the West Omaha location but they are supposedly adding to their menu soon. Conveniently located next to the Old Market. Good food, trendy atmosphere, and great service.
It was a business meeting and the sound level was high, we asked for a private table and they seated us in middle of room, the hostess just the menu down and walked away when I asked for a private table was not her problem.
No more business meeting for me at Downtown Hiro
I had a group of friends out after work for a birthday happy hour on Tuesday 11/21. The hostess was very rude when I asked for another chair for our table. She told me they had more reservations and couldn’t seat us until we knew EXACTLY how many people were in our party. After we sat down, she spoke very poorly of the group to the girl who was pouring water in Spanish. Um. I know Spanish. I don’t appreciate calling me and my friends names. And, we were there for several hours and there was never a point when the tables around us were full so I’m not so sure why there was a huge issue with one extra chair as we were providing more business than expected. Other than the hostess, the service was awesome.
We were all in town to go see a theater show.
My mom and sister and I try to go to Hiro occasionally when we can get to Omaha. We try new sushi rolls every time and are never disappointed. Although our favorites include the cornhusker roll and the Las Vegas roll. (May not really be sushi, but delicious nonetheless)
After arriving to our reservation we sat for 20 minutes wondering why everyone was getting service and we weren't. Later i found out our server walked out. Thankfully richard picked up our table and gave us GREAT service. He really did make us forget about the incident earlier! Thanks richard!!!! :-)
I don't know that I would necessarily recommend Hiro 88 in the Old Market. My friend and I were sat, and we had to go back up to the host stand in order to have a server come to our table. Additionally, there was a blue 'floater' found in my Mango Orange Mojito that did not belong there. When our appetizers came out, we had no silverware or napkins to eat them and had to go in and get them ourselves. Finally, when our sushi came, we were not given soy sauce dishes, so I again had to go inside and ask for them. Average food, below average experience for the money...kind of a nightmare service wise to be honest.
