Herb restaurant is an award winning restaurant that provides fine Thai dining in the Chicago area. The chefs use the freshest and highest-quality ingredients (mostly organic) while at the same time injecting their passion for the culinary arts in each and every dish. The restaurant itself is the creation of award winning chef, Patty Neumson, who grew up in Thailand. She has developed four seasonal menus for Herb that guests can order from, depending on the time of year. Herb has been the recipient of numerous awards and recognition for its cuisine. Winner of Guy Fieri's 'Spiciest Episode', and Chef battle '18. Won Best 100 Dishes in Chicago from Time Out Magazine. '15-'18 Michelin recommended restaurant. Zagat Rated in '17 as Best Restaurant. The food at Herb was absolutely amazing--which is why I am sorry I can't give it more stars. The service was a bit of a mess. It took us about 30 minutes to receive our first course--and then the timing was very good (for 4 of the 5 courses). The dessert took over 45 minutes to be served. Apparently they ran out of mango and had to go to the store to get more--but didn't relay that to us and didn't offer any compensation as a result.

What a wonderful experience from start to finish! The restaurant itself is lovely and inviting. The food is of the highest quality, delicious and artistically presented. We are fans of this gem.

The quality of the food and the presentation were outstanding. I've been telling everyone I know to dine at Herb. Service was excellent. I have food allergies and the kitchen did everything right. Too often accommodation means average or less. Not at Herb. All food is made to order. There are 3 choices of prix fixe menus. We both chose one stater, soup and one entree. The flavors were so different and each was excellent. I heartily recommend this restaurant and will be back soon. Nice wines, too!

A cute, cozy upscale Thai place in Edgewater neighborhood with a couple tasting menus including a plant based one. The plant based menu is interesting though the flavors were not always balanced (Thai cuisine strives for a ‘sweet, sour, salt, spice, bitterness’ balance). e.g. the frizzy tofu had good textural contrast but the sauce was too sweet and a bit one note. Dishes in general could have been a bit more ‘chili’ forward. The turmeric soup by far was the highlight among the appetizers with good flavor balance though with just a hint of background heat. Among the entrees, the curry was a bit more successful compared to the stir fry. Plating was cute/whimsical with (edible?) flowers on most of them. At $98 per person, the portions were generous and filling. Beverage options were limited. I do hope they will attempt bolder flavors on future menu revisions (on the plant based menu). Service started out a bit chaotic but settled into a better rhythm with the chef/owner checking in on us and explaining their ethos. Overall, this is an interesting special occasion spot with good service and decent modern Thai flavors.

My vegetarian entree was cooked perfectly- tender, fresh vegetables with just the right amount of heat. Chef Patty's personal touch made us feel so welcome. A delicious, lovely meal again.

What a great dining experience!! Herb has a wonderful take on modern Thai cuisine with 3 multi-course tasting menus to choose from. Beautiful, vibrant and balanced flavors in a space with a casual, contemporary vibe. Highly recommended.

WOW! Outstanding, delicate, intricate taste. Every bite an experience with a taste of someone who puts so much love into food and wants you to love it as much as they do, that someone is Chef Patty! Meeting her at the end of the night was icing on the cake as she just came to check on our satisfaction. And then the service, we ended up hugging our server Jenny who beamed with pride as she served each dish and kept checking like a caring aunt to ensure we are eating well. Loved it all and will be back!

Food was great. Unfortunately, service was not. It took 25 minutes just to get our beers and the time between courses was ridiculously long (and it's not a luxurious setting like some tasting menus, which makes you want to linger). After an hour and 25 minutes we got our main course and at that point asked for dessert to go. I've been a waitress and even if you're completely swamped, if people see that you're doing your best to be attentive and have a "service" mentality, you can receive a lot of grace. This waitress somehow seemed to glide through the restaurant without ever looking at her tables to see if they might want anything. I know there were other tables that were also trying to get her attention. Additionally it was a set menu so delivering food and taking drink orders were her primary responsibilities. The other issue was just time between courses. Our soup was delicious but one was cold. And there were really only 5 total courses, two appetizers, a soup, a main and a dessert. Just took way too long. The chef is very talented but I won't be back unless i start to hear rave reviews on service
