Apparently everyone was ordering pizza and made us feel like we missed something? The Gnocchi with oxtail was delicious though
Bartender made a delicious off the menu pomegranate martini..
We were celebrating our 20th anniversary and Herb & Wood made it a very special night for us. My wife tried the roasted beet salad and I had the roasted avocado. Both were delicious. For our entree we had the filet, and it was also fantastic. We will definitely be returning!
Pricey, but good. Our waiter was super, but I can’t recall his name, young black man. Knowledgeable, friendly, on time with everything through our meal.
Great experience with all the staff from the moment we arrived to the time we left. Food was excellent with unique pairing of flavors. I would highly recommend and will be visiting again soon.
We have dined at Herb and Wood a few times now and this past visit was just as fabulous. There was valet parking available, which is very convenient on a busy evening in Little Italy. To start we ordered wine, their signature rolls and a special they were offering of Foie Gras with preserves and toast, it was delicious! As our entrees, everyone in our party ordered something different. Spotted Bass, Venison, Roasted Chicken and the Bucatini, each loved their choice. Desserts were PB + C, Pavlova and the Vanilla Torte, all were devoured! If you love Peanut Butter then the PB + C is a must, so original! Service was friendly and attentive. Thank you Herb and Wood for another fun and delicious evening.
While generally quite good, the restaurant needs more vegan options.
We came for Mothers Day brunch. There was 3 eggs benedict and 1 lobster thermidor. Once the order was placed the food came out extremely fast which tells me that the food was not being made to order. All 3 benedicts where warm and both poached eggs on each dish where cooked differently which again tells me they where also pre cooked.
The lobster thermidor was terrible. The food was cold and there was very little lobster and it was under cooked. I let the waiter know and it was sent back and I received a new one at no charge which I did not expect a free meal, but that was the right thing to do. The second dish was not any better. It was a little warmer, but lobster was minimal and once again under cooked. I did not say anything this time because we were trying to have a nice Mothers Day and I did not want to ruin the brunch. Lobster Thermidor is one of my favorite dishes and by far this was the worst I ever had. I understand it is a holiday and you are busy, but to serve food this bad at this price and knowing your restaurant to be one of the better ones is unacceptable.
It was very disappointing to bring family for the first time and to have this experience.
I guess it is more important to get them in and out and make the money and I am sad that I will not be returning to enjoy the good meals I have had in the past.
I came to Herb and Wood to have a fantastic meal not to be comped a free meal because it was bad.
Amazing experience! Outstanding customer service. Dutch baby was out of this world. Will come back for dinner!
We had Mother’s Day brunch here and it was an outstanding experience from beginning to end. The service was impeccable, the food and drinks delicious and the ambience welcoming and sophisticated at the same time. Can’t wait to return for dinner.
Disappointed that despite having an 8:45 reservation, was not able to be seated until 9:15. A bit late for dinner to begin with, so didn't appreciate having to kill 30 minutes.
The table for 2 we were seated at was sandwiched in between 2 other tables and close enough that we could hear both conversations easily. The elderly couple we sat next two was very nice and polite, so we didn't end up minding it, but would prefer a more private setting.
Food and drinks were excellent, as advertised. Really enjoyed the grilled avocado w/ burrata, the scallops, the roasted chicken, and the carrots.
Very noisy. Had to shout even for a 9:15 dinner reservation. Cocktails pricey, $14-$17. The menu is not straightforward, lacks headings, thus the wait person has to provide explanation. Shouting above noise must be very tedious for staff. The drinks and food were outstanding.
The waitress lack vision for the customer needs
Showing arrogance towards the patrons
The sides and entrees were very good and priced fairly.
We thought the starters were good but less impressive and pricey
Wines were expensive, cocktails priced as similar restaurants.
Nice plates to share and sample but restaurants encouraging shared plates may consider larger tables.
Second time at Herb & Wood. The food was tasty and well prepared and the ambiance was nice while not being completely comfortable. There was a film crew there which we were not informed of when we made the reservation. It made things uncomfortable.
Went here for my graduation dinner and absolutely LOVED it! Our waiter was great and had perfect suggestions and the food was amazing! 10/10 recommend!
Amazing delicious best restaurant in San Diego
I was invited as a guest to a business dinner and wow, am i glad for the invite! the menu was a foodies' dream from the really smooth and delicious chicken liver toast to the exquisite venison loin entree which was some of the most tender (and not gamy in the least) meat I've ever had! if there was anything not quite up to expectations it was the venison merguez sausage pizza - there was nothing distinctive in the sausage to taste different from a pork sausage. But, other than that, the entire meal was fabulous including the exquisite desserts, can i get a huge YUM?! If you love great food, great service and want a really great all around dining experience this is the place.
This was our first visit to Herb and Wood and we loved it. The food and the service were both outstanding. The décor is funky and fun. We menu is varied and creative and we enjoyed ordering a group of small plates and sharing different dishes. We were there early on a weeknight and the noise level wasn't a problem, but because the restaurant and the bar are essentially one big open space I wonder if it doesn't get pretty loud when the restaurant is more full. All in all a great experience and we'll be back.
Awesome restaurant all-around: food, ambience, service.
We went for our anniversary. There were lots of celebrations. The service was excellent. The wine list is a bit pricey . The food was creative and delicious. Nice atmosphere. Not super cosy but we could talk without yelling. We would definitely go again.
The service was excellent and attentive. Lots of good options on the menu even if you want to fill up on the small plates or appetizers. Love the food combinations and freshness. Worth a visit!
Most innovative restaurant in San Diego, Just made for people who really like the taste of food
Our food was delicious, fresh, creative, nicely plated, and we weren't rushed. Their wine selection is great, and their desserts are quite spectacular! We were there for dinner on a Friday night, it was very very loud, because it was packed, just keep that in mind!
This was a really terrific place - one of the best meals I have had in a while. Try the branzino wrapped in prosciutto and the homemade pastas - very good. Also - don’t miss the Iberian ham - served with homemade tomato bread.......
Fantastic menu! Seasonal. Waiter suggested great dishes to try. Must enjoy sharing small starter plates to really enjoy
The space is beautiful - certainly one of the most lovely restaurants I've been in. The food was uneven, as was service. We ordered two starters and a pizza to share. Instead of getting the starters first, followed by pizza, all 3 were brought out at once. This meant we had to either dig into the pizza first, or have it cold, after our starters. We asked the back server (who was quite good) if it was usual to get everything at once and he said no. When our head server came to check on us she was defensive and said it was what they do. None of the other tables around had everything come out at once. The cocktail I had was delicious, as was the pea & ricotta salad. Scallops were kind of flat in flavor. Pizza was good but not great. We declined to stay for dessert after the service we received. I'd consider going back for the more casual cafe but for a nice dinner out there are better options within the block.
One of my favorite restaurants, the food is fantastic and new items added to menu. Valet parking available for $9 makes it very convenient for parking. Great wine selection too. Can’t wait to go back, AGAIN
We are italian so try to let us experience italian food is very difficult. Menu proposition was not as good as expected and pasta was not cooked at all - I repeat we are Italian...we know what an “al dente pasta” is. Excluding food, rest of the experience was good.
Service is great the ambiance is beutiful every body is helpfull and nice, the food is original and great teast excelent!!!
One of the best spots in Little Italy. I highly recommend!
The food was generally very oily and rich. Every dish we ordered felt that way. It didn't feel fresh, just heavy.
We enjoyed great service and great food. After a week of dining out in top restaurants in La Jolla and San Diego, we chose Herb and Wood as our favorite.
I have been several times and unfortunately, it is not very consistent. The food was good don't get me wrong. Just not as good as the first time and my expectations go up with the price point.
The place is very nice. Modern and well designed. The food was 'so so'. The expensive pasta with picorino cheese (which I couldn't find in the plate) was more like a soup with veggies. Poor. The fish was really good. The wine selection very good but too expensive for this place (~100$+ a bottle? of just 'good' wine). didn't make sense. IT is not that 'cool or exclusive'. Service was excellent. Worth a visit but don't expect to be impressed. Paid 120$ for entree (light pasta) and main plate of fish, and one local beer and piece of pie. I shared with my son because i was not very hungry. The desert I asked for was not available. Expensive for the quality/dollar.
3 of our 4 dinners were overly salty. Also, unles you are in the $200 per bottle range, your wine will be warm and not served at the proper temperature. On a positive note, the vegetables were great. We had the carrots and the cauliflower.
The ambience was outstanding. The food was pricey but quite good. The service was very good and the food all came out quite quickly. Overall a very good experience and would recommend it to a friend
My boyfriend and I, who are foodies came here when on vacation to San Diego. Herb and Wood is one of the best restaurants we ever been to!! Everything we ordered was heavenly and well executed. Our waiter was also very friendly and had a good knowledge of the food. We ordered the carrots, which were by far the best carrots we ever had, the escgargot and bone marrow pizza which was unique and delcious,
Gnocci oxtail- delicious and garlic bread which was perfect. If Herb and Wood was in NYC we would definitely be regulars
I thought this restaurant looked beautiful and atmosphere was good however food was awful. Chicken was salty, pizza was dry and burnt, pasta was undercooked, and not much for dietary needs. Very overpriced for quality and quantity of food.
