Herb & Wood is the latest concept brought to San Diego by celebrated chef Brian Malarkey. Chef Malarkey has created a “Secret Garden”-style dining escape that incites long dinners, conversation, and culinary delight.

Our friendly and knowledgeable staff serve up delectable raw seafood dishes, house-made pastas, wood-fired pizzas and seasonal vegetables, along with the finest meats and fresh fish.

Very pleasant experience.
The Hostess was very nice and polite.
The Waiter was very knowledgeable, friendly and polite. Happy to help with any question.

We had a reservation at 1:45 and got caught in traffic, so we called the restaurant to let them know. The gentleman that answered was very understanding and nice. He said that there was no problem and that they would hold the reservation for us. We got there at 2:00, a lady said that the kitchen was closed and that they could not serve us. I explained what had happened and she was extremely rude and giving me an attitude. I said, that we had called and that they were going to take us in. The lady said that she could not control the kitchen and that they would not seat us. I kept pressing the fact that they told us it was ok and she continued to be very rude. Finally the manager came down and sat us for brunch. I love Herb and Wood, but i really thunk employees have to be smart and treat every single client with respect and priority.
Thank you I probably wont be going back.

The service was phenomenal, the restaurant is beautiful and every single bite of out food was amazing !!!! I would go back at anytime and would recommend it to everyone !

So good! Ambiance is fantastic and the food so delicious. Our server, Victoria, was spot-on with recommendations and she took great care of us. The oxtail gnocchi was amazing!

Our bill was around $88, and to be very honest I have been in restaurants with better value for that price range.
Also, because the bar is not separated from the restaurant, it was very noisy and my wife couldn't hear me from the other side of the table.

First we ordered the chicken liver toast and the beets salad. The chicken liver had a generous amount garnish. I was intrigued and wanted to explore more of the food menu. Next we continued our courses with the ox tail gnocchi that was wonderful. Enjoy !!

Disappointed. The the oxtail and brócoli were salty, and the lamb over cooked. Service was great, but the ambience resembles more a casual bar with high intense music than a high-end restaurant. The oxtail was so salty, that I couldn’t eat it.

This is my favorite special occasion spot in San Diego. I love the decor and ambiance. The food is outstanding and the staff do an awesome job with service. Sitting at the bar is the way to go- the bartenders are great!!

We recently had dinner at Herb & Wood with friends who were visiting us from Pittsburgh. Told them we were taking them to one of the best restaurants in San Diego and it did not disappoint! While very, very noisy, we had a wonderful dinner. The food was delicious! Angela was our server and she was friendly and knowledgeable of the entire menu. We started with the cheese pizza as an appetizer and it was probably the best pizza I've had in San Diego, EVER! Garlicky, cheesy and amazing! Two of us then had the Iberico pork with a vinegar-like sauce that was out of this world, my friend had the filet that she loved, and her husband chose the roasted branzino. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their selections and we were all members of the "clean plate club"! We then shared pb&c dessert - rich, creamy peanut butter mousse, chocolate whiskey cake, salted caramel & chocolate gelato! Oh my! Amazing!!! While Herb & Wood is expensive and very noisy, its worth it for sure!

We celebrated a birthday dinner here yesterday evening. The food was amazing. The flavors were awesome. The service was excellent. This will be added to our routine restaurants we go to as it really was perfect. The only critique, and its mild, is how loud the place can be. There was a convention going on and clearly many attendees decided to eat here last night and it made for a loud and boisterous space. Other than that, the whole experience was excellent!

Pizza and PB dessert were awesome! Cocktails were also great but ridiculously priced. Espresso martini was very average. Vibe was cool. Not as loud as it looks like it would be.

The service was very slow, they forgot a drink, and overall couldn't provide proper suggestions or feedback on picking dishes. We saw the neighbors waiter more than our own waitress.

Very trendy place in Little Italy that is full of energy. That energy flows into the ambiance of the restaurant with a open airy feeling with a significant noise level from music and conversations. Food was good but not show stopper level that you would expect for the price. Main courses were unique but not memorable. Appetizer and dessert were the highlights. If you want to be trendy, this is the place to be. If you want top level food you might want to explore other gourmet restaurants.

Instantly fell in love with this place! From the decor, to the ambiance, the energy, service and food! If you haven’t been, get here ASAP!!! I can’t wait to go back!
The lamb and gnocchi were both outstanding dishes and cocktails are delicious!

Great Farm to Table restaurant with a creative menu. We loved the roasted carrots starter & desserts. Fun list of cocktails to kick off a dinner along with a notable wine by the glass list. The noise level upon arrival was a bit challenging to hold a conversation in the main dining room due to being a busy week night but improved during the course of dinner. Service & food presentation was great making it a very enjoyable night out!

My husband and I were visiting San Diego from out of town and wanted a nice place to eat for our anniversary. Herb & Wood did not disappoint!

Our server was so sweet, and she seemed genuinely excited to be waiting on us. Good drinks. Food was delicious, especially the Oxtail Gnocchi and the PB&C dessert. Would go here again in a heartbeat. Thanks for a lovely evening!

I realize Brunch is not the best measure of a restaurant. But our first and only visit to H&W was a brunch that left much to be desired.

Service was very slow. We entered at 11:05 am and saw no food until just before Noon. It never helps to be seated at a poor location, which we were, right next to dishwashing room. We endured a steady stream of carts and servers with dirty dishes.

The Steak Hash consisted of lots and lots of potatoes, a few slices of admittedly tasty steak, a soft boiled egg on top, and traces of red pepper. Not really a hash at all.

We ordered a croissant ($7!) which was exquisite, but our coffee cup remained empty for the 5-10 minutes it took to enjoy it.

I know this restaurant aspires to better, but fell short of the mark on our visit.

Highly recommend! The space is beautiful, the staff are attentive, and the food is delicious (we had practically half the menu with no disappointments). Cocktails were pretty good and the wine list is extensive, if slightly expensive. We had a large party but Herb & Wood really caters well to any date night or group party.

The duck presentation was a nice flavor but please!- cut the fat off before you serve it!!! We don’t want to spit fat out with every bite.
Also, the passion fruit soufflé should be a constant- none of the present desserts can get close to it!!!

This was our favorite restaurant in Little Italy on a recent trip where we stayed in the Gas Lamp district. Excellent service, phenomenal food, amazing ambiance. Definitely will return as well as research other restaurants the chef has.
