Beet salad was the best I’ve ever had! Yummy. Service was awesome. Blue cheese olives in my dirty… simply the BEST!!! Was glad I could take my brother to his first Marlkey restaurant! He loved it!!
Had a wonderful time there for our anniversary excellent service and we were full and didn’t get dessert but they provided a free ice cream with cookie which was delicious
Gorgeous restaurant! Food and drinks- amazing!
I will definitely come back! I
The ambiance is fun but the music is super loud which made it a bit over the top. The food was good but definitely not five stars amazing. The menu needs to have more diversity and flavor.
Excellent friendly service; fresh fish amazing; creative menu
Hands-down the finest restaurant in San Diego.
Phenomenal. Only a bump on a log would not enjoy this restaurant.
Wonderful food and service.. just very loud!
Food was overall delicious. A few misteps, our drink had a large hair wrapped around the garnish and the bison was cold when served to the table.
However, the waitress was great. Carrots side and pork entree were to die for.
Were happy to get a reservation on a Saturday night (7/31/21) but very unhappy to be seated in the "overflow" dining room when there tables available in the main dining room. We were seated in an empty room, drinks were ordered and delivered. An then, a large, loud party was seated right next to us when plenty of other tables were available - this room was empty! We asked to be moved, and we were moved to the main dining room. My husband expressed his disappointment that we wouldn't have our same waiter and the waiter replied "you asked for it"!, not once but 3 times he said this and in a very unkind tone. How rude! We simply wanted a nice table. We were not asking for a different waiter. This is not the time for waiters and staff to treat patrons in a disrespectful manner. We are happy to support local restaurants but not to be disrespected!
Best experience we have had on a date night in a long time. With the service industry struggling to hire and train quality employees, we have had many underwhelming experiences at restaurants lately. This was absolutely not the case at Herb&Wood! From the moment we walked in we could tell we would be in for a treat. We were welcomed immediately. The host made sure to wait as we sat and welcomed us again. We were immediately greeted and offered water. Our server was engaging and knowledgeable. The food was amazing. We will definitely be back and I highly recommend this restaurant.
Food was great! Ambience was fun and hopping! So much staff to jump on every need you may have.
We had dinner here this past Friday and could not say enough good things about this place! There were 4 of us and all of us agreed that it was one of the best meals we’ve ever had. The service was awesome and there was a very energetic vibe throughout the whole time we were there. We can’t wait to go back the next time we visit San Diego!
We had never been to this restaurant before and went there to celebrate my husband's birthday. We needed a place with great cocktails, vegetarian options, fantastic desserts, and really wanted there to be an energetic vibe. It was an awesome and fun experience through and through. The food was excellent with a modern edge, the service attentive but non-intrusive, and the vibe on point. Thanks for a great experience!
Incredible food and attentive, friendly service!
Super loud and over crowded. Not covid safe at all, but we enjoyed our meal and had great service!
Every dish was overly salted (from the beets to the whipped feta and entrees) and the bread served with the bone marrow was stale.
Our host was generous with providing a complimentary corkage.
We had the whipped feta appetizer which was amazing. It came with toasted rustic bread which was perfect. The branzino which is their signature dish was wrapped in prosciutto and tasted delicious!
Everything was fantastic! Service was stellar, as was the food and the wine. Server gave us a really good recommendation for a bottle of wine. Loved the whole experience.
Coming from a family in this industry, hire more diverse servers. Your server Zach was making his sales. I noticed all the dishes he recommended was the most expensive from the menu. The most expensive doesn't mean the better tasting. I asked for the best seller, he recommended the same. Please teach him to cater to the needs of the customer not his personal pocket. This was my first time to one of Malarkey's restaurants. The young man who took me to my reserved table did a phenomenal job. I learned that this was his 2nd day. However, I did not understand why we were taken all the way to the back where the cooks were. I felt segregated. People of color was separated and not mixed in the crowd. The young Mexican lady who started me off with water also did a superb job. She was extremely personable. Then Zach came around. I told him this was my first time. had a good start. While waiting for my friend, started off with my first drink. Then I asked about the menu. After dinner with my friend, I requested to itemized and split the bills. He gave us one receipt. When Zach returned I asked him to itemized the bill according to what each person ordered. He came back with two receipt. He did not itemized the order. Each receipt has a total sum. He said I don't know your names so I'm not sure which belong to who. I will recommend this place to my white friends maybe they will better serve them, but my color friend, will recommend them somewhere else. Lastly, while walking out, no one greeted us the girl at the front desk was too busy playing with her nails.
Our waiter was amazing - he had great suggestions on food and wine pairings. We have been here many times - and this was one of our best visits! We celebrated our 26th Wedding Anniversary - and it was really special.
10/10 !!! We had a really great time, Definitely coming back !
Excellent food and service. Would definitely visit again.
An adorable spot that seems like a hole in the wall, but really packs a punch with food, flavor, ambience, and service. The drinks were delicious, followed by the roasted oysters and whole branzino. We wanted to stay for dessert, but were just too full!
Our waiter was very knowledgeable about all the wines and dishes, and also had a good sense of humor when he would come and check in with us.
This restaurant was recommended to us, and I truly can’t recommend it enough after going. Delicious!
one of my favorite spots in San Diego for any celebration of any sort.
The ambiance is so beautiful, whether you dine in -doors or in the open patio. Our waitress was attentive and great. Such a great, fine dining experience.
Our server made recommendations which did not disappoint us! Each dish had a distinct personality. Service was well-timed and never intrusive. Appreciated the fresh plates and utensils with each course, as well as serving utensils. Fantastic dining experience!
Great service but everything was way saltier than it needed to be. As in the pasta itself was even too salty!
One of my favorite places in Little Italy, San Diego
The best bransino I ever had!
Love coming down to Herb and Wood, always a great meal. First time in for Brunch and we really enjoyed our breakfast.
Wonderful brunch. Great service, great food - including the basic breakfast and french toast and french press coffee. Would do it again in a heartbeat.
I highly recommend this restaurant. Staff was so nice. We are going back to celebrate our anniversary next!
Good only noisy
Rigatoni was too salty to eat.
Fantastic night out for our anniversary. Great food, service and lively atmosphere. Definitely recommended!
Food and drinks were delicious! We don't usually get an app and dessert,
but the portion sizes were small enough and since our app and entrees were delectable, we could not pass on dessert. Outdoor space had a retractable roof which was great, because it unexpectedly rained. It was lively, but quite loud so not best for serious or intimate conversation.
Excellent drinks, octopus was great, fillet was great, tuna was great, service was great, whipped feta was a little basic but also great.
Honestly, not great.
We were sat in the most ugly corner part of the restaurant with no view of anything other than someone’s stroller that had been left on the side of the wall. Our plates and napkins were dusty and there was a fly that relentlessly attacked us throughout our entire meal.
The food was mediocre at best for an insanely high price. The pizza was dry and barely contained any ricotta, which was one of the primary ingredients.
Our server was nice, but disappeared after taking our order and never returned. He didn’t even deliver our food. Someone else did. We had to ask the person collecting our plates for the check.
Also, everyone has to pay 4% surcharge…for what? Why is this charge added? What is the reasoning? Nothing is explained.
