Herb & Wood is the latest concept brought to San Diego by celebrated chef Brian Malarkey. Chef Malarkey has created a “Secret Garden”-style dining escape that incites long dinners, conversation, and culinary delight.

Our friendly and knowledgeable staff serve up delectable raw seafood dishes, house-made pastas, wood-fired pizzas and seasonal vegetables, along with the finest meats and fresh fish.

Outstanding ambience, aesthetic, service, food and drinks. One of the best meals we’ve had, a great time during this trip to San Diego. Bronzino is a favorite, their specialty and like none I’ve had before. Pork belly was also outstanding. Great bar and cocktails. Definitely worth a visit, will be back next time in San Diego.

Great food small portions. Need to order at least two appetizers to share among 4 people. Preparation was excellent. The ribeye with creamed kale needed a lot more kale. It’s not available as a side dish. But it was delish.

Arrived exactly on time for an early evening weekday dinner. Reservation was made a few days prior. Got seated at a table across from the service entrance on the patio. The patio is beautiful, by the way! Asked for the patio table next to fireplace but it was reserved for an employee. I was disappointed but also was very impressed by their respect of an employee's dining experience. Speaks very highly of the management at this restaurant. I did request a different table and was accommodated in the main dining room. The food is very good but very rich. Lots of sauces, which are not my preference but I know many people love that. The service was good; however my dining companion has a very specific food allergy which we discussed with the server. She assured us the entree would not contain that ingredient. She brought the entree and assured us that "Chef" has omitted it, and even joked about it but then another server swooped in and removed it. Apparently she had brought the wrong entree and thankfully someone realized it quickly. All was fine, but perhaps a little less jocularity and a little more focus on a serious food allergy is warranted? Overall, this is a lovely restaurant with a capable, well-trained staff. The corkage fee is $35 if you bring your own wine. That is a bit steep, but I completely understand the need for the fee and appreciate the option to bring our own wine. The manager made sure we had the correct glasses, which exhibited grace and polish on his part.

Our waiter Jeremy made our dining experience even that much better. He was helpful, friendly and had some wonderful suggestions. He even picked a glass of wine for me,that I found out was from the same winery I visited and loved in Sicily. The Duck and Pork were amazing. Wasn’t impressed with the bone marrow, but the hamaich was very tasty, with lots a flavors. Ended my dinner with the lemon and blueberry dessert, absolutely wonderful!!
Look forward to coming back!!

I have eaten in many great restaurants. This is probably one of the top two. Everything was great - the space, the food, the very knowledgeable waiter. Would highly recommend.

My main came out while I was still eating my salad. The server just kind of shrugged and placed it on the table. The restaurant was not particularly busy but I felt as if they wanted me out as quickly as possible. Not a fun evening.

Great restaurant, the food was really good and the decor is worth the visit. The food was delicious at an upscale price. Like many restaurants the noise level made it difficult to have conversations, so probably best with small groups so you can stay close and keep everyone involved in the conversation.

Love, love, LOVE!
The restaurant was amazing, so gorgeous inside! Service was friendly & quick. Food was absolutely delicious. I had the Maple Glazed Pork Belly Benedict with a blueberry-pineapple mimosa. So yum. Everyone in my party enjoyed their food and the atmosphere!

This was our 2nd visit and loved it as much as the first! Had the Iberico Pork dish this time and it was probably one of the best dishes I've ever had (and I'm from Chicago!)
Everything here is top notch - food, ambiance, service - you won't be disappointed.

The facility is very nice and well decorated. The staff was friendly and did their jobs well. The food was all quite expensive but tasty. My biggest complaint was the volume. This restaurant was very loud and made it nearly impossible to have a normal conversation with my wife across the table. Otherwise it was a good experience.

Great decor, extremely noisy and we could barely hear each other speak. Food was mediocre and over priced. Beet salad was under cooked with no taste. Bar crowd pushed up right against our table. Sorry not a fan, though server was great!

Food was amazing - cocktails were amazing - cool vibe but way too loud - cannot have a conversation. And could barely hear the waitress explain menu and specials - service was good but did feel a little rushed I’d recommend but be warned of noise level for sure

We both felt the entre meals were overpriced. Our appetizer was delicious as was both vegetable sides. We both ordered the $58 steak and what a disappointment! Lots of fat and my husband’s steak was really tough. We were both anticipating the peppercorn sauce and you could not taste it at all on his steak and only on a couple of bites on mine. We’ve experienced some outstanding steaks at various restaurants in San Diego but these were certainly not one of them. We did mention this to server and he offered to have the chef prepare another steak but by the time he checked back with us my husband didn’t want me to have to wait and it wasn’t that great of a steak anyway. He did bring us a complimentary desert.

The food and service was great. Our fish and pasta dishes were perfectly prepared; the octopus appetizer was tasty and the right size. The service was attentive without being overbearing.
It is expensive but worth it for a special occasion.
We had an early dinner and by the time we left at 7:15 the restaurant was about half full and starting to get noisy. Lots of right angles and no noise deadening makes us concerned about noise when the place is full.
The address is Kettner but the entrance is on Ivy. There is no signage on Kettner and no arrows pointing the way. When we left others were trying to figure out where to go. Very annoying, and there are simple fixes.

We had a reservation at 1:45 and got caught in traffic, so we called the restaurant to let them know. The gentleman that answered was very understanding and nice. He said that there was no problem and that they would hold the reservation for us. We got there at 2:00, a lady said that the kitchen was closed and that they could not serve us. I explained what had happened and she was extremely rude and giving me an attitude. I said, that we had called and that they were going to take us in. The lady said that she could not control the kitchen and that they would not seat us. I kept pressing the fact that they told us it was ok and she continued to be very rude. Finally the manager came down and sat us for brunch. I love Herb and Wood, but i really thunk employees have to be smart and treat every single client with respect and priority.
Thank you I probably wont be going back.

The service was phenomenal, the restaurant is beautiful and every single bite of out food was amazing !!!! I would go back at anytime and would recommend it to everyone !

Our bill was around $88, and to be very honest I have been in restaurants with better value for that price range.
Also, because the bar is not separated from the restaurant, it was very noisy and my wife couldn't hear me from the other side of the table.
