excellent quality of food and the environment is gorgeous!!
Wonderful Mother's day dinner ! Delicious appetizers and desserts! Can't wait to go back !
Delicious food, great service, hip environment- my only complaint is that I missed meeting Chef Brian!
A great place. The fillet was one of the best ever.
We were there for Mother's Day Brunch, set menu. We chose the crab cakes and were told they were all out. I asked if there was something comparable. Our waitress went to check with the chef and miraculously appeared with 2 crab cakes??? Very strange...
It would have been nice to have included one glass of champagne, nope all alcohol was seperate. We did not think the price was consistent with the offerings. We will not return on holidays with a prixe fixed menus.
First of all, I would like to say that I usually give out 5 star reviews for all restaurants in San Diego because they have exceptional food, value, and ambience. In my 20 years of living here in San Diego, I have never had a worse experience like this one. The food was terribly salty, the prices were extremely high considering it was basic food you could find anywhere, they had very limited choices, about 7 (did not even taste good), and most dishes were not available since they had limited stock. I would like to point out that the waitress had a great attitude and was extremely friendly, she was the only good thing that came out of this experience. I would definitely not recommend to anyone.
Food and experience were amazing! Our waiter, Jeremy, was great!
We made a reservation for Mother’s day brunch and the food, ambiance and waiter service was top notch. Even my tween daughter who is a picky eater and usually poo poos things gave it a thumbs up lol. Glad to see that the Brian Malatkey chains have kept up to standards of fine restaurant dining even after the pandemic when I’ve noticed other restaurant chains have fallen behind.
We had to wait about 30 mins past our reservation time. We sat down and were greeted with champagne, which was very nice. This was our first date out in over a year and we were excited to celebrate our engagement, so this was a nice detail. All of the food was fantastic and our server was wonderful. I can't remember his name, but he had a Modest Mouse tattoo. I can't say enough great things about him and also his wait assistant was very attentive. We were very happy with our experience. Thank you!
Always enjoy Herb and Wood. Little bit of a delay getting a table. But, this was acknowledged and we were given a free glass of champagne.
I have been taking some friends on a whirlwind tour of great San Diego eateries and I couldn't miss Herb and Wood, which is one of my very favorite restaurants.
I'm going to tell you, go ahead and get the Oxtail Gnocchi and the Parker Rolls. I also always get a souffle for dessert. I LOVE that they always have a souffle. They do fancy stuff with it, but honestly, my favorite is a plain souffle with creme anglaise; I wish that would be a standard (wink wink, nudge nudge to Chef Malarkey)
I was happy that we got a great waitress, Krista- she actually was the same one I got the last time I was here. She remembered me and I feel bad that I didn't recognize her... granted, she was masked both times.
Okay the VERY best highlight of this visit?
I met Brian Malarkey and he was so cool! One appetizer didn't come out the way I thought it might and I mentioned it to Chef and Krista and they remade it. Guess what? It was THE best pork belly I've had in a really long time, if not ever... my friend said to me, " I didn't know that pork could taste like that. It's so good."
Another cool thing about Chef and Owner, Brian Malarkey, he's humble enough to this day to still bus a table. That's someone who is still rolling up their sleeves and working. He isn't resting on his laurels. He's still in it and I think that takes heart.
One surprising winner for me this time was the chorizo pizza! Spicy and sweet = delicious.
I will be back!
PS Chef Malarkey was kind enough to take a photo with us, but none of them came out. Sad. Oh well. Better to have the memory than a photo.
Best seat in the house for people watching. Food was glorious, from the “Parker House” rolls to the roasted oysters to the pork and pasta entrees, all was delicious! Our server was knowledgeable and very attentive.
Little too loud inside and couldn't hear staff super well, otherwise amazing!!
Her and Wood has become my favorite restaurant between the service, the delicious food, the vibe. I’d recommend this to everyone.
Our server Jarred was amazing.
Wonderful dinner experience, staff was amazing and added a special congratulations for our special occasion. Great vibes and even better music!! Will def be back
We had a really great time celebrating our anniversary. Tara was amazing and gave great recommendations.
It was a Birthday celebration and the food was delicious! That blueberry soufflé was a hit!
Loved the decor and atmosphere! Food was delicious! We had the filet cooked perfectly and yummy carrots and broccolini. A bit loud as it was 100% full, but that was part of the fun vibe. I would go back.
There was hair in the pasta
From the hostess stand, to the drinks, the food, the service, everything was outstanding. Thank you for a great evening!
The food is absolutely fantastic but we were seated in the Herb and Wood cafe/bakery area which really pales in comparison to the dinner ambiance of the main dining room which I’ve sat in on my previous visit. I was hoping for a dimmer lighted cosy atmosphere of the main dining room and the cafe is really a bit cold.
A little pricy, and loud, but amazing food and fantastic service
Excellent oxtail gnocchi. Unreal. Loud in the restaurant. They could turn the music down some
Waiter was very nice, but service was super slow. Had to ask twice to order drinks, again to order dinner. Food was excellent- salmon, sea bass, calimari
The mushrooms were outstanding. Oyster with bone marrow magnificent. Lobster and Steak was perfect. Our waitress was superb. It was an expensive evening, but we’ll worth it. Can’t wait to go back!
Perfect meal to celebrate my birthday. Tara took excellent care of us. We enjoy her TLC every time.
One of the best spots in San Diego hands down
Service was excellent, unfortunately It took like an hour between appetizers and entrees and another half an hour for dessert, we waited so long I stopped being hungry so I could enjoy it, by the time we got home I was hungry again 😩
We were seated by tables next to bar. Bartenders should not serve drinks to people there, multiple people were served while we were trying to a dinner alone. Patrons are right on top of table and kicking my chair, very annoying. Area should be blocked or tables removed
Amazing service, great cocktails! Actually surprisingly good for families as they have the whole big private events space with larger tables and away from the louder/swankier main room.
First outing for our group of vaxxed friends who hasn't seen each other in a year. Herb & Wood was the perfect venue! Our server was amazing and her recommendations for what to get on the menu were spot on! Food was delicious! Ambiance and music were amazing!
Fabulous service, great ambiance, and wonderful food!
We had a very nice dinner with friends we hadn't seen in 20 years. They allowed us to be seated earlier than our reservation, which was nice. They were very busy, so I was glad to be vaccinated. It was a bit loud, but not because of music - just the crowd. Everything is very expensive, but we enjoyed our drinks and the meal.
I was excited to eat here , was my wife’s birthday the thing that really sucked was where we where seated, was seated on the back of restaurant felt like we where punished no ambiance at all we wanted to seat in the main restaurant not at the dungeon
No problem with food it was interesting and unique. Bill was weird with Chef changing menu prices and 4% surcharge. Just tell us the price and stop all these add ons.
Great drinks and food. The decoration of the place is amazing but there was too much noise. Overall great experience, a bit pricy for what it is, but would come back again.
We went for my birthday and had a great time. The filet was very good. The restaurant was at full capacity, I think zero extra spacing between tables for COVID which was a bit concerning but we just rolled with it since it was a special occasion. We would go again!
What can we say.....Fantastic Beautiful space. Some of the best service in San Diego! Love Love Love
The food was average at a high price. The service was odd. I have dined here several times and think the quality is slipping and the prices are skyrocketing. Also take the 4% surcharge off your menu. It’s not the way to do business. You’re prices are already high either say it’s included or raise your prices yet that is too bad. Dinner for 2 with 1 bottle of wine on a Wednesday $290. Not good
