Hemenway's Ratings and Reviews
Food was not as good as it has been in the past. No chicken on menu made it difficult for those who don't want seafood as it was a birthday party they had no choice but to come. Filet just okay. Pot roast awful-slimey/chewy and sitting on top of a tiny amount of watery mashed potatoes. Seafood casserole not good. Lobster bisque good. Probably won't return for another Birthday as menu is too limited. Okay for a couple who like seafood.
me and my family have been going there for many years and always had a good time my grandson which is a sports anouncer loves your place before he went back yesterday he wanted to eat over at your place so we went saturday night had great food and drinks and the waiter was great he waited on us before and he cares about your customers and my son-in-law likes your place when ever he is over we always go to your place with my daughter you people are great
Great place. Lots of options for seafood lovwrs and not the same old stabdards.
Very creative dishes. I had baked cod with clams with potatoes and chorizo in a seafood broth. Very good, as well as the sides. Nice wine list, too.
Theresa, our server, was very good.
Our dinner was well-paced and delicious. The local oysters and littlenecks were very cold and fresh and our server explained the different areas from where they were taken. The woman who was our server (Diane? I hope that I have the correct name.) was very efficient, without rushing us. She could not have done more to make our dinner a very pleasurable occasion. She is the best wait person that I believe I have ever encountered. This was an exceptional dining experience!
unfortunately both of our steaks were cooked incorrectly - mine was overdone the first time and way undercooked the second time. They got my husband's right the second time. The manager offered to give mine a 3rd try, but I didn't want to wait anymore since my husband was going to be done eating at that point. She did take my meal off the check and bought us dessert, but it was still really annoying and since my husband's was wrong the first time, they should have taken care of that too.
The waiter was very apologetic, even more so than the manager who tried to make light of it/joke about it.
It was my husband's 50th birthday and were looking forward to a great night there.
instead we took turns trying to eat - him his second steak and me eating my crab legs on the side with no steak at all.
I made sure we tipped on the full amount since our waiter was so great about it, but I wouldn't go back or recommend it to anyone.
Was in town and wanted an authentic New England seafood dinner. Had the New England clam chowder, steamed mussels, and a small lobster. It was all excellent and just what I wanted. My waitress was attentive without being intrusive.I would definitely eat there again if I was in Providence.
We had a friend in from Texas and wanted him to have very fresh seafood. They did a great job as always. The server didn't know where our oysters were from and after she asked she came back with "Massachusetts" which was not really specific. Otherwise everything was great.
Very disappointed with server and food. Server not attentive. Had to ask her multiple times for same items. My sister specifically asked for no salmon in her dish twice. Her dinner had salmon in it. I had asked for a lobster roll. The waitress checked with chef She said no problem. I was served a dry roll with lobster meat. I will definitely tell my friends and family very bad experience at Hemenways.
Two couples, everyone was very pleased and felt their food was excellent. Went on a water fire evening, sat by the window and could see the fires in the braziers. Only downside was their parking garage was full so had to go search for a parking spot on the road.
I received 2 positive recommendations for this restaurant, so off we went coming from out of town for a wedding. We were seated immediately and our server, Stacey was very attentive and accommodating. We had about 2 hours to eat before we went to a party and were not in a rush. Stacey didn't mind at all. We started with the antipasto plate and cocktails, and it was perfect for 2 people. Prosciutto, cheese, olive tapenade, figs with bacon and goat cheese were all delicious and could have been a meal. There was nothing left. We shared the halibut special which was cooked to a delicate crisp on the outside and tender inside. Served in almost a broth with gnocchi and vegetable, it was the favored of the two entrees. The other was the tuna under the chef specials. The tuna was good, but slightly tough - we could have used a steak knife, and the pieces were a bit thick for my liking. Nothing not to like!
Visiting from Denver, we were looking for a memorable seafood meal in RI. Hemenway's was definitely the right choice. We ordered oysters, chowder, stuffed lobster and baked shrimp and had pecan torte for dessert. Every item we ordered was prepared to perfection and tasted wonderful. Moreover, the waitress who served us was top-notch: attentive, but not intrusive, with a friendly style.
