Heck's at Devil's Thumb Ranch
Our server Daniel was warm, friendly, and conversational. We connected with him and enjoyed the evening thoroughly. The chef sent something special to recognize our anniversary. Nothing beat sitting in such a beautiful setting by a warm fire.
Great brunch spot for the family. Our server was one of the best we’ve ever had at Heck’s. We are locals and always bring visitors here to enjoy the gorgeous building and views. New menu is awesome!
Two words; Waygu Meatballs. Ok, two more words; Waygu Meatloaf. (Notice a theme here?) Seriously, we ate there twice within 4 days (and we were staying about 10 miles away.) Everything we ordered was delicious. Also, there is a very nice wine list. Unfortunately, the wine list was also the source of my only criticism. While I thought the bottle prices were quite reasonable, I thought the pour size on the wines by the glass were skimpy. Overall, would still recommend it. I would just say that if ordering wine, go for the bottle, not by the glass.
Fantastic! Delicious food, stunning view of the mountains at sunset with the horse pasture in full view. Loved having snores by the campfire with the kids!
My wife and I decided to treat ourselves on the last day of our Granby vacation, and Heck’s did not disappoint! Our food was excellent, the staff was friendly and attentive, and they even went out of their way to make our dogs feel welcome (we were eating out on the patio, where dogs are allowed). Overall a wonderful experience!
Best place to grab a bite and a view in the Frazier valley.
Excellent dinner and ambiance!
Skirt steak was prepared to perfection, actually rarer than the chef suggested but very tender. First Pisco Sour I have had since Peru that met the standard. My partner's rib eye was a little overdone and quite frankly not as good as my steak.
Honesty we have been eating here for years only for the scenic view when we have out of town guests. The food, service and overall service has always been fair to poor. It is comical how we always tell our out of town guests we come here for the view but the service and food is usually awful. As predicted it is always terrible service and the food is poor to average. It is a shame as the view is spectacular and it is expensive. Additionally, we arrived at 11:34 expecting brunch and was told it was lunch and since breakfast ended at 11:30 it is over and packed up. We asked if there was anyway our children could have a cinnamon roll as that is the only food item they enjoy we were told they would check but we never heard back from them and it was ignored. Again confirming for a nice restaurant/hotel the service is less than par.
Beautiful restaurant. Amazing for the view. Good drink menu. Food is good too.
Food was good. Unfortunately they were out of the wagyu chicken fried steak, which is what I really wanted.
We have eaten here every time in WP and have had slow service every time. We always think it's due to being off season but it doesn't seem to matter.
This place was outstanding! We did this our last day in Colorado, and it was so worth the wait. The food was amazing, but the service was also exceptional. Highly recommend!! A little pricey, but well worth it. Perfect for a date night or special occasion! The view from the back porch was breathtaking!
On two successive evenings, we tried both the Kale Superfood Salad and vegetarian main (roasted seasonal vegetables with grains) with added protein (steak and salmon). Both were great! View of the mountains is incredible. Service outstanding as well.
We had a great dinner at Heck's with friends. Our table was ready when we arrived, and we were seated in an area where it was possible to carry on a conversation easily (although a large party came to the nearby bar during dinner, which raised the noise level). The food was outstanding and our server was great--attentive without being obtrusive and able to handle minor glitches with efficiency and good humor. Devil's Thumb is a beautiful location--that enough would make dining there worthwhile. But to also have great food and service made it a special occasion for us and our out of town friends.
Everything was fabulous except the palisade peaches dessert - no peaches, all sugar!
Spectacular setting! We didn't realize how quickly temperatures dropped off in the evening there so we we asked to be re-seated indoors when we got too chilly- noticed other diners did the same. They were very accommodating. Our server was very personable. Neither of us eat meat, which can sometimes feel quite limiting at some places but I chose a splendid veggie pasta dish and my wife got salmon, as well as some fried zucchini and a fish spread with tortilla chips and salad which were all fantastic. Had a nice, reasonably priced bottle of Pinot. Unfortunately we didn't leave room for desert. Can't wait to go back!
The entire area is understaffed and they are experiencing that same issue. All of our meals had to be sent back for different reasons..undercooked meat or overcooked, etc. It took us almost an hour to get our food the first time and then had to wait once again for the food to be remade. The new menu is the best I have seen in all the years going to Hecks..
The atmosphere can't be beat. The food is delightful, the staff excellent and an all-around wonderful experience in a gorgeous setting.
Put Brussels sprouts back on menu
$24 for 3 beers is over the top
A stunning location, indoors and out, makes this a special place for a celebration. However, our service was spotty, though the manager intervened admirably more than once to help us. Food took too long to arrive and was not prepared according to our order (meats were undercooked). Hardwood chairs were uncomfortable for a long meal.
Devils Thumb Ranch is an amazing property; unfortunately Heck’s is not. The menu is uninteresting, and the service was poor. After our entrees were served, I had to remind the waiter that we also ordered salads and an appetizer - so we ended up eating those for dessert. We did enjoy the wine and beer selection. The meatballs, cheese and meat platters on the appetizer menu were very good. Heck’s needs to up their game to match the high quality amenities and service at the rest of DTR.
David, as usual was great. We had a nice leisurely supper to celebrate my wife’s birthday
Beautiful location and amazing food!
Very poor service. Steaks were undercooked. Waitress never came back to check on us for over 30 minutes after we received our food.
We have always loved Heck’s at Devil’s Thumb. It was a great go-to spot to enjoy a rustic and luxurious atmosphere and great food and service. However, the last three times we have dined there, the food and service were disappointing. Service was slow, and our server was forgetful and brought us the wrong soup. Food was over priced for the quality. And it’s a shame that dining room guests are no longer welcome to use the game room. Heck’s is quickly losing its reputation as a high-end family dining experience. I hope they take this feedback to heart and make the needed improvements.
We've been here many times. At first it was amazing. Recently service has been poor to mediocre. Very odd seating . On a perfectly clear day they will completely deny all outdoor seating on the patio . Which is entirely thie point of going there. The view is amazing. One day we were there 2+ hours making or own outdoor seating.... we accepted a table inside and kept moving our food to the patio after each drink and course was delivered ourselves because they refused to provide service outside . It never rained a single drop. Perfectly blue skies. Despite the hosts ongoing claim rain was predicted. I can read a weather app too. Just admit you are understaffed or or lazy.
We made a reservation for 8:30. Dinner was great but then at 9 they told us the kitchen was closed and the fries we ordered had never come, but then they said they're still a fryer on so they made us fresh fries. It was our anniversary date and we replying to have dessert but we're never offered a dessert menu. I'm assuming it's because the kitchen was already closed! Then I asked for a glass of port and the server didn't even know what that was and had to go talk to the bartender and about 20 minutes later they finally came up with a glass of port. I was very disappointed, especially being in a place that is supposed to be as nice as the Devil's Thumb Ranch! Other than that, everything else was pretty decent. A place for a nice rustic charm! And amazing views from the restaurant!
Amazing! Such a great experience all around! Food was great, scenery was amazing. I highly recommend!!
Lunch for two in a beautiful setting. One meal was fine, the other not, and the service was painfully slow.
Great dining experience on a summer, Saturday evening. We had the cheese plate, signature burger, steak, and shrimp and grits. Loved it all. Terrific beer list. The best selling point though is the surroundings. The view at Devil's Thumb Ranch is spectacular and the dining room is cozy, nestled around a fireplace. Well worth the drive!!
The Wagyu cheese burger was outstanding. Service was a bit slow but servers were super friendly. Would eat here over the Ranch restaurant next door. The view was lovely and would sit outdoors weather permitting.
My wife and I look forward to dining at Heck's during our yearly Colorado vacation.
Heck's is welcoming, has an interesting menu and terrific cocktails along with a good wine menu. Heck's crowning jewel is the view of wide meadows with grazing horses framed by the snow capped frontal range.
The meadows/ mountains can be enjoyed either by dining on the patio or after dinner around the fire-pit with a cocktail, a glass of wine or Heck's provided s'mores. A memorable evening that will tug at you for a repeat!
The food and service are always great and you can’t beat the view especially from the deck in summer
Great meal !
Service was horrible. If the wait staff is understaffed - manager, make a round and talk to your patrons. Absolutely horrible experience. Sadly, not the first time st this place. Service needs to definitely step up for the cost and locale. Come on. Get with it. To top it off, being mid-charged for a bottle of wine? Seriously? It’s in the wine list. Correct the error and move on. Very disappointing. The cost vs service vs patron desire to decompress and enjoy are not aligned. Go elsewhere.
Extremely disappointing experience. Slow, inattentive service; chicken pot pie and shrimp and grits were virtually inedible. Not at all what we expected. Do not recommend.
We’ve dined at Heck’s 5-8 times per year for the last several years and our last three visits are likely our last ones. The menu has become static and dull, the food quality now is outdone by large chain restaurants, the service has become slower and now the gameroom (my kids favorite thing about Heck’s) has been locked and limited to hotel guests. Really a disappointing decline.
Great service, great food, great view and all around great experience. Worth the trip!
Not only is the food, service and ambience superb, Heck's is one of the most beautifully designed restaurants around with a sensational view.
