Heck's at Devil's Thumb Ranch
Very poor service. Steaks were undercooked. Waitress never came back to check on us for over 30 minutes after we received our food.
We have always loved Heck’s at Devil’s Thumb. It was a great go-to spot to enjoy a rustic and luxurious atmosphere and great food and service. However, the last three times we have dined there, the food and service were disappointing. Service was slow, and our server was forgetful and brought us the wrong soup. Food was over priced for the quality. And it’s a shame that dining room guests are no longer welcome to use the game room. Heck’s is quickly losing its reputation as a high-end family dining experience. I hope they take this feedback to heart and make the needed improvements.
We made a reservation for 8:30. Dinner was great but then at 9 they told us the kitchen was closed and the fries we ordered had never come, but then they said they're still a fryer on so they made us fresh fries. It was our anniversary date and we replying to have dessert but we're never offered a dessert menu. I'm assuming it's because the kitchen was already closed! Then I asked for a glass of port and the server didn't even know what that was and had to go talk to the bartender and about 20 minutes later they finally came up with a glass of port. I was very disappointed, especially being in a place that is supposed to be as nice as the Devil's Thumb Ranch! Other than that, everything else was pretty decent. A place for a nice rustic charm! And amazing views from the restaurant!
Amazing! Such a great experience all around! Food was great, scenery was amazing. I highly recommend!!
Lunch for two in a beautiful setting. One meal was fine, the other not, and the service was painfully slow.
Great dining experience on a summer, Saturday evening. We had the cheese plate, signature burger, steak, and shrimp and grits. Loved it all. Terrific beer list. The best selling point though is the surroundings. The view at Devil's Thumb Ranch is spectacular and the dining room is cozy, nestled around a fireplace. Well worth the drive!!
The Wagyu cheese burger was outstanding. Service was a bit slow but servers were super friendly. Would eat here over the Ranch restaurant next door. The view was lovely and would sit outdoors weather permitting.
My wife and I look forward to dining at Heck's during our yearly Colorado vacation.
Heck's is welcoming, has an interesting menu and terrific cocktails along with a good wine menu. Heck's crowning jewel is the view of wide meadows with grazing horses framed by the snow capped frontal range.
The meadows/ mountains can be enjoyed either by dining on the patio or after dinner around the fire-pit with a cocktail, a glass of wine or Heck's provided s'mores. A memorable evening that will tug at you for a repeat!
The food and service are always great and you can’t beat the view especially from the deck in summer
Great meal !
Service was horrible. If the wait staff is understaffed - manager, make a round and talk to your patrons. Absolutely horrible experience. Sadly, not the first time st this place. Service needs to definitely step up for the cost and locale. Come on. Get with it. To top it off, being mid-charged for a bottle of wine? Seriously? It’s in the wine list. Correct the error and move on. Very disappointing. The cost vs service vs patron desire to decompress and enjoy are not aligned. Go elsewhere.
Extremely disappointing experience. Slow, inattentive service; chicken pot pie and shrimp and grits were virtually inedible. Not at all what we expected. Do not recommend.
We’ve dined at Heck’s 5-8 times per year for the last several years and our last three visits are likely our last ones. The menu has become static and dull, the food quality now is outdone by large chain restaurants, the service has become slower and now the gameroom (my kids favorite thing about Heck’s) has been locked and limited to hotel guests. Really a disappointing decline.
Great service, great food, great view and all around great experience. Worth the trip!
Not only is the food, service and ambience superb, Heck's is one of the most beautifully designed restaurants around with a sensational view.
We ate at Heck's three times during our stay at Devil's Thumb Ranch and enjoyed every meal. The service was very good; all servers were friendly and helpful. The restaurant's views are fantastic. It had a wonderful cozy and warm atmosphere. I would recommend for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
We booked the restaurant literally half an hour before dining there. The food was good, sandwiches and salads for lunch. The prices were a bit too high though.
Everything at Devil's Thumb Ranch is always done to perfection. And every employee you encounter is helpful and friendly.
As expected. Warm greeting, table set and waiting, great atmosphere and good food!
We went with two couples and had a blast. Amazing amazing place so beautiful inside and out. Food was incredible going back many many more times. Wine and service was great!!!! 10+

We had breakfast and dinner at Heck's. The breakfast menu and pricing were very good, with excellent and plentiful servings, and great service. The dinner menu seemed very limited and we're not sure if we would eat there if staying for two nights.
Been there many times before. The new chef removed the Hecks Burger (which was delicious) with a $19 burger that was not as good as Wendy's. One in our party had the waygu burger the other the buffalo burger. Both were so lame, it was embarrassing. The help knew it too. I'll never understand why restaurants constantly remove popular items when someone new wants to put their signature on a new menu.
We love this place! Very good food, excellent service, fantastic place tucked away in the mountains.
I usually love Heck's. We live in Boulder, and have a place in Frasier. We brought friends for their first time visit to Breakfast. No one was impressed with their selections. That was disappointing, as I want to continue to visit. My French toast was good though. I think everyone else felt their entrees were not satisfying and overpriced. Also, we made a reservation for 6, and no one was hardly in the restaurant at 10 a.m. on Sunday. We were given a table for our party size, but it had no views and no fireplace view. I asked for another location to give our friends the full experience, and was declined. I'm all about ambiance. Disappointing that we were not more graciously accommodated, given the abundance of tables available. It was as though no one really cared.
Beautiful. The food and service were stellar, but this space is absolutely beautiful!
Everyone’s burgers were way under-cooked, 1 guy sent his back (maybe twice). One gluten-free order was mixed up so they re-cooked the whole meal which took almost 30 min. We’ve eaten at Heck’s quite a few times. They have scaled back their menu this year & made it more like bar food where there used to be some wonderful specials & lots of options.
Wonderful food. Small but interesting menu with great cocktails, nice ambience at lunch too in a Great Room with a 3 story fireplace. Great for apres ski too!
Definitely not as good as prior years. Food was average and had little flavor. Kid’s meals and desserts were great. Even the vibe and lighting in the dining area was off/ different.
Great food, great atmosphere and incredible setting. Lunch and dinner were both delicious!
Hexagonal Fireplace restaurant that serves up raw chicken and $9 beers.
When I pointed out the issue with my chicken to my server, he whisked my plate away to the kitchen, where they warmed it up a bit (in the microwave?) and sent it back to me. I feel lucky I didn't get sick from eating several bites of underdone bird - it was camouflaged in a dark sauce applied when plated. The entree certainly should have been comp'ed, but no such offer was made. And when you can purchase a 6-pack of a good craft beer in a store for the price of a single glass at restaurant, something is our of whack with that restaurant.
Value of the flat iron steak was poor, no flavor and better similar dinner at Brick house 4o a few miles away. The menu said a pair of crab cakes, really a oair means two. Not one, very misleading!!
Signature chicken soup, Wedge and Tuscan greens salads all delicious. And great, cheerful services. Took our German friend there for a Colorado Western experience and the bison burger.
Wedge salad was good. Chicken was good and hubby's burger was good. Breakfast was just OK .Fruit bowl was lifeless and there was no cream cheese for my bagel.
Very limited menu. Food was good. Service was excellent even though it was very crowded.
One of the best places to have dinner in the Winter Park area and surprisingly good value. Will definitely return.
The staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was very good as well.
The food just isn't great here. We eat wild rice at home all of the time but none of us ate it here it was way too crunchy. There was too much sauce or salad dressing on everything. It's just a disappointment that they can't be better the other restaurant is amazing!
The service was great, large selection of draft beers made many in our group happy, and a lovely bottle of Pinot Noir capped off a good meal!
Great service! Had a nice table by the window. Food and wine was excellent.
Delicious cheese board, fabulous drinks, wonderful setting.
