   Food and service are good. But you could smell the grill from the kitchen at your tables through out the restaurant. They need a better exhaust and air system.

   Food was very bland and uninspired. Brussel sprouts were watery and flavorless. Slaw/salad with black cod also plain, lacking flavor. “ black sesame rice” was plain white rice with a few black sesame seeds sprinkled on top. Highlight of the meal was the endive salad which was delicious. Given the restaurant’s reputation, we were both surprised and disappointed.

   The food was good, nothing special but tasty. We were just in Sf for two nights, so kind of a wasted opportunity when there are so many great restaurants.

   Maybe it was an off night? Nothing was particularly good-4 of us, different salads and entrees. All pretty dissapointing. We all commented "we can make it better at home". Steak very tough and uninteresting. We've been many times before but not recently-not likely to go back.

   My mom and I arrived there for dinner a little late, but they kept our table when my mom went to the bathroom. They took her plate and put it in the kitchen to keep it warm.! Very impressive! We had the black cod which was absolutely amazing and they got us out on time to go to the ballet. Would definitely go back!

   As always, dishes were delicious, especially the oyster entree. Paella also very good. Warm goat cheese salad was excellent. Our waiter could not have been nicer. Excellent pre-Symphony or Ballet spot, if you can get in!

    Hayes Street Grill has been known as a top-rated seafood restaurant for more than at least the thirty years we've been going. They have it perfected: plenty of staff, all well skilled and attentive, the very best seafood, often prepared simply, and light, delicious desserts.
