Enjoyed a quiet evening and a wonderful dinner. French onion soup was a good as it had been billed. We had one lamb entree which was delightful with a minty sauce. The other entree was the diver scallops which sat in a bed of lobster bisque. Scallops were perfectly cooked and the bisque was divine. Certainly best meal we had in Steamboat. Two different groups of locals were celebrating birthdays so it is obviously well known to the locals crowd.
While there was nothing really wrong with the meal, the reputation had led us to expect something really exciting. Instead everything was just good, but not great. Getting a cocktail with Mike at the bar is definitely the highlight.
Always a good time at Carl’s. We took the grandkids last year and they chowed down like there was no tomorrow. This year, our meal was a generous serving, served quickly and hot by a friendly server. One of these days I’ll have to figure out a way to cram one of those ginormous burgers in my face.
Great place all around for a nice dinner. Food is terrific, wine list is gigantic and ambience is very nice
The food was wonderfully creative, the ambience more big city chic than little Western ski and cowtown , the waiters -- and owner -- were attentive and personable, the cocktails perfection...On the whole, the two evenings in a row (yes, it was that good that we cancelled another reservation to repeat at Harwig's) could not have been better. They should do a cookbook.
Harwigs is one of our favorite restaurants in Steamboat. This year's presentation is tending more toward nouvelle cuisine, but of a sufficient quantity and a wonderful quality. The pate appetizer was among the best we have ever had here, throughout the Americas and in Europe. The wine list is the most extensive in town. Ask Mike or Mauritzio (sp?) to chose for you and you will not be disappointed. We now live in Steamboat and have been going back to Harwigs for over twenty years, at any time that we are looking for an exquisite dinner.
The food was good but overpriced for what you get. The service was very good but it took a long time to receive the main course after the appetizers.
Best oysters in town! Service, food, and ambiance is always excellent. Perfect for every occasion.
Really outstanding experience. Didn’t expect to visit a place on our ski vacation that is reminiscent of the nicer establishments we dine when in NYC, Chicago and SF.
From the start, the reception was warm. Literally and the experience. Walked in out of the freezing night to a warm hostess greeting followed by the hanging of our coats. We were let to our table for two in a full dining room yet felt we were at an intimate dinner. Love when a crowded restaurant can make each table experience feel cozy.
We started by ordering a bottle of wine...with some wonderful assistance from the Sommelier. We chose a left bank Bordeaux which was wonderful.
We went a bit crazy with the food but couldn’t resist some of the nights specials...and had already settled on the face we were going to order their infamous French Onion Soup.
We split the special baked oysters appetizer which was nice. We also split the seared foie gras appetizer which was outstanding. The French onion soup was truly delish. Perfectly toasted/ melted cheese over a yummy bowl of mild onion and delicious broth. We both ordered the crispy duck entree and loved every single bit of it. The duck itself was a perfectly cooked breast with crispy skin, sliced over a mix of root veggies - sweet potatoes, Brussels sprouts, etc. - all perfectly cooked.
We would return in a heartbeat and may just do so before the end of this trip. Yum!
Fabulous ambiance and superb food
Consistently excellent. Have been coming here for years - Harwig’s never disappoints.
Really lovely evening here. Great cocktails - excellent food and wine. We look forward to going back!
Great meal again
Perfect Christmas Eve dinner experience! We dined at many great restaurants while in Steamboat during a week-long ski trip and we had the best experience at Harwigs. Their attention to detail is unmatched in the area from the service to the wonderfully creative courses. Chad took care of us during the evening with attentiveness and knowledge about the menu and history of the restaurant. Many thanks for his recommendations and good conversation throughout the evening. The cuisine is fantastic with interesting creations from start to finish. We even met Jamie Jenny, the owner, when my teenage son ordered lobster. Jamie stopped by to talk with my son about shelling a lobster to the surprise of all of us. We really enjoyed talking with Jamie who made us feel right at home while we shelled lobster and learned about the history of the restaurant. I'm sure my son will never forget the experience and still enjoys talking about it with his friends. Thanks to all at Harwigs for providing a complete dining experience and unmatched attention to detail in all they do. We will never forget and can't wait to return!
Harwigs has always been our favorite spot to enjoy ourselves with locals while savoring fine food and the best martinis anywhere.
We had fantastic service and excellent food. Our server made us feel very welcome and accommodated my daughter and I sharing dishes. The bartender came up with a unique mocktail and the table next to us inquired what it was. My daughter felt very special!
Great food, great wine and cocktails and great people!
This places has been a favorite for years, The quality of the food and service is hard to match.
Harwigs never disappoints, just an amazing group of folks, food and wine
We went on Thai night and the food was exceptional and the cocktails were plentiful!
While the menu was a little bit limited for our kids, our waiter was great at working with us to get some options on the table that worked for their tastes. Past that, our meals were quite nice, and everything went well.
We chose Harwigs for the famous Thai night for my boyfriend's birthday dinner. As always, the service was phenomenal, drinks were creative and delicious and the food was spot on. We had a wonderful night celebrating!
Chris and Mike did an outstanding job with our dining experience!
Excellent, very nice service, food was terrific, nice environment
Excellent food prepared with creativity. Service, ambiance and wine list also excellent. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for - great for a special occasion.
We came here for the first meal on our honeymoon. The food was fresh, thoughtful and well put together. Our server, Mauricio, was knowledgeable and made wonderful recommendations. Mauricio was professional and provided excellent service.
The building is beautiful and we will certainly be back.
Harwig’s never disappoints whether for drinks and apps in the bar, a fine dinner or Tuesday Thai night! The management and the wait staff and the bartenders are all very professional, friendly and top notch!
The restaurant was everything we had hoped for! Delicious food and our waiter ,Chris, was excellent in every way. We will definitely return!
Great food and really nice restaurant.
Recommended by good friends. Great dinner. Great wine!
Blue Snapper and the Lamb were great but the portions were way too small for the cost. We were looking forward to the Date appetizer but the waitress forgot to give them to us. Luckily she didn’t charge us. The restaurant was very empty on a Thursday evening so we don’t know if they’ll be in business next season.
Very disappointing experience. We picked out Harwig's for our 32nd wedding anniversary dinner while we vacationed in Steamboat Springs. We made the reservation at about 2:00 PM today. The restsursnt called us to confirm we were coming. We said we'd be there.
We arrived on time for our 6:00 PM reservation. A walk in couple was ahead of us. The hostess gave us a nice window table. So far so good. The walk in couple was seated close by next to us. Nice people. As we were deciding on appetizers and looking over the menu we and the other couple received water. The person who brought it did not greet us or say our server would soon come by.
When the server arrived she greeted the other couple and took a drink order. We were ignored. The server then brought drinks to the other table and continued to ignored us. The other gentleman actually told her "these people need service." The server didn't apologize or welcome us. We mentioned that we had a reservation and had not received any service. Did she apologize and ask what she could get us? No; she said "I can only wait on one table at a time."
That was enough. We got up and walked out. We called the restaurant and told them what happened and to please cancel our reservation so we could make another one on Open Table (they never did cancel our reservation). The person who answered asked if we would like to come back because "that table is open." She also asked if there was anything they could do. It would not have been a good experience for us to go back.
Besides, we already made a reservation at Table 79 where we had a wonderful dinner. Jeff the general manager was attentive and bought us dessert. Our server Victoria, a nice young woman from Macedonia, could not have been better. The food and atmosphere were first rate. Glad we found Table 79.
Before we arrived at Harwig's I read several other comments which said the service was poor. Perhaps that should have tipped us off but we gave them a chance. They failed.
Tiny fish filet. I thought it was an appetizer!
We decided to try Harwigs Thai Tuesday dinner for the first time. Our overall experience was excellent to very good except for the $46 whole-fish Snapper dinner that was described as for 2 people and was highly recommended by our waiter. It was a very small fish that would barely feed one small female person. Every bite had a bone it. The vegetables that came with the Snapper dinner were not enough for 2 people. We complained about the Snapper dinner to our waiter and our complaint was not addressed.
We don't usually leave reviews, but Harwig's entrees are extremely overpriced. My husband ordered an 8oz filet, which came out looking like it was no more than 5-6ozs. It cost $63. My husband normally doesn't order filets, but it was the only steak on their very limited menu. My pork chop had very little flavor and the texture was tough. It was also very overpriced, considering the quality of the meat.
Great place, fresh and yummy.
Incredibly creative chef. Best wine menu anywhere.
Incredible as always! Great service, great food, great atmosphere.
Nothing special for the price
Was a delightful, delicious meal served with the utmost care. Would highly recommend!
