Very disappointed! First of all the room needs a major makeover—there is zero ambiance. The furniture looks old & not in a good way. The whole design is very strange. It was very cold but at least the waitress gave me a blanket. Mentioned on our bookiing that ijt’s our 30th anniversary and that we had our wedding there 30 yrs prior. Waitress mentioned our anniversary but not that it was a big one or that we were married there until we were ready to leave. Why wouldn’t she highlight that at the beginning. She didn’t have a lot of personality. We waited way too long for drinks (my husband finally had to ask if she could check on that). Strange she took my husbands order first (isn’t there kind of a protocol around that)? 2 of us ordered the prime rib (2 different portion sizes—sadly they gave my daughter’s boyfriend the small portion). Not enough au jus, especially since the mashed potatoes had ZERO SALT. The others had the filet. My daughter’s steak was ordered medium rare &came out medium well. She didn’t say anything because she didn’t want it to be a thing &have everyone else feeling like they had to wait to eat. While the pepper sauce was tasty there was not enough of it & my son said the first bite of his steak was a bit chewy which was a surprise being a filet. We ordered the creme brulee dessert (which was surprisingly bigger than expected but nothing special) and also ordered the dome cake, which was disappointing. The waitress could have told us that we would be getting a dome cake as a complimentary anniversary dessert &then we wouldn’t have ordered. She obviously just wanted to up the bill total so her tip was higher. Manager checked who everything was at our table but asked in a way that made us feel she didn’t want to know the truth-wasn’t sincere - no mention of our anniversary either.

The food was quite good but because I asked to accommodate my food allergy, there was a lot of confusion at the time of service; even though this was discussed when the Fairmont called to confirm our reservation. I received the exact same item for the first and second course, then it was rectified when a different second course was brought out. The seating for this event was very uncomfortable, we were so squeezed in so tight that we had no elbow room. Some people from the long table got up and actually sat at the open tables scattered around the patio behind us. The seating arrangements were also a little confusing at the beginning and quite a few attendees had trouble finding their seat initially. It would have been nice to have a staff member directing people to their seats. It was definitely an interesting event and it was nice to have an intro to each course by the Chef and the Wine Representative did a great job of introducing the wine served with each course. Based on the cost for the event, the lack of organization, and the extremely uncomfortable seating arrangements, we would not likely attend this or a similar event again.

We booked as a special treat for my mother and sisters for my Mom's 80th Birthday. It was absolutely perfect. the history and beauty of the Hotel, the absolute perfection of the food, and the waiter was so kind and professional. We all had a very memorable time and enjoyed every moment.

We were seated outside which was lovely. As starters we ordered the Harvest Salad which we were not a fan. No taste, except for the multiple lettuce types. For entrees we had the Alberta Trout and the Chicken. Both dishes were very delicious and we would order them again. No dessert though. The service was exceptional until we served our entrees. After that there was no service until we asked for our bill.

Ideal in every way. Our server was extremely pleasant and attentive and we did not feel rushed. The food was delicious. The experience eating outdoors on the terrace was very enjoyable and scenic.

Afternoon tea at the Fairmont Hotel McDonald Harvest Room is a very special, elegant, and upscale experience. Perfect for celebrating special occasions or to experience a leisurely afternoon of delectable bites and aromatic teas. Service felt a little rushed. We had a two hour booking from noon to 2pm, but we were handed the bill at 1:15pm. Our server also provided us with take away boxes even before that! On the other hand, our server did bring a surprise birthday treat for my sister-in-law as that is the occasion we were celebrating. Overall, this is a wonderful and very special experience in Edmonton. Just make sure to take your time and enjoy.

I felt that the manager was not firm enough on the non smoking issue with one of the patrons as he had to be told more than once that the patio was a non smoking area! The second hand smoke was extremely offensive for us right as we were receiving our entre's!
