Service was good. We had been there in the past and returned because of the Happy Hour prices. This past meal we found that the Happy Hour prices have now been increased. Also, some of the menu items we not available as the waitress advised that the restaurant was moving later that week.
What we did have was good, and the service was fine
hapa is always excellent. delicious food, quality service, not unreasonable prices
Food here was delicious as always; great for a much needed ramen fix. Where things fell down was our server. No checks on good quality and satisfaction, completely unaware of an empty water glass and no ideas around the location of a simple service item like toothpicks.
The Hapa Hour is in my top 5 of Calgary Happy Hours offered in the city. Starts at 5:30 ends at 8:00 good food, great drinks and fabulous prices! I cannot leave without having the Karrage and Ebi Mayo :) so so so good!
Happy Hour is GREAT!!!! Fabulous specials and delicious food! Karrage is on point!
This place has just been introduced me this month and so far I have gone 4 times with various groups of friends and EVERYONE raves about how good it is here! The Ebi Mayo, Karrage, Edamame, really anything on the menu is just done to perfection! Fabulous Gluten-Free menu too!
Hapa Hour is amazing and the service is always wonderful. Thank you for the great experience again!
Cleanliness is a big deal when it comes to restaurants. When you start to pay less attention to clean menus, glasses etc...then it becomes a domino effect and food care becomes a concern and uninviting.
The Miso Black Ramen was amazing, first ramen place that I would call it the "Toronto" level, rest of the items were fantastic. Loved the atmosphere, definitely would go again.
We had a great time enjoying the "Hapa Hour" which is a good deal. $5 drinks and a selection of Japanese favourites. Am definitely going back and bringing my friends!
Good food, great service! I wish I knew our server's name, he was amazing.
Looking for a dinner spot for a spontaneous date night last June 9th and found Hapa. Our server was very helpful and patient with all our requests. We had appys, sushi, and ramen. The black garlic ramen was amazing -- really rich and full of flavour. If you're here, order the matcha brulée! It is so creamy and sooooo good.
The food is amazing, in particular we enjoyed the Tuna Avacado salsa dip with plantain chips, and the Tomato risotto ishiyaki were a bit but
Lovely atmosphere, good food. Small portions but very tasty! I recommend the tuna avocado salsa dip!
Really nice atmosphere. Service was great and food was delicious
Great food, nice spin on classic dishes. Service is friendly and good. We tried many tapas and some of the ramen. All food was pretty good overall!
Definitely recommend going during happy hour. The Tataki is awesome and the shrimp with the mayo sauce was killer. I had the Ika which was cooked well but it needed a different sauce other than just mayo.
Great food and service!
Had Hapa Hour, all the items on the menu were tasty. Not your traditional Japanese in regards to sushi. The rolls were rolled loosely and fell apart. The ambiance had a night club ish feel, definitely not for family dinners. Two servers who were also the bartenders. The restaurant was pretty quiet yet we had to wait a bit for the table to get cleared of empty dishes and pay for our bill. Overall it would be a place to hang out, have tapas, and drink.. Not so much enjoy a dinner with your friends or family.
Came here for big taste and it was a big mistake. My friends and I had the chance to try most options in the big taste menu and even some things in their hapa hour menu.
The Wagyu Nigiri was impossible to eat!! My friend actually spat it out because it was cut so thick and had silver skin on it still. ALL our appetizers were equally chewy. Flavored were okay though, as was the carpaccio.
From the hapa hour menu, we ordered the chicken karage, tuna tartare and sushi. The chicken karage was well seasoned, juicy, crispy and flavorful. The tartare similarly was well seasoned, though it was a ridiculously small portion. The sushi was only okay, I'd say; it tasted a little fishy which fresh sushi shouldn't.
The mains were absolutely the worst part, however. My friends ordered the salmon and I ordered the pork. ALL our dishes came out incredibly over seasoned; they were so salty that they were almost impossible to eat. We did not manage to finish our food due to the sodium.
Dessert was absolutely a surprise, however. I had the matcha creme and my friends had the chiffon cake. Both were delicious, light and not overly sweet. It was a welcome change from the mains.
Overall, the food from the big taste menu was a big disappointment, but we reasoned that they do not typically prepare mains. That being said, the items on their hapa hour menu were fairly tasty, though small. I don't think I could justify paying full price for their hapa dishes, as a result.
Service was only okay. The hostess/waitress asked me to awkwardly wait at the doors for her to clean a table for us (although we had a reservation and there were other clean tables around). She also didn't check with us regularly or refill our waters often enough. She even tried to take away our food before we had finished eating and we had to wave her down to bring it back.
Food was very good and the service was quick over the lunch hour. Very flavorful.
Excellent food and manager's taste in music was also excellent
Love their ramen. Best in town!
We arrived in time for hapa hour which was a great deal. The food came quickly and was the perfect temperature. The items we picked were fresh and flavourful. The service was very friendly and our waiter spent just the right amount of time with us. I will go back soon
We loved everything about our evening out, thank you so much. We were the loud group in the restaurant, but felt welcome all the same. We're gonna come back for more Dake-Bombs
Great place for lunch; good food and the service was excellent!
HSPA Izakaya is, in my opinion, better than the trendy Goro and Gunn. Broth is rich, sushi is fresh and tasty - and all at a a reasonable price.
We had a lovely last meal before Christmas here... it was quite busy and out server was always on the move! Would have been nice to see an extra pair of hands to help with the rush, so we didn't have to wait so much. Everything else was absolutely amazing! The dessert (mochi) was unreal and the polenta fries to die for! Definitely would go back again.
Great food with nice price. Better than most of other Japanese places in Calgary.
Food is good but slow. Meals come out at different time for different people. Would be better if come out at the same times. Service is just ok.
The dishes were really tasty and surprisingly cheap considering how expensive the place looks. I recommend the beef tataki and selecting from the weekly ramen specials menu.
Clearly alot of work has been put into the experience of the restaurant. Really cool atmosphere too. Especially enjoyed the projector playing spirited away in the background.
Delicious food. Local beer. Gracious and efficient staff. The venue was trendy. I want to go back and order the entire "Hapa Hour" menu again!
We loved most of the recommended dishes this time and will return for others next time. Value for your dollar is totally worth it. The interior is spacious and modern. Will definitely return soon.
Lots of food entries and cocktails which are very good. Will be back again for sure to try more.
We had an amazing time at Hapa. The music is lively, the staff is fun and caring, the art is stylish and hip, and the over all experience is authentic yet trendy. I highly recommend one of the hot stone bowls, The seafood risotto was to die for. The drink hello kitty is a very fun cocktail. Great for a down town lunch or dinner!
Love the atmosphere and great happy hour!
Amazing food and great staff!! We celebrated 2 bdays and we got dessert on the house. Thank you for a great experience! Best ramen In Calgary and Hapa hour was great!
We enjoyed our dinner at Hapa Izakaya. We all had ramen and were very satisfied. The portions were just right, not too large. The noodles were not overcooked and the broth was tasty and rich. The price is very competitive since we did not have to get any extras. I had the Macha brûlée for dessert. Again the size was just right, the presentation excellent, and the taste was excellent as well. The staff was polite and friendly. The atmosphere is pleasant in dark tone but not gloomy. The music level was louder than would be appropriate in Japan but still kept below conversation level. I personally find TV screens a distraction in a restaurant but the volume was down so they were not too distracting. Overall I am glad we tried Hapa Izsakaya and will definitely come back to try some of their other dishes.
We had dinner and drinks on a Tuesday night here to take advantage of their "Hapa Hour" - the menu, once seated in the restaurant, was not the same as on the website (and yup, definitely was on the Hapa Calgary site) so that was disappointing as the prices where a couple dollars higher. We had the Wagyu bites, Gyoza, Karaage Chicken, and the Spicy Pork Rice Bowl. Everything was good and I enjoyed the mixing of Japanese flavours with more modern styled food. Only the house wine is included on the "Hapa Hour" (not very clear) but both the red and wine are passable for the $5/glass price. All in all we'll be back to try more of the menu.
The restaurant was fairly quiet so if you want vibrant (like the van city one), you need to go a little later in the evening!
