About this restaurant

Located in one of London’s hippest enclaves, Hanoi offers sizzling, fresh traditional Vietnamese food to a mixed crowd of local Hoxton hipsters. But the Hanoi Café is also just near enough to the City to attract an after work crowd. The décor is simple and bright it and lets the food speak for itself. The atmosphere is bustling and breezy.

Our waitress unfortunately didn't understand when I told her we had a reservation. The restaurant was completely full and a table had obviously not been reserved for us. She first of all told us to come back in half an hour and then instead kindly squeezed us on to a table right by the door. It was not her fault that she did not know we had a reservation and it was very good of her to fit us in, but it did feel that the restaurant didn't even have a reservation system in place and that we might as well not have bothered reserving a table in the first place.

I booked in advance but there really was no need for lunchtime. The place wasn't much to look at but the ambience was pleasant and the service was good and attentive. The food was great and was served quickly! Good selection and reasonable amount of vegetarian options too. Definitely worth a visit and would go back.

The food was delicious. I was pleased to see there wasn't too much choice (a huge menu is always a bad sign). I had the pho which was great. My friends had curries - also delicious. Only downside - the service wasn't very attentive. Took forever to bring us the bill and they didn't check up on us throughout the meal to see if we needed more drinks or anything. Really felt like we were fighting for the waiters attention which was disappointing because it wasn't very busy.

The starter - steamed rolls - was wonderful and we thought we'd be in for a real treat. The mains could not quite keep up: the prawns weren't fresh at all and the crispy duck was really dry with little meat to chew off the bones. The wines on the menu are not worth bothering, however the restaurant kindly let's you bring your own for a very fair 2.50 charge per person. Around the corner is a supermarket/off-license with some really good wines. Overall still good value though I'll be back to the neighboring Vietnamese places which seem slightly ahead.

Although it was pretty decent value for money the food was quite average standard fair...starters quite greasy. There are better (in terms of quality) Vietnamese in the area. Staff were superb, very efficient.

This is clearly a family run restaurant. The food is super fresh and yummy and prices are very economic.

Quite slow service as it looks like a small family unit. Quite an authentic menu but the food was great and the place had a lovely basic homely feel.

Volume for money. Very easy going and casual place reminding of me a canteen in Asia. They allow you to bring you own drinks so you can save £££. Food is good. That's all matters at this place.

Went to Hanoi cafe with friends a couple of weeks go. The interior is not fussy - it pretty much does what it says on the tin: it is a cafe but the food is really excellent, portions are very generous and prices very good. They do an especially good chicken noodle dish (which has a fancier name that I can’t now recall) – it is amazing!
