We went for a sunday brunch with our family. Everything was great, but a few more options for vegetarians would be great. Seem to have more drink choices than food choices. But it was great.
I went with my boyfriend for a Valentine's Day weekend getaway to Charlottesville and chose Hamiltons as our splurge night. For all the hype and extremely positive reviews I saw about Hamiltons, the entire experience was good but didn't live up to the hype. We wanted fried oysters but the restaurant didn't have them, so we ordered duck spring rolls instead. They were delicious, but rivaled in quality to what I could get at a good Chinese restaurant. The rockfish in a cioppino broth I chose for dinner was small for the price ($24) and the herb basted chicken breast, while juicy, didn't seem to warrant a $25 price tag either.
Great experience would return if the opportunity should arise
Salmon plate and chocolate raspberry sauce dessert were out of this world. We had the best waitress. I wish I remembered her name. She has an accent. We were so well attended! Hats off to the chef!
We absolutely loved our experience! We came to Hamilton’s at First & Main for a re-do of our Valentine’s Day date and had one of the best meals of our life! The ambiance was intimate, service was very accommodating and friendly, And the food was incredible. We had the Duck confit spring rolls, crab cakes, and the apple cheese cake and hazelnut creme brûlée. We still cannot stop raving about our visit!
Went for Valentine's Day dinner. We had a very attentive waitress, very knowledgeable about the menu
The food was absolutely amazing. Everything was perfectly cooked! We had a 4 course meal and it seemed like the food came one right after the other which was awesome to me. Great date spot. I'd highly recommend!
Hamilton's is an excellent choice for a special occasion dinner or just a night out. The fact that it's located on Charlottesviille's Downtown Mall gives it a special ambiance.
We came to eat here because of the high reviews for Charlottesville. Our first visit. The place is in a great downtown location, the atmosphere was nice, and the service was good. However, the BLT sandwiches my wife and I ordered disappointed us both. There was little bacon or other contents between the bread (maybe enough to fill half the sandwich), and it just wasn't tasty.
We enjoyed our dinner. The ambiance is very nice--clean, cozy, sophisticated. Our service was excellent. The Dark Horse cocktail and the chocolate many ways dessert were especially good. We had duck and a vegetarian entree, both were tasty. Portions are on the small side, and pricing is on the high side. We wish portions were a little bigger, but we also know that using fresh local ingredients isn't cheap. We will come back.
The food is delicious and the presentation is really nice. Service is good and very friendly. It can be loud if the restaurant is full, but is usually pretty good. The ambience of the restaurant is nice.
Weekday lunch for 4. Empty restaurant. Great food, fair service. Would love to come back when there are people there
While we iked the atmosphere the vegetarian blue plate special I got that night that wasn’t that good. The coins cous had the oddest flavor. My son got crab cakes though which he said were the best he ever had.
The one thing our table noticed was the attitude of our waiter. You could tell he didn’t want to be there and it was a little uncomfortable because you could feel his negative edge. You could just tell he forced himself to be somewhat congenial. My daughter picked up on it as well.
We also were seated right next to the door and it was so cold every time the door was opened.
Our request through OpenTable reservations for a quiet table for conversation was honored. The ambiance was perfect. Our waiter, David, was attentive, but not intrusive. And the food was outstanding. In particular, my vegetarian platter offered a variety of interesting flavors.
Great restaurant. Accommodated a (slightly) larger party than the reservation at the last minute and treated us with great customer service the whole time, from reservation to walking out the door. Great food, lovely interior, wonderful service. Highly recommend.
The food was amazing - innovative and delicious. We brought our 4 year old and the staff went out of their way to make it a good night for her, too
Great Restaurant Week menu. Comfortable ambience; cordial, knowledgeable staff. I look forward to dining there again.
A most enjoyable dinner with friends and a wonderful waitstaff. We were there for Restaurant Week and the choices were great. Appetizers, especially the fried oysters and the sweet potato chowder, and the main courses were delicious, as were the dessert selections.
We went for restaurant week - great experience. Wonderful oysters and a fantastic steak. Creative presentation and quality ingredients. Loved it!
Good food, imaginative creations. Excellent service.
Hamilton’s is always a favorite! Service is great and food is amazing. Bartender/manager pours the best martini in town. Highly recommend.
We drove 3 hours to meet friends for a birthday lunch. While the food was delicious the portions were very small . The wait staff was very professional and helpful. Sadly, even though mentioned when the reservation was made, there was no acknowledgement of the birthday. In light of the portion sizes we feel the pricing was too high.
All of the dishes were delicious. The butternut squash soup was a great starter; the duck breast could have been a little more done for my taste but the sauce and veggies were excellent. Good selection of wines by the glass.
Our first choice for restaurant week and was surprised at the creativity of the dishes. Menus in the past looked usual and a little pricey. Dishes that night were excellent.
We enjoyed the restaurant week dinners, especially the wonderful lamb sausage and fried oyster appetizers. Two complaints -- main dishes were not served hot and the chocolate lava dessert was over baked and dry.
It was Restaurant Week and service was inattentive...not uncommon with a full restaurant yet disappointing at a high end place. Forgot to bring our take home boxes. Appetizers: Chowder OK; sausage superb. Entrees: Steak terrific; salmon OK. Desserts: Rum cake was delicious. Sopapilla was dry and barely edible; thick breaded hunk with no resemblance to Mexican name.
I don't live in this area so I found Hamilton's online and by reviews. It was a little more upscale than I was expecting but the food and service were good. The Waygu Corned Beef is very good, I just wish they gave a slightly larger portion. Five of us were there for Sunday Brunch and everyone enjoyed their food. Overall a nice place to eat, we'd go back.
Our daughter recently moved to Charlottesville, VA. We wanted to take her and her boyfriend out for a nice dinner and relied on TripAdvisor for advice. It was beyond our expectations. The food and desert were outstanding . Our server David was also wonderful.
The restaurant was highly recommended on TripAdvisor so we reserved months in advance for a big number birthday for our mom as we were going to visit Charlottesville for the occasion. The food was very good-- nice twists on standards such as shrimp and grits (smokey tomato gave the dish a kick; grilled romaine and lovely plating created an unusual ceasar salad, for example). The service was friendly and knowledgeable but not as attentive as I would have liked. The restaurant wasn't full so perhaps they were understaffed staffed. Price for quality was good. I was disappointed that despite our attempts to alert the staff this was a big birthday celebration, nothing special was done-- no Happy Birthday from the waitress, no complimentary glass of champagne nor a dessert for birthday girl.
