Excellent food and service!
Perfect restaurant for conversation.
Consistently good food, great service and a nice apnosphere!
The food is always good at Hamiltons. The seared peach appetizer was wonderful as was the gazpacho. The crab cakes are my personal favorite and the death by chocolate delivers on its name
First time at Hamiltons' and loved it. The food was excellent as was the service too!! Sarah was very attentive and made excellent recommendations. It's wonderful to be with people who love what they do and it shows with Sarah. Highly recommend!!
We ate outside in the Downtown Mall seating area, so the noise wasn't nearly as loud as inside the restaurant. The food and the service were excellent.
Really great experience! Food was outstanding and beautifully presented. Staff was excellent.
Some creative menu options. Interesting salad with burrata, speck, arugula, and grilled peaches: sadly, the dish was marred by hard, underripe peaches. Very pleasant, professional waitress, but the restaurant was understaffed.
We dine out often, and this was a memorable meal. It was that good. Will definitely be back for a date night .
One of the best in CV!!!
the waiter was excellent-----helpful in selection, knowledgeable of dishes/ content, pleasant, responded quickly to requests....we had a small group who enjoyed visiting having not seen each other for awhile.....so we had lots of conversation waiter was not intrusive ...very respectful engaged comments at opportune times
he was also complimentary of the restaurant/food...which encouraged us to see we made the right choice in a place to celebrate a birthday.
Service and food were amazing. The calamari was one of the best I’ve ever had and the shrimp and grits was delicious. Cocktails were delicious also. Great location in the downtown mall.
Outdoor dining on the ‘mall’ was a treat. We each only had two courses, but each were excellent. Service outdoors can sometimes be sketchy- but not here. Very well done! The bar is nice too as a separate activity!
Not up to its standards of several years ago. Portions are smaller too.
My two crab cakes were about the size of silver dollars and perhaps 1" thick served over maybe 3 tablespoons of rice.
My wife's pork chop was slathered in a decent sauce, but this hid the chops large gristle area.
The Charcuterie Board is not what it once was
Service was very nice, friendly and professional.
Our server was wonderful, informative, and very personable! She met all our requests and did so with a smile! 5 stars!
Here for lunch to celebrate my birthday! Everything was perfect! Sat at a nice quiet booth - order was taken promptly - specials explained. I had the crab cake and my husband the fish of the day - mahi mahi. Both were exceptional! The bread that came with the meal was warm and good. This is my favorite restaurant on the downtown mall! Enjoy!
Hamiltons doesn't disappoint, ever! Perfect for a special occasion or just a wonderful dinner with friends.
My husband and I ate here while on vacation it he Charlottesville area and were not disappointed.
As a 40 year vegetarian I am always delighted to find something on the menu that doesn't involve pasta.
I had the Vegetarian Blue Plate Special which consisted of tofu with a delicious sesame-ginger sauce (I reserve tofu as a treat since I prefer fermented soy) a quinoa salad, a corn salad, charred broccoli with a touch of cumin and sauteed summer squash and zucchini. All were cooked to perfection and seasoned well with the exception of the quinoa which could have cooked another minute. (But not a 'deal-breaker'!)
I was most intrigued by the offering of chicken from Polyface Farms which I have read about and am a big fan of its owner, Joel Salatin, organic farmer turned activist. Hubby loved the chicken, well marinated served with fried green tomatoes and Maque Choux, both characteristic of Southern cuisine. The weather was gorgeous so we elected to sit outside and the Downtown Mall provided pletny of people watching along with a local who serenaded the crowds with music that sounded like he make it up as he went along!
All in all a wonderful dining experience.
We went to Charlottesville VA to celebrate our anniversary and we loved all the places we went. I was able to review the local website and found this location was known for brunches. Therefore, that is why we went. The review was correct. We found it to be quite lovely and the food was delicious.
Our server was excellent, very attentive and friendly.
One of the great things about Hamiltons' is their consistency in quality and taste of food, service and ambiance. You can eat inside or outside - both are wonderful. This time their halibut was simply amazing - perfectly cooked and sitting on a pea/mint "hummus" that was ideal for a summer evening. Our granddaughter's boyfriend declared his meal "the best pork chop (he had) ever eaten. Their food is not cheap, but this is Charlottesville, and you will definitely enjoy your meal and time there.
We were traveling from PA and got caught in traffic. I called to change our reservation and the staff was very accommodating. When we arrived, we were seated promptly. The service was great, the food was delicious, and we enjoyed our experience very much.
We stopped at Hamilton's while dropping a child off at U.Va. based on Yelp and TripAdvisor reviews. The food was even better than the reviews! Hamilton's uses farm-fresh food and prepares it exceptionally well. Some of the best food my family has eaten anywhere.
We always enjoy dining here, but the last couple of times have been fabulous. Nothing short of perfect. Our server was very nice and had great recommendations for wine and drinks with our dinner, and the food was fantastic. Can’t say enough good things!
Always a great meal at Hamilton’s.
Interesting use of fresh ingredients and presentation. Great Virginia wine.
We had birthday brunch and it was delish. Biscuits were to die for and the service was great. We brought 4 kids and they had plenty of kid friendly options even though there was no kids menu. Our server was fantastic!
Food was very good, server was very nice but slow.
We were there for an early (6 p.m.) dinner on a Saturday night. Restaurant was quiet and the food was excellent. We loved the decor - particularly the blue glass that set off the understated colors of the walls beautifully. We sat in a comfortable booth, but outside seating was available as well as seating at the bar. If we are ever in Charlottesville again, we would definitely return
We enjoyed dining at Hamilton's while spending the weekend in Charlottesville. The atmosphere was charming and quiet enough to totally enjoy conversation during dinner. Our server was knowledgeable, friendly and very attentive. The salads were quite good as was the ribeye steak offered for the evening and the shrimp and grits. Our table for two was quite small and up against a wall (one of us facing the wall with no view at all) and that is the only thing that took away from a stellar evening. When we return, we would most definitely ask for a better table location. Worth a visit for sure !
Always a great meal here! My husband particularly appreciates the wine pairings recommended with his food. Thank you!
I've been dining at Hamiltons' since it opened. It's my go-to spot for entertaining out of town guests or business associates. They always enjoy the locally sourced entrees.
Wonderful cocktail - best Sazerac I've had in many years, and a generous pour, to boot. Food was extremely tasty. Had the shrimp and grits. Superb sauce, perfect grits, and although tasty and very good sized, the shrimp seemed just a touch overcooked (a bit rubbery for my tastes). Still, did not detract from an excellent meal. Service very responsive. Hamilton's can get fairly loud inside, due to the shape of the restaurant - somewhat narrow with high ceilings, but it was less so the night we ate.
We've been to Hamilton's many times but had not been in awhile. It still lives up to our expectations of a good meal in a nicely decorated & maintained restaurant on Charlottesville's mall. My wife had the octopus with olives & peanuts as an entree (usually served as an appetizer) and it was quite good. I had the fettuccine, which was also excellent. Our drinks & desserts were very good as well. As always, service was attentive but not intrusive. We highly recommend this restaurant.
As always, the food and service were excellent. We were celebrating a birthday with a friend, and unfortunately, didn't give enough notice for a birthday cake. However, the desserts were outstanding. Consistent quality every time we've been there.
Outstanding crab cakes (and I am from Maryland) wonderful Caesar salad with from scratch dressing.
Excellent food and service. Good atmosphere too. Highly recommend it for any occasion.
We were out of towers unfamiliar with the area....were pleased to find this gem.
Wonderful experience! One of the best dining experiences ever. The food was so flavorful!
Usual good experience but no escaping the cold blast of air conditioning in booths along wall. Will ask for inner table next time.
Took out of town friends to Hamilton's for an authentic Charlottesville experience. Our server was excellent, friendly and genuine, knew a lot about the food, attentive but not hovering. The vegetarian "Blue Plate Special" was indeed special. Mushroom cake was particularly good. Vibrant flavors. I didn't feel left out amount the meat-eaters at the table. I'm told the fish was also excellent. The Margarita was unusual and flavorful. Music was lovely but otherwise the noise level made it challenging to hear one another. Overall a memorial dining experience! Thanks, Hamilton's!
We have always been very happy with our experiences at Hamiltons. This experience was no different. The food was very well prepared and seasoned to suit everyone. The use of local and fresh was appreciated.
Our server was exceptional with her knowledge and attention to our table.
