Hakkasan - San Francisco

The Asian female waitress wasn’t great. She kept trying (very annoyingly and persistently) to upsell us more food than we need. Cold personality too.
My reservation was not ready, as I arrived a little before time . And on despite of having several empty tables they sit you at the bar. After one hour been there, they totally forget about our table. I had to complain in order to be seated. Food takes too long to arrive. Just not a good experience at all.
Good ambiance. Food came quickly and it was great! The only slight annoyance was we asked for a corner seat from the beginning, the couple that sat next to us came later, and asked the same thing and they got the corner table. Could be because one of the corner tables just opened up right before but it was just a bit annoying they couldn't accommodate.
Hakkasan lunch might be my favorite meal because: dim sum. Their char siu bao is proof that the world loves you. Also: great lettuce cups.
Always a great choice
Shortly after I ate the shrimps with walnuts, I felt sick, with very bad cramps. I didn’t want to say anything as we were celebrating our post parade and birthdays, but I was very sick fir the rest of the night... Please check for contamination in food, particularly shrimps. Thanks!

Bartender at the bar gave us attitude. Extremely unhappy with the service.
Overall good for food.
Absolutely amazing food paired with excellent service.
Food and service was good. Sat next to noisy children. Took away from overall experience.
Food taste great, service is a little lacking for the price of food.
We’ve dined at Hakkasan many times and the food is typical very good but tonight it was exceptionally good!
The food was outstanding and really good. The front door people were amazing. I came in and drop some flower off with the front host and asked if they can present it on the table before we got there they did amazing. Though what killed the experience for my significant others birthday was the service we received from the server Tommy. We read the menu and asked more questions about the menu and he gave an attitude and said we need to read the menu. Kinda wasn’t cool maybe he isn’t having a good day. We ordered our food at the end of the entree we sat there for about 25 min with dirty plates in front of us waiting for our server. Never really showed up until we made some noise and called him over. We ordered desserts when we finished that we again waited 25 min with dirty plates in front of us until he got to us and cleared the plates. Felt like we was forgotten. While watching the ladies next to us got optimal service, table cleared in a reasonable time. The four of us all work the service industry and had some great concerns with the service. But the food was amazing. Just Tommy the server wasn’t.
Best service in town!
Service awesome! Food different and interesting tastes and flavors. Atmosphere pleasant.
Will return for another experience!!!!
The food is great and reasonably priced by SF standards. Also beautiful ambience. The service here was a shame - perhaps inexperienced. The waiter wasn’t outright rude but totally inattentive and we had to flag him down using other staff. Even after being told by another waiter that we wanted service, our waiter went to check on another table before coming by. This was hard to watch and not take personally.
Although he seemed to do this to other select tables as well because we also saw another party in our area get fed up and leave before ordering out of frustration of being ignored.
Hostess and check in staff were warm and friendly so perhaps morale with the wait staff here is just low. Unfortunate as it ruined the dining experience which otherwise was solid.
Great menu and execution, fantastic wines by the glass selections.
Good food and great service. First time in SF but we have been to the one in Miami.
Excellent food and service. Very helpful sommelier.
Lovely dinner, beautiful setting, and the food is outstanding.
Delicious! Everything we ordered was lovely—Hakka noodles had a nice taste. The cod, beef, dim sum all very good. Dan Dan noodles were like regular chow mien and not what I expected as it deviated quite a lot from the traditional dish I’ve had in Taiwan so would not order that again for that reason. Cocktails also great. Thank you.
Service was incredible and the food was fantastic. Little pricey, but in this case the excellent service made up for the price.
Great food !
Food is beautifully done, unique tastes, something that I can not duplicate. It’s an experience.
Beautiful evening with friends, outstanding family, service ambiance. The wine paring was excellent.
Great experience in celebrating two birthdays.
Excellent food and great service- 5 stars
Perfection as always. Food was delicious. Service is always on point.
This is the fifth or sixth time that I have eaten at Hakkasan. The food is always excellent, but this time the cost of the lunch for two without alcohol or tip was $176! That was excessive for what we ate. I have recommended the restaurant to many people, but will not do so in the future.
I've reviewed Hakkasan several times here over the years. Food is consistently very good. However more often than not, the service is not in the same league as the food. We spent $200 a head for a party of 7...yes there were several bottles of champagne and more than one round of cocktails involved...and when you spend that much you kind of expect the service to be top notch. Again this time, it was not.
For the most part our waiter was very attentive and took good care of us. The bigger issues appeared to be the kitchen's fault this time. Several of us didn't have our entrees until the others were almost finished eating. And worse, one person had to ask for his side of rice several times. He was over halfway through eating his fish entree before the rice showed up. That's just nonsense for a restaurant of this supposed caliber.
Another disappointment was several of my favorite items have been removed from the menu. The vegetarian fake chicken dish is gone, so I got the vegetarian ma po tofu instead. It is alright, but a pretty basic rendition of the dish and nothing special. Also the fabulous macarons have disappeared. So as a vegetarian I was disappointed in the reduced options. Other restaurants are adding vegetarian and vegan options as plant based popularity increases. Sad to see Hakkasan going the other way.
The receptionists weren’t friendly nor efficient. Booked a table for 3 a week ahead and was given a lousy table. Asked for a new table and was curtly declined. There were so many empty tables in other sections but the receptionists just weren’t willing to work with us. The room was cold so had to keep our coats on. The food got cold very quickly. This was my 5th time there and probably my last. We had 5 dishes for three people and we left somewhat unfulfilled. The wait staff was pretty good though.
Peking duck with black bean sauce was incredible. Everything we ate exceeded expectations...
Definitely be back, the halibut was cooked to perfection.
Great food and ambience. A few more options on menu would have made it absolutely perfect.
My husband and I came here for our 2014 NYE dinner and had a fantastic time, this year we decided to return for our 2020 NYE dinner and was tremendously disappointed.
The price we paid were very similar. The difference was that we paid ~$100 less 6 years ago, but had 2 wine pairings along with our meal, while this year we only got a low-mid price bottle of wine and no wine pairings.
The differences in experience is HUGE:
- There were no holiday/ NYE decoration and vibe. Entrance was not decorated (it was FILLED with balloons a few years ago), and we weren't given fun party treats to celebrate with anymore. No confetti, fun hats, nothing. Huge disappointment.
- The food was mediocre. We expected great, we got just ok. Food were brought out "family style" for our table of 2, not as individual dish for each of us. It didn't feel as lux and nice, and the food was very ok. The meal is broken down to 3 parts: starters with ~4 types of dimsum - these were the best part of the meal imo, main course "family style" including halibut, kobe steak that was cut very large and they didn't provide a knife (wasn't sure how we can eat them), bokchoy and mushroom, and a mediocre stir fry noodle plate. The presentation was ok, not super nice but wasn't bad, and lastly a white chocolate dessert that was too sweet and too large. We couldn't finish the desert since it was way too sweet, not delicate at all.
- Service was ok - Some food came out with no description, my husband had to ask the waiter to "explain what we're eating." It was rather funny.
- Ambiance was sad. We had a 9pm reservation to pump us up for the countdown. 6 years ago it was poppin' with music, all the tables were full and everyone was fun and happy. This year, our dining room was mostly empty, quiet, no holiday music - really killed our mood.
All in all, our experience was bad. everything felt underbudget. We don't recommend and won't be returning.
New Year’s Eve dinner. Expensive but not special. No festive mood. No count down.
I was really disappointed in the food. It was cold and some of it was bland. I spent $600 on 2 people and it was among the most underwhelming meals I’ve ever had.
I read a lot of reviews for somewhere upscale for vegan food in SF on NYE. I made the reservation here due to the sufficient vegan options. I even called to make sure they’d be available. Upon arriving there was a prefixed menu for the night that had no vegan options and was outrageously expensive. Since it was NYE we had no other plans or place to go. Very disappointed with the last minute change of menu and no notice
Booked for 2 for new years eve. Was a set menu which was 160 dollars each. The food on offer was unpleasant and boring. We asked too even share one menu between us but were told it wasnt allowed. It was nothing more than an attempt to take the maximum amount of money from guests with the minimum effort. Would never return.
I definitely do not recommend the new year's eve fixed menu dinner!
The meat was disgusting and the fish inedible. The chicken for the kids was uncooked and the duck had a smell. We’ve been to two other Hakkasans in NYC and London and this was subpar
