My wife and I invited some friends out to dinner and wanted to try a restaurant that we hadn't been to before. We decided on Grove Hill in Chagrin Falls and we were all glad we did. We started out the evening with cocktails. Our friends had the Portabello mushroom soup which they thought was excellent. My wife and I did not have appetizers wanting to save ourselves for the main course. My wife and friend had the short ribs which they both said was phenomenal. My friend's wife had a small plate of the rare tuna, which she said was fantastic. I had the sweet potato gnocchi and it was the best gnocchi I ever had by far. The dish was layered with different flavors and textures. It was a delight.
Our waiter was named Daniel and he took extremely good care of us, looking after our every need, and making sure the food was prepared correctly. He checked with us often to see if we needed anything but not obtrusive. He provided excellent service for our dining experience.
We can't wait to go back there and try some of the other interesting dishes they have on the menu. I would highly recommend Grove Hill.
Apps were good. We had the ahi tuna and ribs. Salmon for dinner was way over cooked and dry. We sat for 20 min for iced tea and another 25 min before we were approached to take order. We didn't receive food until 45 min after arrival. We will never go back. The place is loud and tables positioned to not provide a relaxing atmosphere.
Dinner with a friend.
The creativeness of Chef Tim Bando comes through on all menu selections. So many difficult decisions when choosing from the Groove Hill menu. I would like to order one of everything! Even the bread is exceptional!
Food and service were amazing! Can't wait to go bacl
Best short rib I have eaten. Everyone in our party loved their food.
Grove hill was excellent with a great selection of dinners and great service.... fairly priced wine list with a few gems.
I was here on a date with my husband. We sat at a two-top table in the bar which is my favorite place to sit when I am at Grove Hill. It's fun and lively and has great character! I ordered the phenomenal arugula salad with shaved mushrooms, fennel and Parmesan to start and it was so delicious! and then I had the seared scallops which were to die for! My husband had the baby spinach and cured duck breast salad and he loved it! He had the chicken livers for his meal and ate every bite! We love Grove Hill! Always a perfect meal!
This was our second meal at Grove Hill and we were pleased with the service and variety of items on the menu. Everything arrived in a timely manner and was delicious!
Despite having a reservation and a number of empty tables in the dining room, we were seated at a table next to the bar - the music and bar patrons were rather loud, not really what we were expecting. While our server was initially attentive, he eventually found some friends at the bar and talked to them the majority of the time. Having our bread all but tossed at our table by a passing busboy didn't help either. The food was ok but not enough to warrant a return visit.
We had a wonderful experience. Great service, quaint restaurant with charm and great food. We tried it all- a mix of small plates and two large entrees for a party of four. Nice portion sizes- make sure to try the ribs and lamb shank, delicious. We liked the Apple tart and Creme brûlée for dessert. Great find!
Second time here and absolutely love it! Brought our friends from DC and they raved about it!
I am sorry to say, the food was just ok. I ordered an artichoke. It was under cooked and inedible. The rest of our food was ok. The service was terrible. Forgotten drink orders, extremely slow food delivery and forget food items. I spoke to the manager and asked if they had some call offs that evening. He admitted that he underestimated the amount of traffic he would receive that evening. By the way, it's Christmas time. He told him he probably won't have that problem in the future.
The beef rib special was excellent, indeed all of our party loved the food. Service was attentive but not intrusive and the snow meant for a quiet evening.
Waitress promoted pork chop as "2 time voted best in Cleve." Said chef prepares medium. I asked for medium toward medium rare. Came out well done. Sent back and next one was raw. Found out kitchen was serving party for 40. So I guess regular customers are less important. Manager was great. Asked if they could prepare something else but everyone I was with were finished eating. Told manager I would look at menu and decide. As I was looking at menu to order something else to take home, raw pork chop was returned. This time it went from raw to rare. Showed manager and just asked to box it up. Yes, we did receive 2 free desserts. Make sure to go when no parties are scheduled.
I have nothing bad to say about this restaurant. Every time I have gone there food and service are by far the best. The desserts are made fresh every morning and they are just to die for! This has become my new favorite go to restaurant.
We visited Grove Hill for our staff holiday dinner. Service and the food was great! Great variety on the menu as well. We had a great meal and great time!
I love this place... I miss the brunch they used to have but we still get our fix for dinner. Our waiter was on point after the large party that was seated in the middle of the room left. It was an odd place for a large party to be seated and the only distraction that left us feeling a little less taken care of than usual. Everything else was wonderful. We will make sure to check for parties next time!!
Interesting menu, good food and a great server with loads of personality and knowledge of the food
We went with another couple and ordered two appetizers along with our main courses. The appetizers were very and the service was good and attentive. Two of us ordered pasta and two ordered scallops for the main course. The pasta was excellent, but unfortunately, the scallops were very salty and served in a cream sauce that wasn't expected. Recommend passing on the scallops and staying with other dishes.
Consistent delicious dishes and friendly attentive service. Love the small plates so we can try a variety of menu items.
We had another GREAT dinner at Grove Hill. Fabulous food!!!!!
Reservations are never honored on time (fourth time) and the service was again extremely slow.
The best part of the evening was the music in the bar area; excellent music and fun bar scene.
Service was really, really slow. They clearly did not have enough staff on hand. Food was average - nothing special and not worth the wait or the prices. They look like they are trying to be a high end restaurant but the place has the feel of a chain restaurant - paper tablecloth (what is this - Macaroni Grill), laminated menus.
We were pretty disappointed on this particular night. Our food was good, but the service was ridiculously slow. We arrived for dinner at 7:15 and didn't get up to leave until nearly 9:30. I very much hope our experience is not a sign of distress in what has been a really nice spot.
Dinner was delicious! chopped salad was big enough for sharing. Gumbo had just enough spice, tender meat and tasty shrimp. Steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare and fries were crispy. Loved the warm apple cocktail!
We always have a very good dining experience at Grove Hill. This time was no exception. In particular, the service was outstanding. Very attentive and knowledgeable.
This little secret in Chagrin Falls is a pot of gold. After paying over $ 200.00 in multiple restaurants ( Prime Rib in Washington DC , The Rooast in Detroit, Flemings in Boston and David Burke Steak House in Chicago; all boasting and being complimented for their steaks, Grove Hill rivals them all for around a quarter of the price.
My wife and I had the Texas Steak. Sizzling hot upon arrival, it satisfied the first test. It was tender and moist and cleverly spiced with an array of mild but not overbearing spices which complimented the natural taste of the meat.
Man and woman cannot live on steak alone! Let there be mushrooms and onions sautéed to devine perfection. The chef's secret sauce hints at a marinade similar to an Asian/Mediterranean blend.
Filling out the plate is a mini-mountain of scrumptious heat-holding fries. Oh what a treat! Yum!
Nothing special but nothing bad. A good restaurant that you can count on for good food in a nice, unassuming atmosphere. Service aims to please and the menu is interesting in a positive way.
Highly recommended by a good friend who's taste I trust. We ended up with a late reservation due to other obligations and I feel sometimes eating after 9 is risky. The salads were generous portions and the other two appetizers, cauliflower and octopus were thoroughly enjoyed. My husband probably should have ordered something other than the trout schnitzel as it was really just fried fish. The other meals were very good. Although I didn't taste my daughter's scallops, they looked a little too well done. Waiter made very good wine recommendations.
Our server was excellent. She dealt with a large group as the evening went on and remained ver y pleasant and engaging. Food was excellent. Staff could dress, appear in nicer clothing than ripped jeans.
Excellent food , interesting and varied menu. Excellent service. We will return.
Great food and desserts keeps me coming back for more. They always have great specials too.
I had a lovely dinner, and enjoyed my waiter. I thought the ambience was just so-so.
There are many components to an enjoyable dining experience. It is rare for all those components to be in place. Our experience at Grove Hill was one of those rare experiences where that is exactly what happened.
Food was hot & delish! First time there & definitely will be back again!
We have been there before. Satisfactory, hence our return. Service was top-notch. Food was fine. There was a letdown: the menu on the internet showed Veal Milanese which I had had previously. It was excellent, as good as anything in Milan. The menu we received at the restaurant did not have the Veal Milanese. We were told the veal was on the Summer menu which had been replaced by the Fall menu. So be it. However, the menu on the Open Table website should be current. That said, this is a good reliable place, with good food and service.
Service started out well, then went to dismal quickly. After our entries were served, it was difficult to get water glasses or beverages refilled. The restaurant was freezing on an unseasonalby pleasant evening. Our server was wearing a sweatshirt and complained about the cold. We waited forever for our check only to discover we got the wrong check and had to wait even longer for ours. As we were leaving. I commented to the hostess about the temperature being uncomfortable and she said it was because people were opening the front door too much. Huh?
The menu was quite diverse with a little bit of everything. The food was very good. The waiter not so hot. He didn't know the menu very well. I would call him an order taker. The table beside us had the great waiter so I don't blame the restaurant and we will definitely go back.
Great meal as always. We love to be able to go out for a nice meal and take our 9 year old daughter. The kids menu is excellent! My husband likes Grove Hill for the oysters and it is nice that the menu changes seasonally. Service excellent. Very attentive, but relaxed. Our server went out of her way to make our daughter feel welcomed.
