Grey Horse Tavern Ratings and Reviews
A wonderful environment, and great service. Unfortunately, the kitchen leaves a lot to be desired. A fanciful menu that's "farm to table", completely betrayed by the ineptitude of a chef who clearly has an ego that can't fulfil on delivery. Each dish has problems - overcooked (DEAD) pork chops, inconsistency in plating (differing portion sizes of the same entre delivered to the same table), and tables with bread plates and butter knives - and no bread (we asked and the answer we got was - "the plates look cute")... they simply can't deliver on what they promise. At the bar, the issue is the same - great cocktail ideas, but they suffer from a lack of actual alcohol, making them nothing more than oversweet, or over spiced "punch". It's a shame really - Grey Horse used to be a wonderful place - but unless they fix their "executive chef" problem, they'll be going under.
loved the tavern seen ...quiet in the back , romantic in the outside room, and a little nosy in the bar scene pending who's performing... Lazy Bunny performed so it was a full house, fun crowd and everyone knows everyone...you are bound to find a friend...the hostess working that night (one of the owner (taller one) very friendly and very attentive...
This is by far our favorite restaurant. Yes it's a little pricey but SO worth it. We also took their last reservation on a Sunday evening so much quieter allowing us to have great conversation! And, they didn't rush us or chase us out! Great evening from beginning to end!
We discovered GHT a while back and enjoyed a great deal ... something has changed. Our food this past weekend - the special were uninspired and the schnitzel was just not very good. The decor seems to be redone and it is more of a bar than a tavern ... a little disappointing.
I went here for dinner on Friday night with a good friend. The menu is "farm to table" and is always delicious. Our waitress was fantastic. My friend asked for Pims & Lemonade and the bartender made fresh-squeezed lemonade so she could have this cocktail. Later in the evening, they had an acoustic guitar singer and he was really good.
We went to see an acoustic band which they feature every Sunday afternoon. The place is adorable and quaint, with wrap around indoor porch seating which surrounds the small, but always packed bar area. The drinks were good, and prices fair. My husband and friend both had the burger which was delicious, and I was sorry I didn't. I ordered what I thought would be a farm to table Ceasar Salad with what I thought was grilled chicken. First of all, the romaine was limp, the chicken appeared to be microwaved and it was very bland. I am going to give it another try, and hope to enjoy my meal.
We returned again to the Grey Horse and it did not disappoint. Food was excellent - we started with Charcuterie which we highly recommend. The service was excellent. It was a Saturday evening and the distribution of tables really allows one a some privacy and quiet despite being busy.
Waited quite a while for food although the restaurant was not terribly busy. Looked forward to the Eggs Benedict we had on a previous visit but was told only the pulled pork version was available. It's fine to create variations but the traditional version should be available if requested. And the potatoes were overcooked and dry. Our credit card was not returned in the folder with the bill, consequently, we've had to cancel the card. No one called us to say the card had been left behind.
This is one of my favorite restaurants. I was really disappointed tonight though. Although it wasn't busy service was super slow and it took forever to get our dinner. The espresso rubbed medallions were veiny and chewy and the three tiny pieces were not worth the $30. The fried chicken was almost crack a tooth crispy. We ordered gelato for dessert and I thought they were churning it in the kitchen considering how long it took to get to the table.
We decided on GHT for my father's birthday yesterday because we live locally and had visited for dinner once before. When we arrived, we asked for drinks for our children. The waitress informed us that they could only provide glass jars. We then asked for straws to make things a bit easier and to avoid any accidents, and she said that they do not supply straws. When ordering, I asked if I could substitute a vegetable for my fried potatoes and the waitress kindly stated that I could replace the fries with the veggies of the day. Since I am trying to eat cleaner, I also requested some salsa instead of ketchup and she replied that she could give me some pico de gallo. I was not advised of any additional fees that I may receive, nor did I expect any. The food was not bad but when the bill came, I was charged $4 for the pico de gallo and $4 for the string beans that she had given me instead of butter fried potatoes. Total rip off and not child friendly at all. We were more than disappointed.
We went there for a get together with friends (there were 4 of us) and we all enjoyed the place and food very much. Good craft draft beer and wine selection. Service was wonderful, there were a lot of specials and a creative menu for all. I being the only vegetarian was so pleased that I had many creative choices. The Veggie Burger with fries was excellent as were the rice ball appetizer. Someone else had mussels as an app and clams over linguine for dinner which he said was excellent. Other two had burgers that they said were excellent. We were too full for dessert but they sounded wonderful. We were not rushed which is what we like. Looking forward to going there again soon.
