Grey Horse Tavern
Grey Horse Tavern is proud to support small farms, local producers, artists and musicians.
Always enjoy the atmosphere. Staff is friendly and well trained. My husband loves this restaurant but didn’t love the tile fish with sobe noodles in broth. Fish was good but noodles and broth not so much.
Consistently good - keeps us coming back!
The food is fresh, and delicious. The portions are perfect. The cocktails are worth coming in for alone. I love the live music, and the wait staff is super attentive and kind. Great place.
The food was delicious and the wait staff excellent! We were seated on the porch which eas great. We coukd hear the music but were able to have a lovely conversation with our friends.
I was looking for a place to eat with live music and was searching the Patchogue area when the Gray Horse Tavern popped up in my search. I love places that ooze character and this place caught my eye. So I chose GHT and I’m glad I did.
We had drinks at the bar while waiting for the rest of our party, there was a male and Female bartenders that were friendly, polite and engaging people, who took time to tell the old buildings History! We were then escorted to our table and the food was extremely delicious, and the waitstaff was friendly, polite and very attentive to everyones needs. It was a quiet place and overall a great dining experience. We then back to the bar and sat down and enjoyed a few more drinks and listened to an excellent local band, Jellyband 10. This place gets a 5 out of 5 rating from me and my party. Although the prices may scare you at first, the food quality and taste is worth every penny!

Food was exceptional as always. A little noisy due to bar activity.
Very good food. Just, not the most friendly menu for Gluten or Dairy Free
Have been coming to this restaurant for some time. The service is wonderful and the food is fantastic. And to top it all off, they have live music on the weekends.
The overall experience is so lovely here. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The servers are all very friendly. Drinks are unique and very tasty as well as strong. The lamb ribs are so delicious and tender with tons of flavor. The oysters are so fresh and ice cold. The only issue I have had here are the entrees. My risotto was soupy and only had truffle flavor with no other notes. I would recommend for large parties and date night.
Can't go wrong with Lamb ribs for the appetizer.
The Grey Horse was always one of my favorite local restaurants, however, a while back, I believe a new chef or owner came in and revamped the menu. They took away their Signature Burger and their Signature Deasert, Beinets. But more than that, what I don't understand is the menu itself. It used to change seasonly, and they had some variety. Now it's been the same for far too long, and barely anything new or different. So if you eat there once or twice, you'll be disappointed if you go back, with very limited choices... same old same old....ruining what was a great place. ☹️
I enjoy going here because of the atmosphere. It’s more like a bluegrass, country place. I have sat at the bar once waiting on a seat and the bartender is good at making a nice drink. I’ve had ups and downs with the food there. One time I went and my salmon dinner was overly salty instead of flavorful from herbs. My most recent visit the lamb chop I had was perfectly seasoned . I will frequently go back because of the ambiance. It allows for a conversation as well as a friendly night out.
Good, fresh food. Friendly staff. Nice ambience.
However, the front room had a very strange noxious smell.
It's our go-to place and, as always, everything was delicious. Service is always outstanding. Our server, Zoe, has been with Grey Horse since the beginning. She's terrific, as were the other staff helping her. If you haven't been there, go. It's a terrific neighborhood spot.
Great Meal - Great atmosphere and service - wait staff and hostess couldn’t have been more friendly and responsible
My husband and I love this restaurant. We do our best to come here every few months to celebrate or just have good food. The ambiance is so warm and inviting, the staff is super friendly (shout out to Zoe, we've had her as our server twice and she is amazing.) The food is amazing and prices are ridiculously reasonable. Each time we leave our only regret is that we don't have an extra stomach for all the good food.
We have never sat in the tavern area (although they do have live music on the weekends.) It might get a bit noisy there but in the main areas, it is generally quiet. It's a perfect date night
The best food and atmosphere in a warm and intimate place.
Great restaurant with great food! Our waitress was very attentive. I had the salmon, which was delicious. My husband had the veal chop special and he raved a out it.
Fabulous meal with fresh ingredients, wonderful flavor combinations, beautiful presentation, and helpful and friendly staff!
Excellent food and delicious strawberry shortcake
Hanger steak delicious but small portion
Salmon delicious but small portion
we were in an interior room with three tables and one table was so loud
waitresses so friendly and sweet and right there when you wanted them
Great food, great service. This is a hidden gem.
Our group throughly enjoyed our evening with delicious food generous portions fantastic service and quiet relaxed charm. All aspects were terrific to make for a memorable evening.
Ordered the hanger steak and the potatoes were cold
This was our second visit to the Grey Horse and we continue to be impressed by its inventive and satisfying menu, above average wine list, attentive service and soothing ambiance where we can actually carry on a conversation without straining our vocal cords. But consistency is the hallmark of restaurants we put on our go-to favorites list and I'm not sure the Grey Horse has earned that distinction yet. The duck entree was yet again flavorful, though a bit overcooked. Likewise, strips of organic chicken on my kale salad were clearly prepared well in advance and on the dry side, however, the salad's delicious and contrasting medley of tender beets, chewy quinuoa, and fresh goat cheese paired with dried cherries and a zesty citrus dressing showed through. We'll be back, though, in the hopes of finally penciling it onto our list.
AMAZING FOOD. !!!!! From the hostess to bartender to waitstaff , impeccable service !!!
There were six of us for dinner and everyone was very happy with their appetizers, entrees and desserts.
Consistently great! Always happy we chose GHT!
Good overall experience, food was super fresh and well prepared...
Service was a little off... first cocktail took a long time, never got a good answer to my white wine question, was simply told to order the most expensive bottle ...menus not taken after order, sat on table until app came... entrees came quick while apps were still on table... little things that elevate some places service just weren't there.
Not sure how kitchen runs out of a dish on the small menu at 7:30 when the whole menu is locally sourced, fresh, for that weekend, but the popular stuff goes quick!
I'll be back for sure.
Appetizers were amazing. Duck was just fair. Wine list by the glass needs improving.
Difficult to judge due to visiting on New Years Eve. Food very good, but menu limited. Primary server somewhat slow, but friendly. Backup servers very good. Like the character of the restaurant. Will visit again.
New Year’s Eve
Went for an early-ish dinner (7pm) on NYE and had a great experience. Food and service were excellent. Sat in the enclosed porch area which was romantic and quiet (and not at all cold or drafty!). The main dining room seemed a bit louder, but not sure if it was "too loud." Our waiter was friendly and personable yet completely professional. Overall, it was a wonderful meal and I would definitely return to GHT.
Exceptional food. Attentive service. All in a non-pretentious atmosphere.
Really liked this place. Waiter was very friendly and accommodating. Seating was intriguing, looked out on train tracks and caught sight of frequent passenger traffic. Nicely decorated interior. Luscious cocktail menu, fresh raw bar, wonderful specials and unbelievable entrees. Good wine list and great desserts. What more could you ask for?
Great Food. Great Atmosphere
A nice dining experience and friendly service for our large group of 13. Food was excellent!
Good Stuff. A little crowded at the bar.
Our 4th visit as we’ve really enjoyed our meals there previously. Christmas Eve was good, but not great. The butternut squash soup was terrific: maybe the best I’ve ever had. But we both chose the prime rib special ($39) and were quite disappointed: 1/2 slice of light brown prime rib that was nowhere near medium rare. The accompanying roasted asparagus and potato purée were very good. We had planned to order the duck two ways and the pork chop which we’ve had before and loved. Tempted by the special and it being Christmas Eve, we made the wrong decision.
Major dining area is the porch which was cold; the chairs around the table were metal folding chairs which were uncomfortable and cold. The best part of the entire experience was the baby kale salad, the pork chop I received was not cooked completely - might try it one more time when the weather is warmer.
