Service here is really not good. Have been multiple times and go back because it is in the neighborhood and food is good, but really lousy service. This time waitress dropped the bill and basically never came back. Had to flag down a busboy to pay the check.
Went for restaurant week with friends, but ordered off the regular menu because the restaurant week “deal” was more costly than just ordering those items off the menu. Food was decent but not anything to get excited about. Service was ok - Not in a hurry to go back.
We came for lunch and we're happy to see that the same great service and food is a staple at GN.
A true gentleman
Good food, vibrant place. Little noisy for a business meeting but overall would go back.
Server was awful, food was marginal (but came out wrong 3x). Server couldn't tell us when our food would be ready (burger and rotisserie chicken), because "I'm not the chef", after we'd already been waiting >45 minutes. Then he rudely instigated a fight with us and left, never to return. We will never return to Great Northern as well.
Great Northern Tavern used to be one of our favorite places, but it has definitely gone downhill. Our reservation was for 6:30. We did not receive our food until close to 8:00. It was way too long of a wait and the staff did not offer to compensate us in any way -- just apologies from our server who probably had no control over it. And they ran out of mashed potatoes of all things. The food is still good, but the place is becoming run down. They no longer use table cloths, the flowers in the vase were wilted, and the lamps along the windows no longer work. It takes care and attention to detail to keep a restaurant running in good form and it's clear GNT has slipped. Hope management can pull it back up because the bones of this restaurant are great and the recipes are good. Hire enough staff, get some attention to detail, and we will be back!!
We have made reservations at Great Northern in the past and it has been amazing! However, after this time we will not be going back. Upon sitting down, the waiter came over and started tell us all of the beer that they didn’t have on draft after seeing our favorites were out we decided to go with a bottle of wine. The wine was not only expensive but also horrible. We had a party of 6 of after finishing the wine we decided to go with a different bottle and when we requested different glasses we were informed that they were out of wine glasses. When we ordered the waiter told us that they were not informed on how to use the restaurant week special that we came in for and we were told that 3 items on that menu that they were out of as well. When she brought us our food it all came at once (appetizer, salad and entree) and steak knifes didn’t come as well. It was a horrible dining decision and we will not be back. Not only because of the service but also due to the decline of food quality.
Half chicken was very good with veggies and sweet potato fries. Hadn’t been there in awhile as service and quality had dropped off considerably over past few years. May have to try them again now.
Good business lunch, quiet enough for discussion and the food is good. Ordered Peruvian chicken - tasty but slightly dry
Normally a favorite of mine, but tonight the food quality was less than expected for the price point. Peruvian chicken was very dry. My wife actually sent her salmon back to the kitchen. I expect, and usually receive, more from this restaurant. Better in the past, but tonight was not a good night.
We had very good meals and enjoyed the restaurant. Will be back.
My boyfriend and I came here for the first time on Valentine’s Day. Our reservation was at 8:00pm and we were sat by 8:30. The hostess seemed very stressed out and flustered with the business of the restaurant. When we walked in, there were several tables open in the lounge area that the hostess never offered to the 8 or so of us waiting (4 couples). After about 20 minutes of waiting, she finally sat us at these open tables that had been available since we arrived. Our waiter was even more stressed out and panicked (somehow). Although he was very kind and apologetic of the wait, he actually ran into our table at one point because he was cutting the corner so fast, drinks ended up spilling. I ordered an appetizer of soup when we first sat down and never received it; it ended up getting taken off the bill. While the service was honestly horrible, I WILL be back again to give it another try on a less busy occasion. The food was phenomenal and totally worth the wait, at a reasonable price too! The server was super caring and knowledgeable that he was making mistakes, and used every effort to apologize, even covering our first round of drinks. If the wait staff just slowed down and took a breath, I think it would’ve been a better experience, but the food was so good that I will be returning to let them redeem themselves.
So we went there for our Valentine's dinner. Worst experience of our life. First of all we got there at 7:30 didn't get our first drink until 8:15. Had to ask for water three times. They were out of mashed potatoes (how do you run out of mashed potatoes) and the quinoa salad which the waiter neglected to tell our 3rd person when she ordered. When the food finally came at 8:45.. It was cold and shriveled no bearnaise sauce on the steak. We were not charged for our meal (because we didn't eat it) and they comped our drinks, so that was a bright spot on what was otherwise a dismal experience.
Absolute garbage made reservations for Valentine's day show up 10 minutes before I reservation to let them know we are there about 30 minutes goes by before they ask who we are again after about 45 minutes we finally get seated, a waiter comes by not very fast with water asks us if there's anything else we want, didn't have two different beers on the drink menu, we place an order for an appetizer (nachos) come out fairly quick and are decent, then we place an order for a chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and another order for a buffalo burger with pepper jack cheese bacon, avocado and chips on the side, it takes forever for food to come out when it does come out the chicken fried steak has Rice not mashed potatoes with it, the burger was ordered medium rare and comes out burnt with no pepper jack cheese and No bacon, I catch the server who then proceeds to go back to the kitchen and come back and says oh sorry it'll be awhile on the mashed potatoes takes the burger back and says it won't be very long finally with still no burger or mashed potatoes we say why don't you just put the burger in a box since you've already ruined the night, they still can't get the order right and put the burger in a to-go box with fries not chips like we originally ordered, the manager finally comes over and barely apologizes and takes the food items off of our check, thanks for ruining my Valentines dinner will never be going to this place again and I would NOT recommend it......
They were unprepared for Valentines Day. They ran out of basics early in the evening - potatoes, quinoa, chocolate cake. Kitchen and service was slow. Too many other restaurants with better value. Go elsewhere.
It was Valentine's Day so super busy. They still managed to have great service, food and drinks. Good wine selection and the happy hour was great. We had dinner afterwards.
I guess Valentines is not a good broad picture. But they blew it! Ran out of many items by 7. Substituted Mexican rice for Quinoa rice?
Food was cold. Service was very slow. Kitchen was a mess. Tough valentine's meal.
We have eaten at Great Northern many, many times and have always enjoyed it and felt the food was good - especially the rigs!! We felt that the Valentine Menu lacked good food and was a rush job. Sorry we didn’t’ opt for the rigs.
We’ll be back.
The restaurant is spacious, nicely decorated with large hanging lamps and very relaxing....
The menu offers a wide nice selection of interesting dishes....
Staff are always accommodating and service oriented.
Five thumbs up!
A very nice lunch. The service was prompt and the food was very good.
Great service. Excellent food
Our server was exceptional. Very friendly. The food was good. Always consistent.
Had a great time, thanks!
Love the food! The service is always spot on as well!
Dinner was very good and the service was excellent. The atmosphere is very nice.
I have always enjoyed my visits to Great Northern. They have consistently good customer service and offer delicious food options at a fair price. Local high school sports teams sell cards that include coupons here (buy one get one) and that makes this an even better value! great ambiance and always leave satisfied!
Our waiter was great. Very good and competent. We enjoyed our day
The service was very slow. They brought my salad after the main course.
Great staple of a restaurant. It didn't disappoint! The food was great as was the service. I definitely would recommend it as a good spot to grab a drink and food with an ambiance that allows you to actually still talk to the person at the table. Very nice.
Birthday/New Years Eve
Ordered an app to be delivered before main meal came out and the main meal followed the app by 2 minutes.
You couldn’t enjoy the app since your meal was there.
Green Beens where over cooked and mashed potatoes where cold.
We had a large group of people coming in at different times and Andrew was so on top of it! He did such a great job and the food was fantastic!
Great Northern good for my party of 7. Dinner was at 4:30 so not a true evening dining experience. Had the place to ourselves. But everything was good.
Food quality was fresh, but not the best of flavors.
Probably one of the worst meals I’ve ever had. We waited for over an hour for our food and when it came it was cold, bland and not worth sending back. The server seemed way too busy, and when we expressed our displeasure all she said was “would you like me to take it back?”. That was my first and last experience at Great Northern. There are just too many other, better options around.
Restaurant was very cold but it was the end of the night so there wasn't a lot of body heat.
I am not picky but it was the worst meal and service I have ever had. All 6 of us ordered burgers. Five came and remaining meal 20 minutes later. Took 90 minutes. All of the burgers were charred. The service was terrible. Server got all the orders wrong. WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN. I made the reservations and I was embarrassed that I took friends there.
