Had the best time as always! Service, food, and atmosphere were all excellent!
Had a terrible experience; two entrees were truly inedible (one pasta, one shrimp & grits) and two were truly just meh. server was extremely pleasant but food took AGES. we took out-of-towners and were mortified at how poor the experience was (we had not been in maybe 2 years). I would not go back nor recommend this.
While friendly and pleasant, the server also did not seem incentivized to try and rectify. We would have declined an offer to comp the food but this was not even offered, not was a replacement entree.
Delicious and fun meal at Grays with three couples. Terrific service, food especially the salmon was excellent. Love this place. They take great care of us.
This our first time at Grey’s so I am giving them the benefit of the doubt this time. First, let me say it is in a great location in the heart of downtown Franklin. The building is beautiful with so much history. The ambiance was perfect. We made reservations for Sunday brunch and sat upstairs. There were 2 musicians playing and it started as a good experience. Perfect setting! However, this is also where is began to go down hill. We sat down & ordered an appetizer. We had been looking forward to trying the pimento cheese balls. They came highly recommended by a friend. About 10 minutes later our waiter came back with our drinks (2 sweet teas) and took our order. Many people came in and out receiving their food and finishing up their brunch while we waited for our appetizer. After 30 minutes I asked the waiter if the appetizer would be coming soon. He said he was going to check on it & it should be up. After 7-8 minutes more he came back to say he forgot to put in the appetizer order but our food was almost up. Much to our disappointment we cancelled the appetizer since he said our food was almost ready. We have now been seated for 40 minutes with only drinks. 15 more minutes pass and still no food! Our waiter then comes to our table & tells us the kitchen lost our ticket but he had them make it while he watched. He places our food down & it was COLD! This lets me know it had been sitting there and this wasn’t a kitchen problem but a waiter problem. When he came over we let him know it was cold but a this point we were over Grey’s. He did comp us a banana pudding for the table and gave us the “family discount” which was 50% off the check. I won’t say we will never go back but I will say I would not want the same waiter again. There was a blonde girl upstairs who seemed to be on top of it. Everyone around us seemed to get their food quickly and I do appreciate the dessert and discount. It was just disappointing to leave with such a poor experience.
Love, love that they had vegan options, food as well as wine. It would be great to see a vegan entree.
This was the 1st time at Gray’s that I haven’t been pleased with either my cocktail or my entree. The tequila sunrise did not have ice and was too sweet and syrupy. The linguine had too many competing flavors and the squash had not been peeled and the peel was tough on some of the pieces. Although both the downstairs and upstairs were almost empty when we arrived and when we left, we were given a table up close to the bar where it was a little noisy. We did have a reservation. I didn’t feel that any of the staff particularly cared.
My favorite place in downtown Franklin. Bravo on cocktails creativity.
We had a wonderful first-time experience at Gray's on Main this past Sunday. We had early dinner reservations (5 pm), at which time the restaurant was not very busy -- which we enjoyed. Our server, Sam, was very upbeat, friendly, and helpful, which only added to our very positive first impression. Our entree (salmon) was prepared in a unique fashion to us, and we were very glad we both ordered it. Based on this, we look forward to our next visit there.
Table in room with loud obnoxious kids. Website said vegan options available when I asked they said no vegan options available on Sunday. What’s up with that.? Got the wrong bill. Etc.
Suppertime menu was 5 star. Lunch was good but not to level of supper. This is the place to try shrimp gumbo!
It was not crowded because of the weather so we were able to hear each other. Our server was awesome and the food was good and pleasantly different.
Delicious food and great music! The staff and management made our evening very special. They included a historical tour of the building and homemade tonic samples. Highly recommend Gray's!
Best restaurant in franklin!! Can’t say enough good things about Grays.
The food was ok. The appetizers were great. The shrimp and grits was below average and the fried chicken was OK. I would say they were worth $12 not $26 plates. The custom bar drinks are a 10. Absolutely worth waiting while they make them from scratch. The music was good but a little hard to hear. Overall slightly overpriced for the experience but I would recommend.
Really cool building but obviously not a high-energy spot on Monday nights. Biggest concern was food temp. Flavors were pretty good but nothing could be labelled hotter than "warm" and some items were straight up chilly, including the appetizer bread for the table. May want to try it on a busier night.
We were greeted and shown to our table immediately upon arriving. However,it took 10 minutes for anybody to talk to us after that. The hostess who seated us brought us our waters. After about 5 more minutes, 15 minutes after being seated, the hostess finally came over and introduced herself. We ordered our food and, surprisingly, received our food fairly quickly. I ordered the fried chicken and my wife the pasta. Even though we received our food quickly, it was very bland and for the price we were paying, was expecting more. Lastly, when making the reservation, I did put a note that we were in town celebrating my wife’s bday. To my disappointment, not one person acknowledged this. We were in town from Atlanta and heard good things about Gray’s, but from our experience, it did not live up to expectation, unfortunately.
Our server Brian was outstanding! Food was also great. Music for our Sunday Brunch was enjoyable & allowed us to talk.
A neighborhood gem in historic Downtown Franklin. Highly recommended!
We had one of the best meals I have had in a very long time! The Brussels sprouts app was amazing. I had the salmon for dinner and it was delicious - the flavors and textures were so good.
We had a terrific Sunday brunch here — the sweet potato and sausage skillet was delicious and the Bloody Mary was divine! A couple of our party members had the French Toast and they gave it a rave review, too!
We were greeted promptly upon arrival and the hostess asked if we had ever been there, to the historic old pharmacy building (we hadn’t) and pointed out a lot of the history and architecture along the way to our table. Being the first Sunday after New Year’s, the white lights were still hung in trees on and around the stage and there was a jazz musician, which really added to the ambiance.
I can’t wait to try the Shrimp & Grits and the Pimiento Cheese Balls! While I was there I actually texted an out of town friend to tell her I’d found where we will go for Bloody Marys when she comes to visit.
We will definitely be back!
Friends visiting from out of town
Good food and service. However, the price of a single bourbon (Blanton’s) was an an outrageous $28.30. We spoke to the manager and she swore that was the actual price, blaming it on high Tennessee taxes. Well, we happen to know that a high-end restaurant down the street sells it for $15. We think they made a mistake and would not own up to it. Because of this we will not be back.
Food and service were amazing as always!
Wonderful food wonderful place! Can’t wait to go back and try everything on the menu.
The food was so so. Not worth the amount that is charged. Gray’s needs to get a new menu. They have the same food all the time and it is a hit or miss on if it is good or not. They serve warm water, you have to ask for ice. We went on a Monday , which we won’t do again because they do not offer any specials nor entertainment.
Wonderfully eclectic menu. Christmas music was cranked a little loud at times making it difficult to converse. But all in all, a great lunch. Has become a holiday tradition to meet here with good friends just before Christmas.
Great dinner and service! Specialty cocktails were also wonderful. First visit and we bought a gift card for a Christmas gift. Loved it!
The Chardonnay on the menu and my favorite was not available. No salad choice was available due to the seasonal change and the menu items were very limited. It was extremely noisy. As a Franklin resident, I come to expect a better dining experience here but this may have just been a fluke occurrence.
This was possibly the worse dinner in a restaurant of my life!
We were there a few days before Christmas and the music playing in the background was so festive. The service was great and the food very tasty.
Everything was perfection, I can’t recommend this place enough!
Worth a visit but limited menu for such a nice location.
Food was just fair, I had the veggie Pasta and the flavor was very dull.
Family in town for the holiday
Overall experience was good. Service was capable but overly opinionated about what we should eat and drink. Even to the point of suggesting I have the kitchen remove the greens from the shrimp and grits I ordered. Cocktails were too expensive for what you actually received.
Wife and I went there for our anniversary. We had to go early (5pm) due to a commitment. No happy hour. Service was excellent (as it should be since they were not busy). Wife had vegetable linguine and she loved it. They recommended the fried chicken, their specialty, for me and it was okay - not great. My main concern here is the cost. $11 for a glass of italian blend red wine (it was good, but not that good, and that was thier least expensive pour). My chicken was like $22. That's just too much for chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans. There are other places around that have better chicken for less (e.g., Southside Grill has pistachio encrusted chicken with goat cheese mashed potatoes and Brussel sprouts for $17 and it is excellent). I doubt we will return.
This is a most stop whenever I am in the Franklin area. Everything is always topnotch from the friendly and very knowledgable waitstaff to the delicious menu. I love how they change many of the items from season to season while keeping a few of the All-Time great items on there. We started with the always delicious biscuits & bacon-wrapped figs (5-stars). It paired very well with the seasonal cocktail the waiter recommended. As for the main course, everyone in our party tried something different and they all left a clean plate at the end of the meal.
Great food in a fun atmosphere
Wonderful service and food!
