Quite elegant restaurant inside the historic US Grant hotel. The staff was extremely attentive and knowledgeable. I will return on my next visit to San Diego.
Everything was great. Perfect for a special occasion.
Food was better than some of the reviews I read. The bread incredible, the lamb shank delicious, the salmon 4 ways amazing!
The restaurant and hotel don't miss on the small details. From the beautiful decor to the smells that greet you in the lobby, everything is spot on.
The restaurant starts you with bread that is without question the best bread I have ever eaten. It is a light and airy focaccia with a perfect crunch on top and bottom. Every dish from appetizer to dessert was well executed both visually and with flavors.
The service was outstanding and the food was even better. I especially like the veal shank and mushroom salad
while I love coming there each time we go to the Opera (we're from the East), or other reason to be near at all, this time, while the food looked wonderful, I suspect my scallops were suspect (pun intended). Nevertheless, loved the cocktail with "Ice Cube" and the other with the yellow bird. I am sure we will return, but.... probably not for scallops. Others had lamb, steelhead, soup, all really fine.
Step back in time to when life was a little slower and service was paramount. Step back to when crisp white linen was necessary for a fine meal, to when space between tables was important. Try the historic Grant Grill - I can't imagine being disappointed in the excellent food, service and environment. Treat yourself for just a cocktail and you'll be back for a meal. Don't forget breakfast - this is my favorite breakfast spot in all of San Diego. Indulge yourself.
Ambiance was great and service superb. Surroundings were comfy and intimate. Overall very relaxing. Nice bar sitting clusters with reasonable separation between adjacent groups so conversing was easy. However, once the band arrived the noise level in the bar and the adjacent restaurant skyrocketed to the point that having a conversation while eating became impossible. This is a business hotel so conversing is a big issue for most visitors.
Everybody at Grant Grill is great!
I ventured out from my usual cochinita pibil and tried the croque madam and it was great all in the party loved it and one person said it was one of the best burgers ever
Food and drinks were innovative and delicious. Service was spectacular. Everything was on point. We will be back.
Grabbed a quick meal here while staying at the US Grant hotel. Friendly service. Convenient for guests. Yummy drinks.
Always a great “go to” restaurant for Downtown business dining.
The staff and atmosphere are beyond fantastic!
Especially Saul who so warm, friendly and extremely efficient!!!
Service was superb. Went for holiday business lunch. Very pleased.
Staff was very responsive and attentive to our needs. Love the atmosphere of the US grant and the grill.
This has become a family tradition for our Christmas lunch. It's beautifully decorated and the food is top notch. This year it was very difficult to follow conversations around the table, possibly the place we sat had more external noise than others, but besides that, we we're very happy and hope to return next year.
Overall a great experience. The staff is knowledgeable and courtesy - which is becoming increasingly difficult to find. Our waiter (whose name I wish I could remember) was exceptional. The food is great, but not amazing. At a minimum, the dishes are creative. Sometimes too creative. But overall, very good. This certainly isn't a value restaurant, but great for occasional / special visits.
The service was incredibly slow and disappointing, especially given that the restaurant was not very crowded. The food was good, although my sons Medium hamburger was very bloody and qualified as a Rare. Since we never saw the waiter again my son just ate his Rare burger.
Excellent waitstaff and food!! Ambiance and location are primo
Had a very enjoyable brunch with good service - prompt seating at the time of the reservation, immediate service attention with water and drinks order. Everything flowed as it should and the food was delicious.
We had a lovely time before catching the Nutcracker. I had the Chilean sea bass with risotto and it was delicious. The quantity was perfect.
Exquisite dining experience. Conveniently located to hotel within the Gas Lamp District.
Overall this was an outstanding dining experience, the food was delicious and the service superb. The quiet ambiance and uncrowded table spacing sets the Grant Grill apart from many other fine dining establishments. The serving portion of one of the appetizers was a bit small for the price, otherwise everything was excellent.
I had a wonderful dinner, dessert, and wines. The service was excellent and I will eat here again and certainly recommend it to others. My server, Sergio, was kind, attentive and knowledgeable with all the wine questions I had. The Christmas ambiance was amazing.
Our waitress was an absolute delight. Her suggestions for our drinks (wine) where impeccable.
The food however wasn’t anything to talk about. We had a total of 4 guests and everyone was a tad disappointed on the food. The portions are very small for the price and the tastes where nothing special.
The bread that was given while we browsed the menu was the best tasting item we all had.
The service is so GREAT, the ambiance even just as great. However not quite worth the price.
If you are in downtown San Diego don't miss the Grant Grill in the venable Grant Hotel on Broadway.
It exudes old California with dark woods, chandeleers, crisp linen table cloths, private booths, excellent service and a chef with a real flair. The FOIS was perfectly prepared with a pistchio granola accompaniment; the veal came with roasted bone marrow......sweet; the lamb as rare and tasty as can be.
Pricy but extremely reasonable with an extraordinary dining experience. Valet parking at the hotel entry way.
The bar is equally private, but with a big screen for sports afficianados and every conceivable alcoholic brand to the ceiling.
Enjoy the Grant Hotel Lobby...it's a California classic.
They are long overdue to change up the menu. Particularly for the theater crowd, the menu is becoming tired although the food is always good. Running out of things to order.
Excellent in every way.
The Grant Grill service staff was very attentive. We ordered the ribeye and the sea bass. The sides to our entrees were a little heavy handed with the salt, but the meals were delicious none the less. We both agree that the sea bass entree was seasoned deliciously. Both plates were left clean! :-)
The US Grant offers warmth in reception, our server (Beatrice) was excellent, professional yet friendly and the food delicious especially the soup before our entree. For theater goers they offer a reduced rate valet parking.
Another wonderful meal at Grant Grill. Beatrice took excellent care of us and everything was delicious. Sunday nights are quiet (no live music) but still a wonderful and not obtrusive jazz soundtrack in restaurant and lounge. First time getting the delicious Manhattan too. Thank you!
Food was good but not remarkable. Mushroom soup rich but slightly flat. Scallops good but not stunning. Gnocchi adequate. Excellent service. Not too noisy. Very good for pre theater, with excellent location and fine service.
Went for lunch prior to seeing play at civic center. For 5 star luxury hotel to be out of avocado was insane. Could no one run to the market? Otherwise it’s a wonderful place.
Amazing hospitality in a private dining area. Exceptional service
Everything was perfect, except for a never-ending swarm of fruit flies that plagued us throughout our meal.
Always amazing service and outstanding food.
Rude front desk. I can’t believe they can’t get nicer people to work at this restaurant.
Great small dinner before theatre!!!!! The service was GREAT and the food was the BEST we have had downtown before a theatre event, and we do MANY!!
Grant Grill never fails to deliver. Its pricey for sure, but great, innovative dishes and good service.
Wonderful jazz band!! We had the pimento crab appetizer and it was fabulous.
