The food is always excellent. The atmosphere is beautiful.
If you want to have a quiet meal where you can talk, this is a great place. Tables feel private and the excellent service makes you not feel forgotten.
Chilean sea bass was delicious and perfectly prepared as was my partner's trout. The server, however, was outstanding. She was attentive without being overly fussy. It's remarkable what a difference a good server makes.
The food is delicious, the dining room is gorgeous, the service, from the hostess, bar, waitstaff, and bussers is impeccable! It’s a little bit pricey so save for special events.
This is my go to place for a meal! Great service and delicious food. The Opah was amazing!
Located close to Lyceum, Civic Center and other theatrical venues. Had a wonderful lunch in relaxed setting.
For $24, I was served the smallest food portion ever. I thought there must be a separate plate coming with sides, but sadly no: a tiny piece of fish, literally one tiny potato halved, one artichoke heart slivered, and a drizzle of sauce. I could have fit it all in one bite. Service was slow, multiple servers kept offering the same menus after we'd ordered-just a disappointment all around. Lovely ambiance but I won't be going back. For the record, the salads and burger looked like more robust portions. The pasta was only normal sized if you added protein for an additional cost.
Excellent - my companion and I both had the veal and lobster which was delicious. Prior to the entree, we were served a freshly baked Focaccia bread that tempted us almost beyond will power - but we knew that one bite would lead to many more, so we abstained. Believe me, it was hard to do! While drinking a glass of Chardonnay we were presented with an Amuse Bouche of Ribeye steak and mushrooms, compliments of the chef. Although we didn’t order dessert, we received two delightful “Mexican Wedding Cookies” (at least that’s what I call them). A really lovely meal with perfect ambiance - I’ll be back!
Breakfast was great, cant wait to try dinner on my next trip
Yes, great service and delicious food in an elegant setting!!
The food was absolutely delectable. But what really stood out was the outstanding warm service and hospitality. I applaud this restaurant and its staff.
We came here for our fifth wedding anniversary and it was amazing! We made reservations and got there a little early so we went to the bar and had a drink which was perfectly crafted and incredibly delicious the ambience is so nice and comfortable but also very fancy and the service from everyone from the hostess to the bartender to the server to the busboy was incredible my husband ordered the lamb which was the best thing I’ve ever eaten and I had the main lobster with veal which was also incredible
Amazing service, food, craft cocktails and experience. Will be back!
Hi, we live downtown, and have for years...we have eaten so many places, and this is the first time we've eaten at the Grant Grill... It won't be the last!! Overall imho, best restaurant in all of downtown! Drinks are also very unique!! One page of drinks, (seems funny for a restaurant like this) are all themed after 90's rap! My wife had a cocktail themed from Icecube, and there was a picture of Icecube in the actual icecube!! So cool!! Cant say enough good about the Grant Grill!!
The best experience we have had in a llooooonnnnnggggg time! Thank you to all the staff at Grant Grill!
This place was absolutely spectacular in every way! I have not had service like that in a very long time. The food was lick your plate delicious! The ambiance was wonderful and they even had a live band which was not your norm. They were super good!
The food was all fresh. 3 of us had different variations of the fish which was amazing. I wish I was more hungry. Wine list is also exceptional.
Honestly - I will eat here and tell everyone I know to eat here!
Very pleasantly surprised at the old fashioned elegance and nice service. Very nice place well staffed.
I ordered my entree medium rare and it arrived well done. The entree plate was replaced at once and was prepared as requested.
Four of us with different tastes had a reservation for lunch at 11:30. Seated promptly, great service. Mostly American style, with enough choices for meat eaters, vegetarians and those who like seafood. Several specials of the day. We didn’t have any alcohol, but they were prompt is refilling our water and drinks. We all loved the food and the price was reasonable. We’ll come back again!
This is a special place with great food. The Archtones play at the bar.
Service was excellent, food was absolutely delicious. Overall, a completely delightful experience.
excellent food and great service. Our server was fantastic. He treated us as his only customers. Answered all of our questions. Highly recommend
Outstanding on all counts! It was my first time there and enjoyed the atmosphere, service, cocktails, wine selection and the food was perfect portions and absolutely delicious! Attention to all details were paid and the stafff was impeccable! Will definitely return when in San Diego again! Totally FIVE Stars
Best restaurant in San Diego! I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Wonderful atmosphere, delicious food and exemplary service.
Beautiful restaurant seemingly devoted to ripping off the clientele.
Wonderful and historic hotel - very pricey menu. The food was good (scallops and sea bass were what the three of us ordered.
Portions were exceptionally small!!! Spoke to our waiter who was very nice and he brought over manager. Manager said she’d see what could be done. She never returned - at end of meal asked again to see her.
Not only was absolutely nothing done (we literally needed to eat out again after the show we went to as we were quite hungry still). No “we will comp desserts or have a glass of wine on us” - literally nothing. In fact - the glass of wine my friend returned as he was so upset - was still on the bill. Will never dine hear again. A shame - as a local it’s sad to remove from dining options.
This was our first visit to the Grant Grill. Incredible food, knowledgeable and friendly staff. They made us feel like we were family. Can’t wait to go back again.
everything was great except noise level from the bar area
The bread is wonderful! Don’t worry that if you eat it all you’ll be too full to finish your entree, entrees were very good but so small. Between the two of us we held back on the bread, eating only half of it. After salads & entrees we were still hungry. We each ordered dessert, something we never do, usually share one or skip it. Taking that into consideration with the prices, it left us disappointed!
We enjoyed our food very much, especially the live jazz music
Amazing Sea Bass - one of the best I've ever had. Risotto was one of the best ever as well.
I have eaten at a few overrated spots in SD. This was a wonderful exception. The Lamb was amongst the best I have had. The sea bass my date had was also great. Service was friendly and attentive. Wine list a bit pricy, but not out of line for the quality of the restaurant. I'll be back!!!
The food was seasoned perfectly and was delicious. Great service and atmosphere.
Quite elegant restaurant inside the historic US Grant hotel. The staff was extremely attentive and knowledgeable. I will return on my next visit to San Diego.
Everything was great. Perfect for a special occasion.
Food was better than some of the reviews I read. The bread incredible, the lamb shank delicious, the salmon 4 ways amazing!
The restaurant and hotel don't miss on the small details. From the beautiful decor to the smells that greet you in the lobby, everything is spot on.
The restaurant starts you with bread that is without question the best bread I have ever eaten. It is a light and airy focaccia with a perfect crunch on top and bottom. Every dish from appetizer to dessert was well executed both visually and with flavors.
The service was outstanding and the food was even better. I especially like the veal shank and mushroom salad
while I love coming there each time we go to the Opera (we're from the East), or other reason to be near at all, this time, while the food looked wonderful, I suspect my scallops were suspect (pun intended). Nevertheless, loved the cocktail with "Ice Cube" and the other with the yellow bird. I am sure we will return, but.... probably not for scallops. Others had lamb, steelhead, soup, all really fine.
This is perhaps the very best restaurant we have experienced!!
From the moment we entered for dining, we were welcomed, seated, presented with options and served some of the best food ever.
It is a definite go-back place.
