Great food and service! Best steak ever! Will be back!
Went on Valentine’s Day as a family. Great food and drinks. Fun 1920s speakeasy ambiance.
Everything was wonderful! From making reservation to closing out our ticket! Drinks and food amazing! Staff amazing! Everything was brought out to us quickly. No waiting. The place is so beautiful and romantic! Loved the music too!
Grandstaff & Stein does a wonderful job creating the feeling of an old speakeasy. Their cocktail menu is very impressive and all of the options we ordered were very good. The food is good and the chef does a masterful job of cooking without over use of salt. That said, while everything was well cooked, my guest and I both felt that the seasoning was a bit lacking. The lack of salt and pepper on the table made seasoning the food to our liking impossible. Overall, good dinner, great drinks, and a cool and unusual atmosphere.
Brought my wife here for Valentine's day. Food, drinks, and atmosphere were amazing.
Exceptional service and exceptional food. From the ambiance to the menu variety, the experience was great. The chef is a magician! I dislike grits, but I figured I would give the Osso Bucco a try because I like veal. I got done eating my meal so quickly that I am still not sure what happened. Yes, the grits were delicious. The cocktails are delicious as well. This place is legit!!!
Awesome experience. My second visit and his first. Will definitely come back!
Great food and drinks nice vibe definitely will revisit
Reservation was simple and easily done on opentable. Drinks were good. Food was delicious. Ambiance was quiet, cute and they played 1920s music. Overall great experience.
The meal and the service were amazing. The booths had high backs so you didn’t feel like you were listening tot her able in back of you. Looking forward to our next meal there.
Went here for drinks and appetizers after reading a review online. The venue was super cute was awesome theming! Definitely check online because they have different specials every day of the week. Thirsty thursday was a good choice!
Great staff and great food. We were a party of four. We all had different dishes. It was a great dinner for everyone.
Kiersten was fabulous- made great drink suggestions and made me look like a hero with my gf. Awesome experience and will be back!!
I was so excited about spending New Years Eve at Grandstaff and Stein Book Sellers! I had been wanting to eat there for quite some time and I was finally going. I can't express the disappointment I felt when we were taken to our table! It was the first barrel table with teeny little bar stools located as you entered the bar area. I asked for another table, but was told they were all reserved. Well we had reservations too! My husband can't sit without back support so they brought him a chair. The chair made him sit below the table and no way could he have eaten, sitting this low. We were all very discusted they way our issue was handled. Never saw a manager and the hostess never came back to see if this was acceptable. That being said, we had an excellent waitress and the food was ok. Not sure if we will return. It really is a shame because the concept is so much fun.
As always, the food, drinks and atmosphere were AMAZING! GREAT way to end 2020!
Awesome service, witnessed them taking employees’ temperatures when they arrived for work & following many other COVID safety measures.
Amazing place - GREAT food , awesome staff, super cool ambiance and decor. One of a kind experience all around. Highly recommend
This place was perfect. Drinks were great as was the food. Perfect place for a date.
Great experience, didn’t realize it was a speakeasy until we got there and they asked for the password, a funny, or interesting story! Nevertheless, we made the cut and had a wonderful night. I had the Gnocchi and the wife had the Pot Pie both were phenomenal. Bartenders were fantastic, I tried a couple of the old fashion’s and another drink was made for my wife whom enjoys the sweeter tasting liberations. Everything was wonderful, would definitely come back!
This my second time at this restaurant and was not disappointed. The food was delicious, the drinks were inventive and our server, Ethan was was wonderful. It was sad to see how few people came to eat on a warm Saturday evening. I'm hoping Grandstaff makes it through the pandemic!
Very cool experience will definitely revisit!!!
Cozy bar, with warm lighting. Very cool entrance. Will definitely be returning!
Always delicious! I couldn’t have and alcoholic drinks so I asked for a mocktail and it was soooo good! One of my favorite restaurants!
G&S is a must visit, its a stepping back to the 1920s, - a vibe they've nailed for sure. The staff is friendly and attentive. The cocktails are unique and epitomize a speakeasy. Can't wait to go back!
A true gem in a hole in the wall. I first heard of Grandstaff on open table and decided to give the restaurant a try. I LOVE this place. The food was excellent, our server, Ethan was attentive and professional and the atmosphere (although dark) was comfortable. So happy we found a true Richmond standout!
Great old timey drinks and atmosphere. Our server was awesome. She was super cool and made great recommendations. We really enjoyed the experience.
Had out of town guests along with local friends that had never been to the Bookstore. They loved everything about it from drinks to service to food and knowledgeable staff. They loved it as we do
Love the atmosphere, cozy vibes and the drink options.
Wow. We were super disappointed in our recent dining opportunity at this restaurant. It is definitely a cool place but...the service was not at all good. We ordered a dink, no issue and then waited for another 40 mins to finally flag down a person who would take our order. The drinks were really just ok. The food was not even close to ok. The steak my husband ordered was TOUGH! Really TOUGH and lacked FLAVOR. The crabcakes I ordered were SMALL and not terribly tasty. The salad was missing ingredients and the stuffed mushrooms were BLAND and not at all worth the price. Needless to say...we won’t be returning.
We had a wonderful dining experience. Can’t wait to tell lots of people about this gem.
The possibilities with this venue are endless, but instead of a great experience, we were met with just another restaurant. The food was great and the staff was friendly, but it did not feel like a speakeasy experience. We dressed up for what we thought was going to be a 1920s evening but the staff didn't even dress or act like the 20s. 2 of the staff approached our table and said we should be working there. We anticipated this evening and were sincerely disappointed. If you are looking for a true speakeasy experience, go elsewhere.
Server was nice and knowledgeable of menu. Crab cakes were too spicy and veal didn’t have a ton of flavor to it. Overall though it was a pleasant experience and would go back. Drinks were great!
I’ve been here a few times and had good experiences, but this weekend our visit was not so great. We had to flag down our server multiple times to order food and drinks and had to ask for more water 3 times before it was brought to us. Food and drinks were ok. Had a reservation but was a little disappointed to be seated on the stools as I hoped we could have been seated at a booth. Overall not the best experience.
The staff was wonderful and really like the place itself. The food was not very good, but would go back as we enjoyed being there and had a fun night.
You need a password to enter through the bookcase to the speakeasy. The ambience is amazing. Music was a little off from the vibe but overall fun experience and great drinks
Yes this place was awesome, very chill environment. Food was great, and service was nice. Definitely going back!
Very cool entrance. Waiter had exceptional knowledge. Bartender had great selection of specialty drinks, perhaps the best in Richmond
Our first time in this unique little spot! Food was outstanding, it was easy to eat gluten free. The libations list made us excited to try new things! Staff was engaging and accommodating. We will certainly dine again.
