The menu was very interesting and the food tasty. The restaurant is a bit remote but so worth the drive. Our table overlooked the river with a spactacular sunset. The owner/manager was attentive. I will definitely go back when I'm next in Galena.
It was in a beautiful location. Wished that there was some lazy jazz cat music playing in the background while we ate. The service was outstanding and the host came around to the tables to engage in small talk. It was very much appreciated. We will be coming back in the future to stay in the location.
Had a wonderful time celebrating our friend for her upcoming wedding. The entire staff went out of their way to ensure we had a great time. The owner, servers and chef really made an impact on our experience! GREAT customer service- we will definitely be back again!!!
Amazing place to celesta birthday. Great food and beautiful location
Beautiful setting, Gorgeous views, fantastic menu. Owners were very thoughtful in encouraging us to view the sunset. The drive from Galena was scenic. Martini was excellent. The food overall was too salty for our taste, with the exception of the scallops. They were fantastic!
25 Th wedding anniversary
Friendly owner took the time to greet us and thanked us for choosing his establishment. The dinner was amazing. I had whole snapper and my wife had beef Wellington. We're not locals but will definitely go back when in the area.
Possibly the most spectacular dinner we have ever had as a family. First escape since COVID-19, found this reservation only due to open table and had a wonderful dining experience. Food was wonderful. Service exceptional. And grounds were spectacular. Proprietors were lovely people we well. Will definitely dine here again and probably stay at the inn as well. Thank you for a memorable evening.
Honestly, this was one of the best meals I have had in a long time. The filet mignon was amazing!! We also really enjoyed the beet salad and lava cake. Thank you for a great birthday dinner!
Dear anonymous, thank you for your feedback we are delighted that you enjoyed the dinner.
So disappointed in the experience we had. Breakfast was delicious! Dinner was disappointing. Salad was a half head of romaine put on a plate with garlic bread and ceasar dressing dumped on it. Was an extra $12 even though the server said it was included with my meal. My husband's steak was waaay undercooked. We were the only people dining at the time so Im not sure why they rushed his food instead of properly cooking it. His baked potato was also undercooked and everything was swimming in a garlic butter sauce. It took away from the rest of his food. Server never asked him if he wanted another drink after the first round. Seemed like everyone was trying to close early and get out of there. For $140 I was expecting a much better meal. The place itself is amazing and I'm happy we stayed there but the dinner was very lacking unfortunately.
Dear loveshersteak, I am very disappointed to hear that your dinner experience was not up to par. My sincere apologies to you. I wish we had known at the time of the dinner we could have corrected the situation.I will share your comments with both the server and the Chef to prevent this from happening again. I hope you will give us another opportunity in the future.
Great place with lots of potential but just didn't deliver for us. Our server was obviously new but she continued to tell us that she didn't really know much about the menu. They are supposed to be famous for their beef wellington so that's what I ordered. It was overcooked and mediocre at best. Certainly not worth $50. My wife ordered the Kobe beef which was very good and the thick cut seasoned potatoes that came with her dish were fantastic. The wine list is pretty scant for an upscale dining establishment. Great atmosphere and location just not executed all that well.
Dear 944Turbo, I am sorry to hear that your dining experience was sub par. Please accept my apologies. Yes we are famous for the Beef Wellington and your experience is not the norm. I will share your comments with both the Chef and the server. We appreciate your feed back.
This place is a hidden gem right near downtown Galena Illinois. It is a must for anyone looking for breathtaking views, unmatched accommodations, and unparalleled hospitality. It is now our go to place when visiting the Galena area.
Dear DocP thank you for your nice review and we look forward to your next visit.
Absolutely best dining experience in Galena IL!
We loved the food , awesome location and the atmosphere
Exquisite food served in exquisite restaurant
Dear anonymous, thank you for your favorable rating and we are delighted that you enjoyed dinner with us. Please come and visit again.
The food is incredible and made with great attention to detail. I had the 60 day aged ribeye. It was incredibly tender and delicious. My spouse had the Beef Wellington, her favorite and it continued to not disappoint.
This was our second trip to the Goldmoor. First and foremost the owners are simply wonderful people, they truly take the time to meet everyone. If you catch them when they can spend more time with you they will share the history of the establishment as well as themselves.
Now the food, the food is amazing. The plating, the food, the food... Wonderful experience of flavors. A must try in our book.
The staff is fun and knowledgeable a playful group.
Goldmoor restaurant food was very good and filling. Service was great. This was our second visit to the restaurant. We would visit it again.
Food and service was excellent! Restaurant provided a very romantic atmosphere for an early Valentines Day celebration!
We went there once before and it was wonderful, but this time they charged even more for the food, which was subpar for the price, and it was barely even room temperature. We were very, very disappointed this time around, and I do not think we will be returning again. Also, we both became very ill the day after dining there. Not happy with the experience at all. Almost $200 for lukewarm, almost cold food that was absolutely not worth it. Never, ever again.
My wife and I went to celebrate her birthday week. Outstanding service, food was fantastic and they made my wife feel special. Very romantic. Highly recommended.
Delicious food, beautiful location, excellent service and atmosphere
We loved everything about the Goldmoor Inn. Hands down one of the best dining experiences we have had in a very long time. The duck breast with beet puree was amazing and the gnocchi pesto with fall vegetables was delicious. The service was great and the staff was very warm and welcoming. We will no doubt visit Goldmoor Inn in the future. Highly recommend.
It was our first time there. Went on an off day so we had the place practicality to ourselves. Food was good ambience exceptional. We want to definately go back again.
Food was amazing and the ambiance is very quaint. Our server was attentive and we had a wonderful anniversary experience.
Everything with our dinner experience was wonderful. The decor and setting are lovely and contribute to a relaxed, beautiful atmosphere. Food was well-prepared and artfully presented as well as delicious. Chris our waitress was outstanding in every aspect of the service and significantly contributed to a fabulous dining experience. Worth the drive from downtown Galena.
Wonderful atmosphere. This place never disappoints.
We have been to the Goldmoor seven times over the past ten years and have always had the best of dining experiences. Great food, interesting wine and cocktail selections, friendly and prompt service, and unhurried atmosphere with a sunset view of the Mississippi River.
Very nice place, I would strongly recommend this restaurant. The food was excellent, very nice atmosphere and excellent service. My wife had the ribeye and I had the beef Wellington.
Excellent Meal. The chef and his staff are serving some incredible food that would rival Chicago, New York, L.A. We have been frequenting this establishment for many years, my only criticism they need to upgrade the dining area. Same decor, same tables & chairs, same color scheme. The Goldmoor is a unique venue and the food is indeed worth the trek. However the atmosphere just needs a little tweaking to put it on the same level of excellence as the food.
Fantastic dinner. You have to request table in the kitchen. The chef was very entertaining and extremely talented. You’re able to sample sauces while watching your meal being prepared. Can’t wait to get back .
Beautiful location, excellent food, excellent staff and service. Will go back again
We always enjoy our meals at the Goldmoor. However, one of our meals was the Colossal Shrimp which was somewhat disappointing and overpriced. The shrimp were at best medium size. Also, the Beef Wellington is a bit overpriced. We will continue to come back, but this time we did not feel our meals met the value. We did really enjoy the chocolate molten cake that we had for Dessert.
My husband and I were staying at the Goldmoor and had dinner one night at the restaurant. Our server was great! We had a delicious poached pear buratta salad appetizer. I had Kobe Wagyu beef and my husband had the beef Wellington. Both were very good but I think the Wellington beef was a little over cooked. We took the apple tart dessert back to the room at it was delicious!
The service was friendly and welcoming. The food was amazing. We had steak tartare prepared at our table. I had beef Wellington done just right. My dessert was apple strudel. It was beautiful and delicious. The apple slices were formed into a flower and the crust was heaven. I took a picture. It is a very romantic place. Overall, it was worth the price. We really appreciated having this restaurant here, and not having to leave the property. It is out in the country with dark, winding roads. This whole place is top notch. Even the restroom has a porcelain sink with painted prairie flowers on it. This was a special evening in every way. They have weddings there also. I wish I had known about this place when our daughter was getting married.
You don’t have to be staying at the Goldmoor to eat here. It is more like an overall experience than a meal. It reminded me of Sedona. The view is calming. This is one of the very few places that I would give five stars to.
Beyond our expectations! The sunset view of the Mississippi was spectacular, huge wine and cocktail list. The steak tartar made table side was the best. I had eggplant steak and my husband had a delectable chicken dish. Lavender butter with fresh bread. Warm apple crisp with panacata topped off our evening. The atmosphere is elegant. And the chef payed us a visit. I don’t know how it gets better than that. Oh and it’s sll affordable!
As always, we had a great experience at the Goldmoor. The food and service was excellent and we always enjoyed talking to the owner/host, Slobo.
Excellent food. Quaint atmosphere. The owners were on hand to assist with service -- they are charming, to say the least. The menu is uncommonly diverse for the area, and the food was impeccably prepared. We ordered 5-6 different entrees & appetizers. Standouts included Crispy Pork Belly (small plate appetizer), White Peking Duck Breast (entree), the Gnocchi Pesto with Fall Vegetables (entree), and the Beef Wellington. The prices are premium. But when you taste the food, you'll understand why.
A beautiful place for a great meal with a view over the river. Try and get there for sunset
Our party of 5 women celebrating a dear friend's 60th birthday was surprised when we arrived with our own dining room. The owner chatted with us initially and made us feel so very welcomed. Chris, our server was outstanding, very efficient and attentive and so warm and kind. The food was excellent. 3 of our party had the beef wellington which was delicious, 2 of us had the filet. My potato was quite tiny (considering the size of most baked potatoes served in restaurants), however all in all, plenty of food. We shared 2 desserts, a chocolate mousse and a creme' brulette. Both delicious. We were worried it may be too "stuffy" for our fun-loving group, however it was not and we had a wonderful time! It was dark so didn't get to enjoy the view, however the building and front grounds were beautiful and impeccably kept. Wonderful place to celebrate a special occasion.
Beautiful setting. Quiet with a great view of the Mississippi River at sunset. Foie Gras & Beef Wellington were terrific. Steak was cooked perfectly. The Red Snapper was also very good with an ample sized serving. The soup was a very inventive pumpkin ginger apple creation.
The owner greeted us & also thanked us as we departed. Goldmoor is a bit off the beaten path on a dark winding country road. Signage is good so it’s easy to find & worth the drive out of Galena.
