Gola is a hidden jem in Ithaca. They have a seasonal menu of seafood, meats, and vegetarian options that has pleased anyone I’ve taken there. They also make all homemade pastas - SO GOOD. It is slightly pricey from a student standpoint but is overall reasonable given the intimacy of the restaurant and quality of food and service. Definitely a favorite in Ithaca.
This was a disappointing experience. We were placed at a table by the door, so there was an intermittent burst of cold air. The server forgot one of our appetizers and one of our drinks and did not check-in on us regularly. The pasta was undercooked. The octopus and shrimp were mushy. The food lacked flavor. We might go back for appetizers and drinks, but never again for a meal.
It was my third time dining at Gola Osteria. The food and service are excellent! Ambiance is nice, too.
Amazing food. Some of the best Italian ever. And hands down the very best creme brulee I have ever had. My fiance is somewhat of a connoisseur of it and he fell head over heels. Dont ignore their Sunday sauce and homemade spaghetti, at least take it as a side!! Will be going back!
We had another delightful meal, this time to celebrate our anniversary. We went out on a limb and tried different dishes tonight and were both pleased. That said, the star of the show was our appetizer, the caprese with heirloom tomatoes and house-made burrata. What a dish. I'm going to have dreams about that one. We asked for bread to sop up the remaining olive oil and tomato vinaigrette on the plate and recommend you do the same. Our entrees were delightful and tasty, but we both agreed that next time, we'll order the traditional dishes that we crave. I can't wait for ravioli to come back on the menu. We dined on the concrete patio, which was great, save the occasional cars pulling in and out. Despite that, we had a lovely evening, and we can't wait to make another reservation.
Our sever was very knowledgeable and good the food was awesome and the drinks were fantastic I would highly recommend this place for dinner
Gola is always excellent. Lots of menu options. Nice setting and feel totally safe even with COVID. Gola is well managed for our safety.
As always, the food and service were superb. Always my favorite experience.
First restaurant meal since COVID-19, and we were pleasantly surprised. The food and service were exceptional, as always, and although there were new social distancing regulations in place, the staff did everything they could to make the evening comfortable.
We chose Gola for our honeymoon. My husband (a meat-eater) & I (a vegetarian) were able to enjoy a lovely meal with a beautiful view, and a friendly staff. Everything was delicious! A little on the pricey side as far as cost goes, but you won't be disappointed in the flavor!
Great food. Not bad service or ambience but did not match food quality.
The food is always amazingly prepared & served. Sitting outdoors was wonderful!
The service is always great. The food is fresh and perfectly prepared. The parking is a little tricky.
Husband and I visited on a recommendation of authentic Italian cooking. Overall we weren’t overly impressed with the items we ordered. Red sangria was average and garnished with old fruit. The grilled octopus was tender but completely charred black so as there was very little flavor to taste other than burnt. For entrees I had the mussels which were good as long as I didn’t sip too much broth which was incredibly salty and served with more charred bread, hubby had the chicken marsala which was good. The sauce on the spaghetti I was hoping to scream authentic family sugo but, again, was okay but nothing special that I couldn’t get from a can of Paul Newman’s. Best part of the meal was dessert - the tiramisu was excellent, beaten so light and fluffy so that it melted in your mouth.
Our server was good, checked in often and had her mask completely covering her mouth & nose (thank you!!!) and the tables weren’t so packed together that we felt comfortable sitting at the table without our masks on on their outside porch. When we asked if the octopus could be redone without the excess char we were told the cook wouldn’t cook it any other way because that’s how his mom would serve it so the manager had to comp the item rather than appeasing the request which was disappointing - when we travel we purposefully look for restaurants that serve octopus because it’s one of our favorite dishes and know what it should taste like :(
As always, dining at Gola was a wonderful experience. Great service and great food.
Had a lovely anniversary dinner; food was excellent and place was easy to find with parking right nearby. Happy to sit on a terrace with a breeze and feel pretty safe—pandemic protocols were rational and followed strictly. A great experience and we will be back!
We love Gola Osteria so much we got engaged there.
Even during this time of adjustment to socially distanced service and seating, Gola was a joy to visit on every level. The food, the wine, the service is always top notch. Highly recommend! The outdoor (terrace and patio) seating is lovely.
Great find , My wife ordered the lasagna, Myself chicken marsala , Caprese salad for an appetizer. Wow everything was delicious ! Staff A1 , thanks again Kevin W.
A truly remarkable meal featuring delicious local produce and outstanding house-made pasta! We ate on the back patio and felt extremely safe and well taken care of. The food was amazing, the server (Steve) was outstanding and very knowledgeable, and the experience was top notch all around. This is a gem of a place, and I can't recommend it highly enough.
We have not visited Ithaca in four years so it's been a long time since our last time at Gola. But the food was as fabulous as the last time! Innovative menu items, perfectly cooked and nicely presented. We appreciated the effort the restaurant and the staff have made in response to COVID-19. We felt safe and well taken care of. We had a wonderful dinner!
Visiting Ithaca and found this place...liked it so much we went two nights in a row!
Excellent menu choices, especially given the current 'times'. We had a very enjoyable dinner on the deck. The food was delicious. Also had a great bottle of Italian wine!
Food was amazing
Bad beer selection
Waitress not as talkative in describing meals as other waitstaff we witnessed
First time there, definitely going back
Gola was incredibly hospitable and made my girlfriends birthday so special. Favorite restaurant in Ithaca!
Wait and service staff was extremely rude. Uninviting, immediately assumed we were a walk in even though we made reservations in advance. No eye contact, had to wait long to place orders, staff cleared our dishes before we were done eating and without asking. There was still food on our plates. Even though I’m in my early 30s, I look young and older patrons were receiving much more welcoming and cheerful service...hard to not make conclusions from observation.
Fantastic place... excellent specials and attentive waitstaff.
My husband and I for our 10th wedding anniversary. In these pandemic times, we were looking forward to our first night out in 6 months. The food was quite good, but the overall experience was lacking. With fine dining, attention to detail is important, and music is part of the experience. I had a problem with being subjected to Axl Rose wailing on “Welcome to the Jungle” while I enjoyed bucatini and wine. Please consider the whole experience for your diners, we will keep coming back!
The food is always fabulous, and seems to be even better since re-opening. How is that possible? Guess Chef Sam has had time to read more cook books.
The food was very good, we all cleaned our plates. We did not have appetizers because we had some snacks earlier at our hotel. A bit expensive.
It was great to come out and we were sitting outside. Inside was barren. It felt so good. The food was excellent
Lovely spot and service. I think the staff was a bit overwhelmed. The mixed antipasto were delicious. I had the spaghetti with baby clams (vongole). There could have been more clams in my dish but they, the vongole, were the real deal. The tiramisu was a little off but tasty. The fried clams and smelt were succulent. Wines by the glass were good and reasonably priced.
Gola Osteria is a gold mine. Nestled in a commercial residence it has an interesting way to get in which is very appealing. The food is excellent the wait staff is outstanding. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who like things out of the ordinary. Can’t wait to go back.
The service was excellent, setting was relaxing and food exceeded expectations. The salad was so fresh with a combination of flavors that worked so well in the dressing. The risotto appetizer was really delicious. Pasta was so yummy and fresh. Highly recommend this place.
I had a great Dinner with my Friend, our waiter suggested us a few items on the menu. Great suggestions, drinks, apps, main course and desserts were great!!
Everything was delicious, service was great! finding the location was tricky and you need to go through an apartment hallway which can throw you off but once you get to the restaurant its a little hidden world inside that building and is definitely worth it! highly recommend for a special occasion
Fabulous restaurant tucked away in the old Ithaca hospital. A little hard to find but definitely worth the effort. Exceptional service.. The appetizer menu had some very delicious offerings. Grilled octopus and the tripe in Sunday sauce were amazing. Could definitely make a meal out of the awesome variety on the menu. Planning our next trip already.
I would have preferred more pasta , homemade , options on the menu. Also need more quality green options on menu.
Wonderful as udual
We had to cancel a trip to Italy because of the coronavirus and wanted an Italian experience here in Ithaca. The food and ambiance were terrific.
