Since we are setting up our 3rd reservation at Gerard's for our 2 week vacation I would say we are extremely in love with this place!! The food, the service, the atmosphere, and the personal touch is wonderful! If time allows we will most likely be back a 4th time....I still haven't been able to snag the pineapple dessert! Thank you for being our #1!!!
Another great meal at Gerard’s. Chef always does a great all around job with flavors, taste and presentation. Always a wonderful dining experience.
Amazing food, amazing service! Best meal i’ve had in Maui!
This was my 7th or 8th visits to Gerard’s and it was my friend Ray’s first visit. We had a 6pm reservation and we were sat pretty quickly upon arrival. Our server Ryan convinced us to try out the fish of the day and it was absolutely one of the greatest recommendations. We were in the mood for Pinot noir so we didn’t pair our meals with white wine . We looked at the wine list . It was pretty impressive. We started out with Escargo and it tasted fantastic! My friend Ray was so impressed with the ambiance , the taste , and the presentation of our food, he even told his wife about it . They are definitely coming back for an encore experience very soon. Some of the other great entrees I’ve had in the past : Duck Confit; scallops (the meshed potatoes are to die for) and lamb. They are all top notch. If you are ever in Lahaina area, you should definitely give Gerard’s a try. You won’t be disappointed. Until next time...
The entire experience was phenomenal. Best food on the island with quaint atmosphere and excellent service.
Ok dinner. We have been to Gerard's many times and this was our least favorite. 4 of us had a reservation, dined inside. The disco ball light in dining room is inappropriate and bizarre. The food was ok, not spot on. Fois gras portion very small. Lamb undercooked and under seasoned. Nothing seemed at all special.
Great atmosphere and food! Garden dining is special!
Wonderful from the time went entered. The greeting was welcoming and service was very good, the food was some of the best I’ve had on the island. We were pleased that our request to see the Chef was answered and he was so kind and humble about his exquisite cooking skills and presentation. We will make this one of our favorite celebration dinner spots. It was a excellent culinary experience.
Great food. Loved the setting. Had the seared Fois Gras—excellent. It’s amazing to get such great French food in Maui
First and most importantly, we were seated indoors and told that Covid regulations limited capacity to 30%. The place was packed, with only one open table. Did not feel safe with plenty of other diners within 6ft of our table. Our server was great, but the food was overpriced for what you get.
Our food was excellently prepared and presented. The waitstaff was well trained and knowledgeable. The ambience was lovely.
Fantastic food and service. We felt the cost was a terrific value as the food is five star quality. I can’t say enough about the service from the waiter to the Chef visiting the tables.
Always love the personal touch from Gerard himself and the passion of his description of his dishes that he prepared for us 👍👍
Vacationing. Great food and service.
The only issue is that it was a little noise .
As the evening evolved, the noise diminished.
Gerards has consistently good food and service. We had the seared foie gras, escargots, and the opah.
It was awesome
Ambiance was off as far as we could tell. The food and the staff were incredible. The only thing that we didn’t care for was the loud electronic/dance music. Didn’t fit the atmosphere at all. We will definitely return for the great food!
We had a truly spectacular meal at Gerard’s. I can’t believe that we have been coming to Maui for 20 years and that this was our first time at this restaurant. The setting at the Inn is lovely and the food was truly divine. I had a tuna tartar starter that was delicious. I also had the fish which was very flavorful and perfectly cooked. We shared an array of desserts and loved every bite of every dish. They had a very reasonable house rose that we ordered by the bottle and enjoyed very much. Excellent service and very polite servers. Myself and my guests were comparing the quality of the food to Mama’s Fish House and felt it was comparable for a more reasonable price. Definitely worth your time.
A fabulous experience, all around! The food is delicious--true French cuisine in the heart of Lahaina. Gorgeous ambience. Highly recommend the tables in the garden or on the plantation style porch. A true treat. Restaurant feels very safe re covid protocols. Excellent wine list, knowledgable sommelier.
Charming French restaurant with great service and amazing food! Old Lahaina vibes at its best, reminds of New Orleans French Quoter a bit, with beautiful architecture and boho interior ambiance. So close to the front street but a bit of the main touristy path and that’s why is able to preserve the old town charm, a real gem. Wine list is classy and compliments the menu perfectly. French classics on the menu executed beautifully, with reasonable addition of some island favorites like fresh catch, macadamia nuts and lilikoi (passion fruit) as complimentary ingredients in some of the dishes. Plenty of parking across the street. Wonderful for a date night or al fresco dining out with friends. Where l’art de vivre meets the aloha spirit.
Just perfect! The escargot, scallops, and fresh fish was just outstanding. The restaurant was stunning. The wait staff impeccable!
We came here two nights in a row during our stay on Maui, and even got to meet the chef on the second night.
Incredible, incredible food!! Fresh fish, amazingly flavorful sauces and creative combinations.
The drinks were great.
The first night, we had the best waiter ever. Younger, local gentleman with glasses that knew the menu and area inside and out, and great insights to the food and how/why selections were made. He was a huge reason we went back the second night. However, the second night we had a different waiter that seemed annoyed to be there, and not nearly as friendly or knowledgeable. If we had him as a waiter the first night, we would not have returned. Taller guy in his early 40’s maybe, tattoo on his left arm.
However, food was consistent and fantastic and would return!
My birthday dinner was at Gerard's in Lahaina. I would call the place "French Colonial" with the Pandora music of Booty Swing setting the 1920's tone. Promptly seated on the porch with prompt service. We dined early to avoid the impending crowd. Pandemic restrictions did not allow blended drinks. Wonderful appetizers (foie gras medallions and ahi tuna carpaccio) and delightful entrees (Hawaiian Snapper and Pork Tenderloins accompanied by interesting sides and sauces). Dessert was a disappointment-- Dusty Road, which is a chocolate, vanilla and caramel dessert dusted with cocoa and whipped cream. Looks wonderful, but absolutely without flavor. Not perfect, but an overall wonderful experience.
Once again, the experience at Gerard’s was top-notch!
We were so happy to discover that Gerard’s reopened in these difficult times.
Gerard’s cuisine is by far the best on Maui, everything we had was delicious and the service was outstanding, what a treat, we will be back as soon as possible!
We had a wonderful meal at Gerard’s. The food was excellent. The server was attentive, and the table we were at on the Lanai was lovely. We would strongly recommend dining at this restaurant.
Food is only ordinary. Very Slow Service!! Delivered bread with no bread saucer. Waiter did not notice my waving my hand for Service although only 1 table away. I had to actually stand up to ask for check and finally went to to the register to pay for my check. THEN- I got a message from Open Table Reservations that said Gerard’s reported me as a No Show!!!😳 Do yourself a favor and give your money to another restaurant if you want much better food and much better service!
Having eaten at Gerard’s 3-4 times in the past, my wife and I dined here on Valentine’s Day in 2021. It was under a prix fixe menu for the special occasion ($125/person, which included a glass of champagne). Comments:
Starter: blinis (mini pancakes) with caviar and an oyster. Was very bland, surprisingly.
Appetizer: lobster Mac and cheese (delicious!) and arugula salad (dressed only with oil - needed an acid such as vinegar) and pear wedges.
Main: beef en croute (like Wellington), with spinach, whipped potatoes, and puréed cauliflower. The beef was excellent, sides were okay but not great.
Dessert: chocolate cake slice, great presentation with a heart shape, ice cream, and strawberry purée. Excellent flavor.
So the food was generally excellent, albeit with some exceptions that were bland.
Service was excellent - friendly as always.
Would not return!
Poor quality meal, very expensive.
Wedding dinner. Terrible. We left early but we still paid and they took our points and wrote us as a no show
My fiancée and I went to Gerard’s for Valentines Day while on a visit to Maui. Menu was prix fixe. Now my (and likely your) expectation on prix fixe for any special occasion is that every course should be excellent and dialed in. Unfortunately what we ate on Valentines Day was poor to average. Nobody should be eating a $325 meal ($250 + taxes + tip) and coming away with this experience.
The presentation and handling of the caviar was poor at best. The Kusshi oyster was inedible. The lobster Mac and cheese was over cooked and tasted and looked like cafeteria food. The “salad” was a handful of arugula served with a spritz of olive oil and 2 slices of Japanese pear. The main course was a beef Wellington slathered with Bernaise. Once the Bernaise was scraped off, I was able to taste the meal and can say that the meat was decently prepared and the crust was flaky and tasty.
And if not for the absurdly steep price I probably wouldn’t have even written this review, but I felt it was worth penning something to at least give others a *very fair* opinion on Gerard’s. Consider and compare that we went to Merriman’s the night before, sat on the waterfront, and had an impeccable prix fixe that cost 40% less than Gerard’s. Poor value proposition would be underselling the disappointment.
And of course we didn’t get to dessert because we were seated outside, at a table with a place for an umbrella but no actual umbrella, so when it rained - because we are in Maui after all - we got wet. I am not a meteorologist, but I can tell you with some certainty that I knew it would rain that day. Because we were in Maui and I looked at the weather app on my phone twice.
But at least the server was nice.
We went to Gerard's for Valentine day. It was fabulous. it was a 4 course fix-price menu. The wine was tremendous, a 2018 Rombauer Chardonnay, the appetizer and salad were great, but for me the beef tenderloin was the smoothest, most tender ever. I had a Duckhorn Merlot with it that matched perfectly. Desert was also perfect with Chocolate and Gerard made ice cream with the Merlot. Definitely the place to go for a romantic, great meal. Service was good and virus distancing and masks were everywhere.
Best in West side Maui.
Never had a bad meal at Gerard's. Came here day before Valentine's Day because we wanted access to the full menu. Ordered our favorites - puff pastry with mushrooms, fish special (ono) with carrot/potato puree and asparagus and crème caramel for dessert. Service was impeccable as usual. Sat at an outside table on the porch on a perfect evening. Highly recommended.
We love French food and have dined at many French restaurants all over the country. This is not a French restaurant. There were a couple of French inspired dishes on the menu. We ordered the escargot and it was okay. There wasn’t French bread served with it so that was disappointing. My husband ordered the Ahi tuna (the special) It was overcooked. I ordered the filet and it was not a great piece of beef. It was cooked appropriately but it was served with a flavorless bordelaise sauce. The frites were disgusting. Full of oil and obviously frozen. They also had a very small and unimpressive wine list. The service was very mediocre. Our server had an attitude and seemed annoyed. We won’t dine at Gerard’s again when visiting Maui.
An excellent location and setting for a more private dining experience. Yes for a romantic evening if needed. It a beach restaurant or for a casual dining. Classic French in all aspects. Good wine selection. Well prepared courses.
I was very disappointed in the overall experience. The wine list was old dirty had spelling errors and contained either really low quality wine over priced or super expensive bottles (400$+). The scallops were amazing however our champagne was served hot and the server spilled a glass at least of it while serving and didn’t replace. The fish special was over cooked and tough. I will never go back, it was certainly not worth the money.
We had a wonderful time at Gerards. Our server John was fun and efficient. Mahi was a hit, as was the chicken. Enjoyed having the private room.
When the weather is fine a table on the lawn as mine! Same great menu as always, only place on maui for snails. I prefer the ahi tartare.
Amazing food and service as always! Gerards will forever be one of my favorite restaurants on island. Can't wait to dine again soon!
