Garland Ratings and Reviews
This is one of my favorite restaurants in the US! I brought a friend visiting from Seattle and he said the same thing. Extraordinary, creative, delicious cuisine. Local, beautiful ingredients. James Beard semi-finalist chef who works magic with herbs, spices, and quality ingredients. A+
This is a great spot. The food was outstanding (highly recommend the lamb sausage) and the atmosphere is comfortable and relatively quiet. Some fun signature cocktails and a couple of good mocktails for the underage set. Our server was a little inattentive, but she got some help from the other staff. It certainly won't dissuade us from going back.
Shrimp was over cooked, charred, and completely unseasoned. Our tteokbokki was undercooked. Our seating was awkwardly positioned with tables too small to accommodate plates. We were really excited to go to Garland and had planned ahead. We were heavily underwhelmed. Actually felt like throwing money away. Waitstaff was very pleasant. Only redeeming quality.
My husband and I ate here before attending a show at the Lincoln Theater. We ordered 4 shared plates which were all excellent! The Moroccan hummus and eggplant were our favorites. The candy dessert sampler was fun and different. Took awhile for the food to come out (3 shared plates came first and another followed later) but this was fine since we had a lot of time before the show (so allow enough time between your reservation and your other events for the night).
Once again a home run. We first tried Garland on my wife's birthday last year and have been back several times since then. We making the reservation I indicated it was my wife's birthday. I received a phone call the morning of confirming my reservation, asking about any special dietary concerns etc. Upon arriving we were promptly seated and greeted with a complimentary glass of sparkling wine. Our server let us know the specials. We had the shishito peppers and the head on shrimp, along with red drum fish for our entree. Everything was absolutely out of this world. The education that the staff gives on food prep, and how to properly enjoy is very informative. Upon exiting we were greeted by Paul, one of the owners who talked to us for several minutes. This is such a great place. I can't recommend more highly.
The food was fantastic, but the service was terrible. We were seat at some weird table by the waiting area when there were clearly other better suited, atmosphere appropriate tables for two at the other parts of the restaurant. It felt like we were a burden for being there so they shoved into a crappy space and avoided us at all cost.
We really enjoyed everything we had at Garland! The drinks were good and we split 3 small plates- the Moroccan hummus, the scallops, and the cauliflower. Each was so good and flavorful! We ended by sharing a chocolate/caramel mouse dessert that was heavenly. We left feeling full but not stuffed. Just perfect!
Dined there for lunch on our first visit; the appetizer hummus was superb and the chicken curry entree was an exceptional mixture and balance of very flavorful ingredients. Our server was quite sincere in insuring that our dining experience would be most enjoyable. This is an easy review --- just go there --- we're glad we did, and we'll definitely return.
The food was great! Seems very authentic and different then what I am used in Asian food.
There was a group of ladies on a big table what I think made the restaurant unusually loud.
Our waitress seemed to be new and shy - no "hey how are you" or "how was the dinner" - host and other waiters were great and were able to explain the details and how to eat for the the meals.
We will return for sure!
Unusual, very tasty, mostly Asian food. Our only disappointment was that the octopus is no longer on the menu -- we were really looking forward to that. Small wines by the glass list, but interesting choices, and it was fun to try wines we'd never had before. We've visited Garland's several times and we'll be going back.
Good hostess. Everything else was unacceptable. Food was less than mediocre for all four of us. It looks like chef has no idea what he is doing. We didn't order a dessert based on appetizers and main courses we had. Table service was terrible right until the point when it was time for a check. Wine was excellent and wine/cocktail list looks interesting. Non of us are coming back. I can't recommend dinning at Garland.
Garland was fantastic. Their customer service was superb. The chef was very accommodating to my wife and I with dietary restrictions and even went above and beyond to split a dish for us to meet those needs. This action was done on their own without request. Absolutely top notch service, not to mention the food is amazing. This restaurant has made it on to my list of must haves when going to downtown Raleigh for dinner before a show or event. Bravo!
We went there for my boss's birthday! The food was great but it was a bit loud. It was hard to have a conversation. The service was good until someone forgot to bring my 2nd cocktail. Accidents happen and overall the food experience was fabulous!
Amazing food and atmosphere. It's easy to see the owners passion for a quality dining experience in ever meal. The flavors are simply wonderful. The owners stopped by several times to ask us how our meal tasted and how well we were served. This will be a place we frequent often downtown. Thanks to everyone at Garland that made our meal such a memorable dining experience.
Parts of our dinner were excellent. We had the ribeye noodle dish and the local fish as our main dishes. Both were delicious. As appetizers we had the cauliflower and scallops. The scallops were extremely small and we all felt extremely overpriced. Our server offered no extra information to help us throughout the night but was pleasant enough. Our visit isn't a deal breaker but I hope some small improvements for next time come through.
