Biggest disappointment ever!!! Don't eat here!!!My wife and I stayed in a cottage at Sycamore resort in 2015. This restaurant is at the resort. The food was sublime, so delicious that it was unforgettable. I had the duck, my wife had short ribs, and we both had the mushroom and barley soup, so creamy and succulent. Service Great.
THIS TIME: Oct 24, 2021 WAS LOUSY. The mushroom appetizer and brussel sprout appetizer were both tasteless and cold. The rib eye steaks were chewy Luke warm and had to saw through them with a sharp steak knife. A lot of thick fat on the edges. They were more like medium rare instead of medium like we asked for. They had a thick slice of butter on top that never even melted because the meat was not hot. Definitely not a $48 steak each. Service left a lot to be desired as well. We will try to track down where the original chef moved to.
Peaceful outdoor patio dining. Excellent prompt service. Tasty, generous sized meals and varied menu. I had crab Benedict and mocha-latte.
We love the Garden for special celebrations. The food is always delicious and the service exemplary. Thank you.
Our 30th wedding anniversary.
The food it was so good and service too. Definitely recommend it.
This was my first time at Gardens. It was ok. Sat outside to keep safe and our heater only worked half the time. Luckily it was not too cold. The smell of sulfur did not mix well with the food. The drink and dessert were pretty good. I would say I was....whelmed.
It took over an hour for any food to be served
The food was very good and the staff was very friendly.
The Warm Beet salad was delicious as were the Scallops. Generous protions
Great food! I had steak and it was so tender and flavorful. Husband had scallops and was equally satisfied.
To srat: only one vegetarian option. Roasted veggie sandwich: "toast" was cold.;Eggplant was near raw. Zucchini was near raw/a woodly sharp stick of some sort was in it.. (and I do not mean a lovely flavored al dente style..tasteless..no seasoning). To replace , we ordered the tomato soup-which they were out of...Only goo dthing was the manager comped the meal. The freis that came with sandwich were edible.
It was overall amazing and we will be returning in the future!
I ordered a medium rare steak and got a medium cooked steak. My baked potato wasn't fully cooked. Prices are high for what you get.
We had a wonderful experience- we sat out on the patio and had the steak and fried chicken. Everything was delicious and our server Dana was awesome. We liked it so much we are going to go back in a couple of days! Get there early to walk around the gorgeous gardens.
Anniversary dinner. Time to get pampered. Asked for steak MR to Rare. Came Well Done. Didn’t want to be a princess but was paying 48 bucks for it, so put on my tiara and told our waitress. She offered to have another one cooked, but I judged it the best for all parties involved to just deal with it - not have them waste it, not have my wife eat alone while I wait another 15 plus. So I went to work sawing into the tough little guy, because after all, meat is meat, and I figured our waitress would take a cocktail off the tab for them not having to cook up another one. The usual truce, right? Instead we get more or less ghosted the rest of the meal and feel like pariahs. After we finish, waitress brings the tab unprompted and says “So no desert then”, as if me complaining about a poorly cooked, expensive steak lost us all rights to chill and enjoy ourselves, have another drink. Bill is full charge, nothing removed or discounted. We bail, a little bummed and uncomfortable, so I ask to talk with the manager. Nice guy, tried to level with him, had a friendly, constructive chat. Said he’d make sure we’d get a free breakfast entree in the morning. Wake up, get room service delivery for a decent enough, dry breakfast sandwich with unseasoned hash on the side. Either way, nice gesture. But when we check-out the breakfast is on our bill. Maybe the manager’s message to comp it got lost somewhere down the line, who knows. Either way, waited for 10 minutes while the restaurant and front desk got my story straight and worked at taking it off the bill. Stood there watching an employee cut hundreds of “Happy Anniversary” fliers like the one we found in our room. A fitting metaphor. Over-cooked steaks and less-than-pro service happens and is whatever. You can rally. Feeling like no one really gives a damn though, and seeing proof of it, that’s different.
ASHLEY OUR SERVER WAS AMAZING AND THE FOOD UNBELIEVABLE
First time going and dining at gardens of Avila restaurant and I loved it. We stayed at the sycamore springs resort and went to try the restaurant and did not disappoint at all. 100% recommended.
Expect better food quality and service… wouldn’t give a second try!
Unfortunately we did not have a good experience here. The food was really bad not worth the value at all
Service was just ok. Would not recommend this restaurant. We had cone here 10 plus years ago and it was excellent we were expecting same service and same delicious food and this time it was absolutely disastrous.
This place us OK. The watermelon salad was terrific. The scallops with risotto was OK and the halibut special was uninspired. The wine selection, especially by the glass is extremely limited. The hostess and waitress were really very good.
My wife ordered the scallop risotto which was outstanding. I ordered the Fried chicken which was just a big slab of matted down chicken with sooooooo much batter that you couldn't taste any chicken. The picture looks like it is 3 or 4 separate pieces of chicken. The servers were very inattentive and rarely checked to see if we needed anything. We are local so I'm sure I will give them another shot but we shall see. Also be very careful when you walk to your table though./.. somehow they have a virus problem ONLY when walking to your table and no virus problem when you sit down. Don't worry about the fact that the servers carry the food and drinks to you with no gloves or anything else because you must be in the safe place when seated. Again... be very very careful when standing as the virus there is very sophisticated. If you happen to see the virus take your seat immediately!
Came to eat prior to our massage. Was expecting more. Place was right off lobby. Was told for outside dining that there were lots of bees, so that remark kept us dining inside. Felt our server was annoyed by being at work. Not very friendly and felt rushed. Do NOT order the crab Benedict. It was fishy, dark colored, load with a bunch of fillers (tomatoes, onion, green dill) not sure and crab sorry to say tasted like can crab. And wasn’t like a crab cake more like crab tuna. My husband got chorizo that still had the casing on it making it hard to eat. Won’t be back for the restaurant at all.
I had the 16 oz rib eye steak. It was wonderful but bigger than I imagined. The potatoes and vegetables were also very good. I would order it again.
They must have a visiting chef the food had no taste, tough, wilted, the burata half frozen, salmon cold and mushy in the center…….gross
Waiter was non present. Food was over priced and bleh.
Our server was excellent
Thought more of a garden setting.
Salad was ok, needed more greens
Beets were delicious however not a substantial salad.
Husband loved his fried chicken sandwich
Key lime pie was delicious and so sweet of server to bring for birthday celebration.
They have an amazing opportunity for a lovely dining experience. There was no soft, nice background music, our evening waitress did not remember to bring refill of water. Finally, we found a hair wrapped up in our fried mushrooms. They dealt with it well by removing it from bill, but not good.
Very lovely and very delicious. Kind servers. Great date night at a wonderful retreat.
Overall subpar, better restaurants in slo. Just your average hotel food and is overpriced
Server was great. Food was excellent. Had some different takes on traditional food or lunch items. Flavors combinations were very good. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try a different take on familiar foods. Being a foodie myself it was a great lunch
Great place, fantastic food. Wonderful place to celebrate our anniversary.
Our hostess Madeline and server were very attentive, friendly and profesional. Made the evening so much better. The atmosphere in the restaurant is more modern and clean that the resort which is a bit outdated and looks worn out on the outside. The food was very good, drinks also. In all, we had a very pleasant date night.
We loved the hash browns. Never had them made that way.
This is a lovely little setting for the right kind of couple. Very adequate meals, not for the true foodie, but nice tasty basics. There is a hint of sulfur in the air from the hot springs, so if that is ok it will be quite lovely.
Food was excellent! Staff friendly! Drinks on point!
We went by our server, Dana P.'s recommendations. My husband and I tried four dishes. The root and house salads were fresh and delicious. The fried oyster mushrooms were superb. The last dish was the ravioli. It was also very tasty. They were all excellent. Thank you, Chef!
Beautiful evening. Sat out back on their patio by the hillside. Lovely patio lights, heaters for the chilly summer air. Our server, Moses, was very attentive to all our needs. Lovely way to end our vacation.
Reservations were easy. Wait service was excellent. Food absolutely delicious.
Delicious food in a relaxing atmosphere
Very Nice with great food. Service was top notch.
