Drinks were a bit overpriced, Food was great, server was excellent. Would go again for sure.
Great whiskey drinks and options. Food was great, but overpriced. Enjoyed the atmosphere, but space is a little tight for the amount of tables they seat.
Four of us out for going away celebration for coworker. Two of us ordered rib eye medium rare. Were served a filet and a well done ribeye. When we got the correct steaks, they weren’t very good and did not seem to be of the quality of previous meals here. About $400 later we were not even comped a desert.
The food was great...however, the bourbon selection was weak at best.
After reviewing the lengthy bourbon list, selections were made with anticipation of enjoying some tasty brown water. The anticipation was dashed when the server returned and informed us that they were out of the bourbon. That was okay, for the list was long and replacements were selected...to find that those bourbons were out as well. The server mentioned that they had Blanton’s...wow, Blanton’s sounds great...ordered it...but again the server returned stating they were out of that too. The server started to mention other bourbons to consider...but mentioned a few basic everyday bourbons they were out of...Woodford Reserve being one. ReallY...out of Woodford? We jokingly offered to run to the local grocery store to get a bottle, for It had turned comical. The Gamlin Whiskey House, a restaurant recommended for their bourbon/whiskey selection, didn’t have much bourbon / whiskey. I think they should change the name to Gamlin House.
On a positive note, the food was great...shrimp and grits, wedge salad, strip steak, the barramundi special, brussel sprouts...all were top notch.
Check it out, but call ahead to make sure they can support their name...meaning that they have “whiskey” (bourbon).
Fantastic service. Excellent food. Amazing drinks. Would visit again when back in town.
I had been wanting to try Gamlin Whiskey House for some time. When the opportunity came up to meet a friend for brunch in the CWE, I made a reservation at Gamlin. I have to say, I was a bit disappointed. Despite having a reservation, we still had to wait several minutes for a table................and over 1/2 the restaurant was empty. I am guessing they were not adequately staffed. While the menu had several interesting options, I found that most of the brunch choices were pretty pricey. I ordered a Bloody Mary, spicy, which came without a salted nor spiced rim, no garnish, and there was no spice that I could detect except maybe some pepper. My friend and I ordered the Surf & Turf omelet and the chicken and waffles and split both entrees. The waitress told us she would split them for us, but she didn't. Nor did she bring an extra plate. But no big deal. The omelet was unique in its combination of chorizo, mushrooms and shrimp, but it was greasy and hard like a diner omelet. The chicken and waffles were made with frozen, breaded chicken cutlets that had freezer burn. The waffle also may have been frozen as it did not taste fresh but stale. The waitress never came back to ask us how everything was or if we wanted another drink, or I would have mentioned these things to her. Overall, we were quite disappointed.
Our service was exceptional and we plan to return in the future.
Wow! What a fantastic find in St. Louis. We went for brunch on Saturday of Mardi Gras weekend and the place wasn’t crowded at all! Food was to die for, and great service and ambience too. You can’t beat $5 mimosas!
we were seated, and not given water or attended to for quite a while, until a server finally wandered over and asked if we had been helped. It was not busy at all, so a little confusing and off-putting. Also, server was not very attentive --- didn't swing by to check on us after food arrived. I had finished my cocktail, and would have ordered another one, but he didn't check on us until after we had finished meal.
I am new to St. Louis, and would try this place again, but after this experience, I will definitely be trying a different restaurant or two before returning.
I would definitely recommend anyone for the drinks at this establishment. As far as the food goes for the price that you pay it’s not worth it. The food was bland with no taste what so ever.
My birthday dinner was amazing. I felt like our waitress (Danielle) was overwhelmed at times but she was amazing. The food and drinks were all great!
Great food and great drinks! Perfect for a date night or a business dinner.
I really wanted to like this place. On the positive side, the food was good and we enjoyed the atmosphere. But the fact that we chose this place because it is a “whiskey” house and the first 7 brands my husband requested the bar did not have in stock. He finally just told the server to surprise us, but he never even got this until a half hour after we arrived. He didn’t want to try anything else in fear we would be waiting all night to get it. Pretty disappointing.
For the price point of this restaurant I would expect the staff to be dressed nicer than jeans and a T-shirt. Food was good nothing special I had expected better. The drinks were amazing!
Great meal! Everything was fabulous. My son who turned 23 that day loved it.
Great atmosphere for a date or group of people. The service and food were great. I didn’t drink but my girlfriend said the cocktails are excellent
Great whiskey selection! Awesome food and service!
Although the food and drinks were great, we had a somewhat negative experience with the service. Host was cold and unwelcoming. After being seated, it was 10 minutes before our waitress greeted us and gave us a drink menu. She was very courteous, but it seemed like the staff was disorganized that evening. Furthermore, another one of the waiters kept bumping into each of our chairs throughout our dining experience, without apologizing or showing any courtesy. Hopefully it was just an off night for the restaurant and didn’t reflect the typical experience for diners.
We both ordered the Eggs Benedict. They came out absolutely perfect. My only complaint is that was all that was on the plate. No fruit or side of any kind, not even a garnish. It would have benefited from another flavor. Also the plate was overly large for just the two muffins.
I was extremely disappointed in the whiskey selection. For an establishment that is specifically marketing whiskey drinkers, they failed to deliver. No Pappy 15, 20, or 23. Only 2 BTAC and no E.H. Taylor special releases. Also, so significant age statement bourbons of any brand.
The bartender (I will call her that because she was standing behind the bar) was not al all knowledgeable about whiskey. She insisted I should try the “Pappy” 12 yr for $65 (1.5 oz pour).
The one pour I did get (Booker’s 2018-01) came in a non-whiskey glass. When I asked for a Glencarin or Bourbon Trail glass, the bartender told me she didn’t know what I was asking for.
The food was okay. Nobody in my party ordered a steak, but I suspect if we did we would have liked the food more. They seemed to put the most effort into their steaks, and they looked great on other people’s plates.
Bottom line is the whiskey selection was terrible and the staff was not knowledgeable in whiskey. I will absolutely not go back and recommend anyone else looking for a great whiskey place to steer clear.
Beautiful drinks, ambiance and delicious food make Gamlin the go-to spot in St. Louis.
Great food, drinks and service. I consider it my go to nice place to eat.
Our server, Bryanna, was outstanding. I recommend asking for her!
Great whiskey list, but a mediocre steak for the $50 price tag.
It was great. Had the opportunity to try a few different whiskeys and the food was unbelievable!
Great craft cocktails
Great cocktails, great food and awesome service! It was an awesome date!
One of our favorite spots for brunch. The Hangover breakfast sandwich is the best!
Awesome Meal and Service - Julie helped us and did a great job! Thank you!
Wonderful food! Sea bass was amazing as were the toasted ravioli!
We have eaten at this location about a year ago and the food then was much better. I had the chicken fried chicken meal and it was over cooked lacked flavor and was way over priced for what I received. I could go to CrackerBarrel and gotten a much more flavorful meal for less than half of the cost. We won’t be returning
Good waitress. Way too expensive for what we ordered.
Great food great service!
Great location, great atmosphere.
Food and service was great -- rather expensive tho
Mark our waiter was very kind and polite. He answered our questions kindly and accurately. Best steak around!
Just trying out a new place. The service overall was decent. The food was good. Ambiance was awesome though!
Excellent food. Very accommodating staff and excellent service.
The food was very good and the service was outstanding
Very expensive for mediocre food. Watery creamed spinach, dry steak, flavorless salad.
