Love this is place. Everyone should come here. One of my destinations when I am in Williamsburg, Va.
The staff was professional and efficient. We were disappointed to only have the brunch menu as an option when we visited on Sunday. It was very limited (and somewhat boring), especially for the vegetarians in the group. Having additional choices such as tacos, pasta, or quiche would have enhanced the experience. That being said, the food was average, at best; there was nothing exciting or memorable. The timing was also awkward; our appetizer arrived at the same time as our entrees.
The overall charm of the venue makes it a nice place to bring out of town guests.
Wait staff did a great job in social distancing. Staff was very attentive, wore a face mask the entire time. I noticed that when a party left, they sprayed and wiped all surfaces of the tables and the chairs.
We sat outside near the “bussing table”!! Battled about 40 to 50 flies and biting insects!! Not pleasant.
Lovely outdoor atmosphere, personable & attentive server
The only redeeming quality about our experience was the pretty outdoor patio minus the massive amount of flies swarming us as we ate. Was looking forward to treating my family to a wonderful experience based on my last trip here. Unfortunately, it was a terrible first impression for them. It started off great, but it went downhill after that. Our server addressed us maybe four times- we never had water, our wine glasses were empty, it took an hour and fifteen minutes for our food to be served which was 45 minutes after our kids had already finished, and to top it off, our food was COLD. The excuse was “large parties”. Pretty sure this is a wedding venue so they should be used to this. If a restaurant was big on customer service, something would have been done to redeem the experience early on. An offer was made to “make it better” only after we had to get up and find someone to take our credit card, and wait another 10 minutes for someone to pay attention to pay, which by then was way too late. We are pretty easy going and have eaten at some of the best restaurants in the country. It should not take 2 hours to eat lunch and spend $150 doing so. I’ve done 8 course meals that were faster than the subpar two courses we experienced.
Beautiful setting and great food! Staff always friendly. Need reservations though
Wonderful food, location and service. What else is there to say :-)
As usual the Gabriel Archer Tavern did not disappoint. Service was excellent, wine was excellent and food was delicious. The restaurant was clean and inviting. Our waitress Charlotte was simply the best.
Could not have been more delightful! We sat on the patio under the wisteria vines and consumed delicious food (cucumber-cantaloupe gazpacho! frozen chocolate mousse!) and refreshing local beverages (hard cider and oatmeal stout) and felt like we were in heaven.
Wonderful brunch menu with celicious specials, excellent service. The outdoor arbor is perfect when you want to eat outdoors.
This was only the second time we ate at the Tavern, we loved it both times. First for dinner, which was very pleasant, staff was wonderful, food very good. Lunch was very nice as well, we will definitely go there again.
Ceasar salad was a disappointment, Chicken dry, Berger very good as was the pasta and ham salad sandwich. Wine flights had good poor an worth the cost
We had high expectations for the food and it was ok. The place is very nice and our waiters were great!
So lovely out on the patio! Great food too
The food was delicious, excellent chef!! and the attention of the waiters was great! highly recommended this beautiful place.
If you like an excellent varied cuisine, attentive service and a quaint atmosphere Gabriel Archer's Tavern is an great choice for you! My favorite is entree rock fish which was prepared to perfection. My wife enjoyed her filet mignon. Our salads were delicious. Local raw oysters were another good appetizer selection. Lava cake for dessert was outstanding. The perfect accompaniment was a bottle of chardonnay from Williamsburg Winery.
We will return to the tavern again in the near future.
Great lunch and wine! Sat outside.
I brought my Aunt (step mother's sister) and her friend for dinner. My aunt's maiden name is Archer. Gabriel Archer is her 9th great uncle. She had never been to the Tavern and was thrilled to dine there. Everyone's food was superb and the service was great.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary tonight and Jenna was very knowledgeable and friendly! She and all the other staff did a fantastic job! Food was lovely! We enjoyed our dinner and will definitely be back!
Awesome food and service - of course you have to try the wine
great food... reasonable price... accommodating cheerful staff.
Lovely experience as always.
We felt safe from COVID. The staff were superb. The food was splendid. We could not have asked for a more perfect birthday dinner celebration.
Our dinner was in celebration of our 40th wedding anniversary. It was a great experience. We enjoyed the food and the wine. Kevin, our server, also made our evening special with his attentiveness and complimentary champagne.
The website and menu oversold what was delivered. It is a tahirt and shorts type of place and the food is on par with Chilis, applebees, etc. it would have been ok if the food was out of this world..but now understand why there were so many reservations available.
I introduced a friend to the Winery as I use to come while vacationing in Williamsburg. Just as good as it was all those year before. We will come again from Richmond. It was excellent!
We chose to eat outside even though it was very warm. Sadly we were overwhelmed by flies...we asked it there was a candle or some deterrent to put on the table but apparently thee was nothing to be had.
the service was excellent and the food as always was good, but the flies spoiled our time.
Wonderful location, excellent food, and really nice service during the times of Covid. I felt like the staff was taking care of us when times like this are hard. Would 100% go back for dinner again, though their lunch is spot on.
It was extremely noisy; the crab cakes, that have always been amazingly great were terrible this time. Our server was very attentive and very pleasant. This was the one place we could always count on a great Baltimore style crab cake and now we’ll have to find another place to enjoy them.
We love eating here. The food and wine are good, service is top notch.
Great food and service. We were even able to sample a few other wines at the table.
Very good. Great service. Dessert was a little slow coming out,but enjoyed it.
Wonderful food and the ambiance was good! We love to eat here when we are in town.
We arrived a bit early and no problem being seated right away on the patio. Our server was so helpful answering questions about the menu and telling about all the specials.
She was so pleasant and delightful. She is truly a huge asset to the restaurant.
Received a delicious sparkling wine in celebration of my birthday. Unfortunately can't recall her name at the moment, but she was from Hampton. Overall a delicious meal and wonderful dining experience.
A nice fresh menu. Great effort to accommodate patrons during social distancing. Take some time for relaxing dining.
Dinner was incredible! Our server was pleasant and hospitable-she offered wine tastings and gave a great recommendations. The environment is casual and relaxed. We look forward to our next visit!
Absolutely lovely experience. The staff are extremely friendly and hospitable. We ate there multiple times throughout the weekend and were satisfied each time. The caprese sandwich is a must!
Excellent food. Very quiet due to the time we visited (7 pm) and COVID separation. Service was wonderful and it was a beautiful location to have a wonderful dinner.
