About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Great for outdoor dining
  • Great for fine wines
The Gabriel Archer Tavern was built in 1987 on footprints of an old farm shed. Today, its mission is to provide a memorable farm-to-table dining experience that's both delicious and nourishing.

In addition to a half-acre produce garden and greenhouse on site where lettuces and herbs will be grown, our chef works hard to find local farmers as partners in producing a menu oriented towards fresh and seasonal specialties.

Our wide variety of fresh selections from our unique menu will guarantee that everyone in your party leaves with a smile.

They close between lunch and dinner, however they don’t leave enough time between the last lunch reservation and when they close. This can leave diners feeling rushed out the door.

This was not what we expected. With few people in the restaurant the volume was loud and felt like a pub more than a dining experience. The food was good, not great, but few gluten free options, which was a problem for us. The wine pairing was good and enjoyable. We would go back with different expectations.

Warwemelon gazpacho was tasty though a bit thin; a bit more chunky might help the texture. Turkey and Brie is always good and vinegarette on spinach salad was spot on. Salad also had a generous amount of bacon, avocado and pears rounding it out. Service was a bit spotty but very personable when she was with us. Sat under the arbor, the only way to truly enjoy this place!

Wonderful wine, great service and good food. The staff was very accommodating. Helped set a special table for our three grandchildren. Our server was excellent. We will make this a stop each time we visit Williamsburg.

Great location, beautiful views. Turkey Brie Sandwich was great, great baguette. Service efficient, hostess delightful. My husbands toast was cold and his eggs were over- cooked but the home fries were great, suggested pairings were tasty, desserts were delicious. Noisy while we were there it it was the brunch crowd “loud talkers”. For handicapped access there is a side door.

Seated in the brick-floored indoor porch area. Busy lunchtime on a Sunday. Noise level was excruciating. Food and service were very good, but meal ruined by extreme noise. Suggest only dine on the outdoor Wisteria covered terrace.

Wonderful service. Delicious food and wine-the charcuterie board, crab cakes, paired with the viognier were great. Staff ensured I got a window table. Everyone was so kind and cheery.

We started the afternoon with some wine flights in their tasting room - always good experience trying different years and vintages. We then proceeded to the dining room - Alexandria was our wonderfully delightful, courteous and professional server who helped us with some additional tastings and meal recommendations. Between the 4 of us, we had the Hangar Steak; 2 orders of the Mussels; Mixed Salads; and Key Lime Creme Brûlée. Enjoyed some more of the 2021 Wessex Hundred Petit Verdot and the Gabriel Archer Reserve 2021 with dinner! Great location - highly recommend!

Food and service were amazing! The duck confit is spectacular. The only issues were with the wine selections, not sure why all the WW wines are not available in the restaurant, and with the new points system they advertised two months ago to wine club members but still isn't functional in the restaurant. Those items are very frustrating.
