Executive Chef Susan Delbert offers up New American cuisine in a place where famous and newsworthy persons aren't just autographed pictures on the wall, they are probably speaking in the next room! Service was perfect: timely, responsive, but invisible. Recommendations offered if requested only. Food was of the highest quality. My wife had the crab cakes, so I got to try them. I went for the scallops, which were large and perfectly cooked. I had a tough time not going for the rock fish. Maybe next time. Or maybe I'll have the crab cakes, which were among the best I've had in years. Appearance of food also earns high grades. Appetizer options were limited, but we were satisfied. The coffepot desert was luscious and rich, but a bit too much. I wish they had a cheese plate for dessert, but those are hard to come by in the States. My wife enjoyed the glass of prosecco with her meal.

Very interesting restaurant. Finding it was difficult at first(as expected), navigating the building is hard and needed assistance from a few folks. The ambiance of the place is very cool with pictures of important figures. The food was a slight disappointment though. We went for Valentine’s Day, and was not impressed with the food for the price. Was cheaper than other fixed menus in the DC area, but I expected slightly better quality. My lobster was over cooked and the beef was dry. But we enjoyed the restaurant overall.

The service was abysmal. One waiter tried to tell me that a white wine I asked about was similar to a merlot! My original appetizer had clearly been reheated and my entree arrived lukewarm. I asked a waiter what the vegetable was on my plate he replied that he didn't know and left it at that. Lastly, the shocker was the bill that was not comensurate to the evenings experience. This restaurant has been plagued by bad service for 20 years. The restaurant renovation doeant fix this problem. The same waiters have been working there for decades. It's a mafia. On a positive note the portions were generous.

2/14/2018 The service was great and the restaurant was quiet; otherwise, it was a huge disappointment. The main courses were terrible. They baked and then fried the rockfish; the taste was bad and the appearance was repulsive. It looked like an old leather shoe. The vegetarian dish was a large inedible artichoke with a small amount of mushroom mixed with cheese in the center, with a tolerable, but not pleasing taste. The brocoli side was nicely prepared; the fettuccini alfredo side was overloaded with cream sauce. If you like basic chocolate, the chocolate overload dessert (chocolate brownie, chocolate ice cream and chocolate sauce) was good, and even better if mixed with the other dessert of fruit and ice cream. The ambiance is dated and more appropriate for a morgue, with the only windows opening into the cold and unattractive interior of the office bulding in which the restaurant is located.

Great food! We went on a Tuesday during lunch time, it was empty. Took a while for the waiter to notice to us but when they did they were very accommodating. The soup was warm when it came out, but the food was appetizing and good overall. It’s a very cool place overall, it’s like a top secret location (gotta go through security).

I have been to The Fourth Estate for dinner a number of times and am never disappointed. The food is always delicious and the value cannot be beat when using the Travel Zoo voucher. I would definitely go there to dine without the voucher.

Nice prestigious venue, especially for its professional, clubby atmosphere. Attentive staff with good service. House wines, including a tasty red Cabernet are recommended. The lamb was well prepared and quite tasty. The veal, while quite generous and savoury, also had fat that was hard to sort out because it came with a very heavy sauce. The coconut chicken and cured salmon toast appetizers were delectable, as were the accompanying vegetables. Although it was not packed on a Saturday night downtown, there was a good-sized clientele, and the noise level was very comfortable for making conversation. Free validated parking about 2 blocks away at PMI 1325 G Street.

The Fourth Estate is a go-to for my husband and me when we are looking for a place to grab a great meal after work. The menu changes so we always the opportunity to try something new. The food is consistently good and the service always outstanding.

Disappointed with the Saturday lunch menu. It was "brunch" and only had 2 options if I didn't want breakfast at 1:30 in the afternoon - a crab cake or a burger. Burger was just so-so, and the fries were OK, not great.

We were celebrating the 91st birthday of one of the ladies. We truly enjoyed our selves, food and the special attention given to our friend. On the ride back home, all she could say , "I've never felt so SPECIAL before".

The presentation of the food was awesome. I had the crab cakes and they were very good.

A hidden Gem! If you want an classy, white table cloth without the pretense this is the place. Open to the public though it exudes a private club atmosphere. Set in the historic National Press Club this eatery is the perfect place for a business lunch where you may want to be discrete and have meaningful conversation without loud room noise. They have a nook that can seat 6-8 people and be a semi private alcove.
The food is top notch with a limited menu that covers all bases as allows them to be good at every dish. The dining room has windows opening to the central atrium of the National Press Building. There's plenty of light to show off the wood paneling and newsy art work around the room.
Tucked away in the back of the larger press club space, getting to the room means walking past photos of press events over the years. Depending on the day you may also encounter news makers, politicians, NGOS, associations and other topical activities underway. It it's a busy day you walk past all of this to the serene calm of the restaurant. Kind of an interesting transition.
The restaurant is on the 13th floor of the press building. You have to know that it's there and navigate your way to the lobby off to the right. The club staff is always circulating and available to guide you to the Fourth Estate.
I know you'll have a good experience and can impress your guests with being a true DC insider who your way around the city to be aware of this find!
