The restaurant closed down - cancelled our reservation without letting us know.
We love this place. The service and the quality of the food were absolutely fantastic. It's not cheap, but you certainly get what you pay for here. If you are looking for inexpensive food dished out in massive oversized portions, this is not your place. If you value quality over quantity and like exploring new flavor profiles, then I think you will find this restaurant a fresh and pleasant surprise.
Delicious dinner and the service we received from Josh was great. He was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The barbecue sauce on the hangar steak was delicious! The wine was good as well. Wish we lived closer because we would go there frequently. Thanks for a great dinner.
My husband and I enjoyed another wonderful dinner at Foremost. The waitstaff was attentive but not intrusive and shared details about all the offering on the menu.
If forbidden rice is on the menu order it!!! The chef came and talked with us after dinner. We had a great experience and are looking forward to going back soon.
The food was unique and superb. Who would have guessed to pair jalapeño with tuna? Yet, they pulled it off with aplomb! The caprese was great even though tomato season hasn’t really hit stride. SLO, you better support this place because it competes with the best Nor Cal wine country cuisine!
The waiter did not come to the table until after our appetizers arrived. Fortunately the host brought us drinks & put in the appetizer order (after we sat there for 10 minutes). The appetizers were quite good - stone fruit salad & oysters on toast- but the entrees were mediocre - overcooked halibut. The waiter had a very difficult time understanding we wanted no starches just extra veggies with the entrees. The 2nd drinks arrived toward the end of the meal. Come on - there were only three other parties dining there that night. Our entrees were served to another table causing another delay. Service really needs to be improved. The ambiance is charming. Wine list was pleasing.
Good if you are looking for a wide wine list. The food took forever considering we were the only ones in the place. I ordered the steak and the first bite was pure gristle and fat. They replaced the entire steak. The empanadas were delicious. The waiter didn't know anything about the 2 ciders they carried. Came here with a gift certificate and I wouldn't return. If I had paid for the meal myself I would have been very disappointed and upset. Not all that. Definitely needs work on their food. Fancy but not worth the price or wait.
Great food, great service and super fresh food. We had a great experience!
Fantastic meal. Hadn't been here in years and it was a marked improvement. New chef is amazing.
We had a Graduation dinner there and the service was phenomenal, food was phenomenal and ambience was phenomenal!!. I would rate this one, if not the best restaurant in SLO
Outstanding food! Great wine selection. Great service. Beats most large city restaurants.
Although the menu “reads” well with interesting ingredients and preparations, it just wasn’t that flavorful or impressive. The visual presentations were attractive. The kitchen was slow; it took approximately 20 minutes to receive the empanadas appetizer and it was not busy; there were just 7 tables of guests at the time. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and kept our water glasses full. Being optimistic that it was unusual for it to be this “off” I would give it one more try out soon.
On an early Thursday night, we were the only customers in the restaurant. To me that’s not a good sign, but the service was attentive and the food was delicious. The prices were a bit high, and we weren’t offered the happy hour deals because we chose a table by the window instead of the dark bar. I wanted to try Foremost again because of the Chef, and I wasn’t disappointed.
I have had fabulous meals here in the past, but this past meal was sub-par. The appetizers were wonderful but the entrees were lacking.
For appetizers, the Kafta, empanadas and salads were excellent. Only issue, one person in our party did not get his appetizer until his entree came. They said it was due to a ‘computer glitch.’ I think they should of comped his appetizer since we had to ask what happened to his appetizer. We were waiting for him to get served, and it never came. I ordered the scallops for $32.00 and there were only 3 scallops. It seemed overpriced for 3 scallops. The meal was barely warm, again a hefty price tag. The scallops and sauce were very good, not warm enough. The chicken entree was very good, but the risotto was not good. I think it was farro and not arborio rice, I think the waiter should of explained this when he went over the menu. The person in our party that ordered the risotto never spoke up, so she was stuck. She never would of ordered a farro risotto. The fish was just okay, nothing special.
I hope this was just an off night w/entrees and service, Formost is a beautiful restaurant with a sophisticated menu. The night I was there it just wasn’t as good as it has been.
New chef to us. Unusual, flavorful food offerings. Great wine list. Very good service. 👍🏻 for the changes made.
Impeccable from start to end.
We really enjoyed our dinner at Foremost Wine! The menu is updated all the time with in-season and organic foods. Everything we had tasted great. We didn't expect the plating to be as great as it was either! Would definitely visit again next time we're in SLO.
Foremost is once again our favorite restaurant! The new chef is awesome and the staff are the friendliest in the county!
I was very happy to have Mother's Day brunch there. Everything was outstanding, and we definitely plan on going back.
Overall ok. Limited food selection although the Eggs Benedict were good. Nice ambience but probably will not go back...
Excellent food, wonderfully creative menu, great staff, beautiful location, killer happy hour.
I live here in SLO and haven't been to FOREMOST in a while...it was DELICIOUS! I ordered the roasted chicken which was exceptionally moist and flavorful. You could tell the chef knew what he was doing. Not only was it incredibly tasty, the presentation was 5 stars. A true culinary delight in a town that struggles with keeping good restaurants opened!! The only bummer might be if you like hard alcohol (it is all wine and beers)...that being said, the wait staff know their wines and had great recommendations.
Staff was great. Ceviche was very hot maybe too much jalapeño. Portions were small. I was disappointed that the soap dispenser in the men’s bathroom was empty and it was the start of shift. This is where the employees wash their hands as well. Food was overall mediocre
Halibut was overlooked and had bad odor.
We had been wanting to try Foremost for a few weeks and finally did. The staff are EXTREMELY attentive and friendly. The decor is great except for the artwork rotation which did not go with the rest of the place. The food was fresh and very well prepared. We were slightly disappointed at the number of wines offered especially since it describes itself as a wine bar and wine shop. Overall it was a great experience and we would definitely go again.
They do a very nice job at this restaurant. Great service, great food, great wine, it was a wonderful meal!
None of us had tried Foremost Wine Co. yet, but it was a special occasion and we decided to try someplace new to us. At the end of the meal my wife and I decided that that FWC was now on our go to list for special occasion meals, not to say we wouldn't choose it just for an enjoyable evening out as well.
FWC compares favorably with some top tier restaurants I've eaten at in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, and New Orleans, and is among the best that San Luis Obispo has to offer. The prices are comparable, but I have certainly paid more for less at another local restaurant, so I would call FWC a reasonable value for a high end meal. The service was attentive, and the GM visited our table just keeping his hand on the pulse of the restaurant. We'll be back.
My fiancé’s scallops were delicious. The wine was good. My “from the dock” was over cooked and under seasoned fish. The proportions of farro to everything else was off. Apart from that blunder, the experience as a whole was good. The customer services car was excellent.
I returned a second time to try some of the other items on the menu after my girls night out the weekend before, where we ordered every dessert and the burrata complimented by a bottle of The Fragrant Snare by Tooth and Nail. We had such a wonderful time that I wanted to go back! This time hubby and I decided we would order flights of the wines by the glass! This was so fun. We ordered the seafood dumplings, chicken confit empanadas, the pork belly and the lamb tartare. Everything was again beautifully plated with flavors that blended together offering an experience for flavor that I rarely find in the county! We moved on to our entrees, I asked for chef to choose. He chose roasted chicken with cabbage, green onions, Chinese pancakes, hoisin sauce...so good and so beautiful! We finished off with a dessert called Something Frozen, I wanted to see it played a second time because it’s just so cool and so Devine! I enjoyed every aspect of my visit here. Josh, our server had good solid information about the menu, including the wine list. I always appreciate it when a server can lead me into trying new things, wine, and food! The manager came to our table a few times to make sure everything was great...we even got a check in from the chef at the end of the evening! That was really special. Foremost offers a complex menu, food that is elegantly prepared and designed to wake up all your senses. It is an experience with food and wine. I will be back!
We'd eaten here two and a half years ago when the young French woman was the chef, and the dinner was outstanding. We'd looked forward to a chance to come back but, alas, were disappointed. The chef whose cooking we so enjoyed has left, and the newest chef needs to find his footing. The food was OK but not terrific. The seafood dumplings were tasty but with a crust too stiff, and the duck empanadas weren't bad. It took a surprisingly long time for the food to come given that we were the only people in the restaurant.
Way overpriced. Food portions were very small and drinks pours were less than generous. It was also very cold in the restaurant. Overrated.
Great new chef! The menu has been updated and upgraded!
Just an overall poorly run restaurant. Food was not good and this was food prepared with a limited fixed menu Valentines day event. With a limited menu, it sures seems they would have got it right. Ambiance good, but the restaurant experience dismal.
Valentine Day set menu left very little choice for entry, but was expected. Each selection was with the poorest cut of meat, fish, etc. Portions were the least amount possible one could serve and find on the dishes. Service was very, very, very slow!! The cost per person was in no way justified !!! We will not return.
Simple yet well done. Only downside is the parking and the chairs are hard
This was our 4th time dining at Foremost. Unfortunately the Chef/Menu had drastically changed. The food portions were ridiculously small for the price, the choices were limited and much too "Out of the box" for my tastes. Like I said, this was our 4th time dining and prior experiences were great... after we left (still hungry) we went around the corner to Goshi's and enjoyed some tasty sushi.
Great food. Lamb parpardelle FTW.
First time! SLO January deal! My salmon was some of the best I have ever had. My friends raved about the braised beef tagliatelle. Risotto was a little dry. Expected it to be creamier!
Excellent and innovative food, caring service
The food was just marginal. We were the first patrons of the evening. Out of the 3 menu requests I had they did not have any of them.
