Went for happy hour and dinner. Food was excellent. Service good but not great. Had to ask multiple time’s for a couple items from other servers after ours failed to bring the request after some time. The other servers brought the request right away. Food coming out was slow. Ordered shortly after 5:30 and happy hour food (fries, onion rings, etc. ) were out about 6:30 (end of happy hour). Felt like maybe they didn’t want us to order more wine for happy hour prices. Ordered a bottle just before the end of happy hour and was charged full price even after I questioned it. Will go back but not the total experience I was hoping for.
Wonderful meal! The HH menu was great. Our waiter was fantastic and so personable. He made it a wonderful experience.
This is my first visit and the food was absolutely amazing! We started with the Popovers which were stunning in looks and flavor. Then we shared a Little Gem salad and I almost ordered another because that was the best salad I have ever had. I will be going back for that! Then we had the Parisian Gnocchi and the Charred Green Beans on the side. Everything was delicious and perfect. Oh and the Buttermilk Blackberry pie and bubbly was spot on too!
One Covid concern I had was the host being directly inside the doorway put me sort of in the way I felt and it was not possible to give her 6 ft of space. So maybe move the host outside?
Last thing is the outside ambiance is very nice and romantic, except for this ONE table that was directly under the most unflattering street light. And the poor hostess kept trying to seat people there! Like no, I am too pretty to be sitting under a street lamp.
Lovely outdoor area, great service, all of the food was wonderful
great experience, innovative food, thoughtful wine menu and wine paring, great value, professional and courteous service, just a splendid experience overall. we will be going back again soon.
Foreign & Domestic is a go-to! Love their happy hour so much. It’s a great place to catch up with friends, especially over a gruyere popover. YUM!
I hadn't been back here in a very long time, so I was excited about going. They have implemented distancing efforts, and I felt safe here, even eating inside. We had an oyster tartine that was very good. Great taste to that. My friend had a lamb ragout that he enjoyed very much. I had a gnocchi dish, though, that was not as good. It was in a butter sauce, and it was extremely salty! I didn't really notice at first. I'm a salt fanatic, but even Anne Burrell would have thought this was over-seasoned! By the time I actually realized that there was way too much salt I had already eaten close to half of the dish, so I didn't feel like I could send it back at that point. Later my stomach made clear its disappointment with the dish.
This is our favorite restaurant in Austin. The service was excellent, and the food was so great. Max was our server and was a really wonderful guide to the menu and wine list.
Great dinner at F & D, our server Zach was really pleasant, food was great, and love the little neighborhood corner vibe
Creative, Well executed. A mix of new exciting and familiar all of which presented with style and panache.
All the charms and intentions of a European Bistro with expertly chosen Texas ingredients. It's a simple and an assuming ambiance with a menu that WAY over delivers for the price. No prevention whatsoever, but very high quality and expressive dishes. Also some notably awesome natural wines mixed in!
Funky place with exceptional food and service. Menu is very creative with unique pairings of herbs, flavors and techniques. Flavor abounds in all menu creations, and wine pairing is wonderful and low cost. F&D is definitely in step with Austin's vibe, and the culinary talents of this team are not to be missed! Sunday Brunch is exceptional, and Dinner menu has a lot of "Must Haves". Not a place to be missed.
Fantastic. Friend said it was the best Grits she had ever tried. Steak and eggs were on point. Would definitely go back!
Outstanding service and amazing food!!! We had a late reservation and our dinner service was above and beyond expected. Will definitely be back!
Just great. Spacing for COVID, excellent laid back service. The food is the best.
Wonderful, fresh and flavorful food and outstanding service.
Dinner was absolutely delicious, staff was friendly and hard working. It’s fun to see the kitchen staff cook and work so very hard! They were very knowledgeable and accommodating to my need for gluten and dairy free and even had menus. Loved it! Will be back. The tartare was amazing!!!
We loved our 1st experience at F&D and will return again and again. The only thing that was a bit of a bummer was the aggressive flies on the patio. They swarmed the entire time we were eating. Perhaps fogging or fans might help. Otherwise, everything was perfect!
It was perfect - from suggestions on food, leaving us time to converse, and finding us the perfect place to sit. And the food was amazing. We will be back!
Incredible happy hour and weekly deals. Had Max as our server and he was extremely personable, great to chat with and clearly very knowledgeable and passionate about the food and wine.
I went for the $1 oysters on Tuesday: briny and delicious. I also ordered the venison tartar. It was a nice lite dish. Perfect with a glass of wine.
We were down for the day from Dallas and made reservations the night before for lunch. The meal was excellent- the Gouda and black pepper popovers were stellar. (If they served a popover Benny, I would be all over that) my pork and grits were delicious and my husband’s steak and eggs were phenomenal. We saved our pancake for dessert and it was delicious- just wish I had tried it when it was still hot. Highly recommend!
The popovers are a must!
But...decided to sit outside for once and guess everyone else did that day too. Seating was a little too close for comfort in my opinion.
The food and service were great! We will be returning soon!
Tuesday $1 oyster and 1/2 off white wine bottle - great patio - service and food amazing as usual
This was my first in-restaurant dining experience during COVID and I felt completely safe. The staff wore masks the entire time, they expanded their outdoor seating, and the experience felt no different than before COVID.
The food was amazing
Robert went above and beyond to take our experience to the next level after being very disappointed to find out that guests can reserve oysters in advance and all the oysters had been spoken for. Make sure to put in your reservation on a Tuesday how many oysters you want to reserve or you could risk not getting any!
However, despite a rough start, we truly had an amazing experience. Knowledgeable staff, decadent gnocchi, amazing wine- couldn’t be happier with the way they handled it with grace.
The food and service was excellent. Very friendly staff. Highly recommend the chicken biscuit and gravy. Pancake was also wonderful.
One of the best meals we have had in Austin...Ever.
we reserved a table, which I thought I planned for Friday night, however when we arrived we we're corrected that I had actually made it for Saturday, (my error). But they took the opportunity to make customers for life and even with a full schedule they made it work!!!! The food was fabulous from start to finish, Max (who had every aspect of the menu prepared) & Pete (really convinced me the wild mushroom creme brulee was the right choice) were the best servers along with Joe the hostess with the "mostess" they're entire staff really made this what was almost a ruined evening (by my error) yet again another perfect choice. We will be back and once they expand to Tomball Texas we might burn our own kitchen down.
Excellent food and service, highly recommend! We especially appreciated the opportunity to talk to the chef/owner.
Nice place. Customers would benefit from more mosquito torches while enjoying the outdoor patio dining.
My burger was cooked perfect. Staff is attentive and ambience is warm and welcoming. A must try, again and again :)
Clean contemporary atmosphere with attentive service and great food.
Hadn’t been in years. Remember why we loved it so much!
Happy Hour menu was a great value.
