Flesh & Buns, from the team behind Bone Daddies and Shackfuyu, is located within the bustling Seven Dials area in Covent Garden. Inspired by Japanese izakayas, roughly translated as a pub or place designed for informal eating and drinking, Flesh & Buns is the first restaurant in London to specialise in gua bao buns (DIY filled steamed buns).
Below street-level, the restaurant has a bar area offering bar dining for up to 10 people, serving a variety of sake brands and a diverse range of cocktails including the signature Frozen Yuzu Margarita, alongside the restaurant’s varied sharing food menu. Draped fabric ‘noren’ screen curtains surround intimate dining booths and transport diners to an authentic Japanese drinking den experience – bookable and ideal for groups of friends or colleagues meeting for lunch, dinner or Flesh & Buns’ ever-popular Sunday Brunch.

This was my second visit to flesh and buns and the food still holds a high position in the foodie rankings with an amazing range of fillings for the fresh buns. The pork belly is still amazing. My only disappointment is that what was a restaurant filled with edgy decor and manga pop culture references in the toilets, now feels like another busaba or mainstream restaurant. Although it looks smarter, it has lost the individual qwerks that made it stand from The rest.

This was my first visit to Flesh & Buns since its recent refurb and I wasn't disappointed. Same excellent service and very tasty food. We had the lunchtime express menu, which was very good value, very filling and included a soft drink. We also added the spicy beef rice to our order and I would highly recommend trying this - it is served in a hot stone bowl that continues cooking the rice whilst at the table so you can have it as soft or as crispy as suits. The food was delivered promptly and was beautifully served - the salmon starters were particularly good and I really enjoyed my crispy duck main. Our waiters were attentive without being intrusive and were helpful and knowledgable. No coffee available (they don't serve it) but we enjoyed green and mint teas. We will be back,

Delicious bao and the best Korean wings ever!
Didn't have marshmallows for pudding, but they looked great with a little personal fire to toast them.

Booked for lunch for my boyfriend’s birthday and was an absolute treat from start to finish. We were greeted warmly and taken to our seats straight away even though we were early, and our waiter Antonio was attentive, friendly and an all round star. We had the tasting menu, which for £40 is a complete bargain for the amount and quality of the food, with the squid, the pork, the wings as particular stand out dishes. That said, my boyfriend is still raving about the broccoli side dish! We finished up with the s’mores, which was a fun and tasty way to finish the meal. Flesh and Buns had also taken the time to put a Happy Birthday and candle on the dessert plate, which was much appreciated. All in all we had a fantastic lunch, with outstanding food and service. We shall be back!

The food here is outstanding, a little bit pricey but definitely worth it for the quality of the food. I would highly recommend the crispy pork katsu 'flesh' in particular.
