Fish On Fire is a steak, seafood, and sushi restaurant located in Glenview, Illinois. Fish On Fire hits on every aspect of great Japanese cuisine. Guests can enjoy a plate of top-notch ingredients freshly cooked on the large hibachi grill, bite into some exceptionally fresh fish and seafood entres, or try one of the absolutely beautifully plated sushi rolls packed with flavor.
In addition to the usual suspects one normally sees at a Japanese restaurant, Fish on Fire has some unexpected, fun takes on international cuisine, as well. The Asian tacos are filled with marinated steak, guacamole, lettuce, shredded cheese and mango salsa. Another delicious option is the filet mignon spring roll filled with asparagus, tomato, onion and fresh greens wrapped in a soybean sheet and served with house miso sauce. Those in the mood for a libation should check out the drink menu where there are several authentic sakes.
Understaffed. Hibachi will be at least 30 min wait. Ok. Understood. But the staff that did help us didn’t bring our appetizers, then when reminded, they came AFTER the Hibachi and were burned. I mean c’mon. Manager did take off bill, but overall a miserable experience at one of our favorite restaurants. We may be done with this place.
Very nice restaurant, we were a group of four on what looked like a slow Saturday night for them - service was wonderful, food delicious. We had the asparagus/beef and the jalapeño bomb appetizers, the volcano and an eel roll (forget the name, both great but eel phenomenal), and 3 hibachi dinners: steak/chicken, steak/shrimp and steak/scallop. The guys had their own but we ladies split one of the hibachi dinners - thought might be too much for a whole one each with all the other apps/sides we got - was a perfect amount. Ginger salads and soup came with each hibachi meal. Cocktails good too - we had Geisha Blossoms, Caribbean Sunset (think that’s the name) and a couple of beers and sakes. Would definitely go again and bring the kids.
Great place to eat as always! Very friendly!
Great food. Waitress was terrible. She was rude and seemed like we were a bother to her.
Unremarkable. I’ve been here three times. Once my food never was prepared for over an hour and I left without it. Second time I got rancid salmon eggs. Third time, we did their happy hour. The “special” roll deals are half of a regular roll. But not half the price. It’s a fools happy hour. Don’t be a fool!
Service was a bit slow at the beginning, but the great food made up for that. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Very friendly and fun place. We took there our friends visiting from Finland and they had a blast. Oyster shots are fun, food is okay.
So fun both for hibachi and, sushi at the bar. It never disappoints.
Please see Yelp review.
It was Mother's Day, so I understand it was a busy night. We showed up a few minutes early for our 7 PM reservation. We were not seated until 7:30, but a party who arrived after us were seated before us. We were assured that our orders would be taken at the same time, but they were not.
We were the only ones in the “sushi table side”. The food was good. We had some nigiri and some rolls. It was all good. Service was very good. We may return yet plan to keep exploring sushi options.
Love Chef Martine, a very good chef!! Busboy tried to pull empty or almost empty plates too fast. We were celebrating our granddaughter’s birthday, and they just dropped a scoop of ice cream with no celebration!! Green tea ice cream didn’t taste good, and serving was like 1/2?” Scoop. No management welcomed us or came around to see if we needed anything.
Solid hibachi grill for the family...nothing stood out but I’ll be back.
Sticky everywhere and the chefs do the same old routine.
We ordered spicy seafood ramen and some sushi rolls. Everything was fresh and flavorful.
We made a reservation using OpenTable. When we arrived, although the Open sign was lit and we had a reservation and it was still an hour before their posted closing time, we were told that the kitchen was closed and we could not be served. When we mentioned our reservation through OpenTable, not only were they unaware of our reservation, they were also unaware of OpenTable.
Good food and just the right amount. Our fish and steak bites were cooked to perfection and the chef tossed broccoli for us to catch in our mouths which our 15-year-old loved. Service was neither rushed nor slow.
I really enjoyed my experience! The food was great and made very nicely. The rice was really yummy. Also, our waiter who cooked in front of us was nice and fun!😀😀
The good was average. The ambiance was ridiculously loud. And the service was horrible. There are lots better Japanese Steak Houses on the North shore. Try Kegon on Waukegan Road in Northbrook. Way better than this place!
Excellent food! Tucked in the back of the strip mall.
We had a terrible experience. We waiting for an hour for a chef and when he came, he was
I have been here twice now and I have not been disappointed. Very good menu choices and reasonably priced. The food is clean and tasty and prepared expertly by quality hibachi chefs on clean grills. There is no smell when you leave the restaurant; it is airy and well ventilated. Staff is attentive and friendly. Everything tastes good which is important but also that everyone LOOKS good which is paramount since one eats with the eyes first. The golden shrimp was delicious as was my steak. Scallops and mushrooms were also scrumptious and cooked to perfection. I have to say this is one of the best for hibachi around the Glenview area. Highly recommend this place for any occasion. They are very accommodating and want to make you happy.
Great food but they are always short a chef so you have to wait awhile for a chef
Love it there!! One of our favorite places to go as a family.
Very nice layout and top of line sushi. I'm a big critic on sushi and this place blew me away. Service was great treating me and my wife to ice cream for our anniversary was very nice. Will definitely come back to visit this place. We went on a Wed right when they opened because we don't care for crowds and was perfect for us.
The food was delicious but the service was slow. Once we sat down it took awhile for them to take our drink order. Then, service continued to be slow to get our food and to get our dessert/bill. When we asked for ice cream for my kids' meals the waiter seemed annoyed even though the meals come with ice cream. We would go back because we enjoy hibachi and the food is delicious, but the service can be improved.
Great. Eat there often. Lots of fun. ............
Lots of fun
The employees were awesome. The food was good. It’s a japenese steak house I thought one side would be hibachi style. And that the other side would be authentic Japanese. But the other side was the same Food without the show. Otherwise we had a wonderful time!!
Update: Have been back several times. Food is always high quality, my boys enjoy the show and it is never hard to get a table. Highly recommend. Original review: My 8 and 3 year old love eating at Fish on Fire. And my husband and I really like the food. The teppanyaki show is always fun and you get plenty of food. It is a bit pricey but the steak and shrimp are excellent quality and we always have plenty of leftovers to take home and enjoy the next day.
This is our second time here and both times, they were out of at least one item on the menu. Last week it was scallops with no explanation like they weren't fresh or weren't good or something that made sense - no just said they didn't have them.
Everyone enjoyed their food, but it was no bargain and I don't think it has anything special over similar restaurants.
In a small strip mall, in the back. Was not sure what to expect, but had heard good things so we gave it a try. Restaurant is big and very pretty, service was fantastic, large bar with Japanese beers on tap. The sushi and sashimi were super fresh and delicious. If you are a sushi fan, I would definitely give it a try!
Enjoyed our dinner. Good food, drinks and super nice restaurant
Great food and atmosphere.
Sushi and sashimi were fantastic. We really enjoyed the wide variety of sushi appetizers as well. Some reminded me of what I find when I visit Matsuhisa in Beverly Hills, CA.
Beautiful presentation of delicious sushi and maki.
Relatively new restaurant on the side of a strip mall...not that easy to spot! It's primarily a Japanese-style restaurant where a chef cooks on the grill at your table, but there's also a separate area for those who prefer to sit at regular tables. Along with the cook-to-order steak, shrimp, chicken and scallops there's sushi, tempura and a few other dishes. Our chef was delightful, very engaging, did the normal knife juggling, onion volcano and a few other 'tricks' to delight the children. This is a great place for kids - they were kept occupied by the 'show.' Most importantly, the food was very good, and since it begins raw right in front of you, it's obvious everything is quite fresh and of good quality. Steak was great, shrimp was excellent, veggies were good, fried rice very good. It is not inexpensive - but I do think it was worth it. A great place to celebrate a family or friend's birthday. Cocktails were very good (I had an excellent mojito)! We've been to several local restaurants of this type, and this is by far the best with respect to staff and food quality.
We went to Fish On Fire on New Year's Eve. The food was terrific, and the service was friendly. Some at our shared table had not had this style of food before and needed more explanation than the language-challenged wait staff could offer. So I recommend watching a YouTube video of a Benihana dinner before coming here if you are a novice. For me and my wife, we are experienced, and we helped the others at the table to understand the process.
The "shtick" is what you would expect, including the flaming onion volcano. The food was better than most, less salty than most, and the choice of cooking style (Golden, Hibachi or Garlic) was appreciated (I ordered garlic style). The salad and soup were typical, but of good quality (and not salty).
Our only complaint was that we both thought the Mai Tai's were much too sweet and weak, and really not too good. The sake list is very good, and there are bottled drinks/beer/wine etc. I would stick with those or straight alcohol (scotch, vodka, etc). They have a well-stocked bar.
None of my criticisms would deter us from going again. The gentleman who was the host is, I believe, the owner. He is extremely nice and accommodating (we needed to choose a different table when we first got there).
Overall, Fish On Fire is a winner. We are tough customers and we were very pleased overall. It is definitely the best of its kind in the area. My very good and knowledgeable friend says the sushi is excellent, and that is what I will try next. Go to Fish On Fire!
Fish on Fire has outstanding service. The chef was amazing and really good with children. We were entertained the entire dinner. The food was incredible. Very fresh seafood cooked perfectly. A very well-run restaurant.
The place was very good, seated on time with our OpenTable reservation. Although it wasn't full but still before all of our party showed up. The service was great always updating us about our order and bringing the food in reasonable time. All the food we ate was very fresh (for sea food is must), we ordered sushi stuff and cooked dishes, all were great. I tried a little of each. Prices are reasonable with drinks (1 each) and tip ended up about 50 per person. Will be back. Lunch menu looked reasonable 10-15 for most 3 course lunch.
