Newly renovated, The Fish Hopper, once an original sardine cannery building, offers spectacular views of the beautiful Monterey Bay from every table including our heated outdoor patio. The Fish Hopper specializes in fresh sustainable seafood, certified Angus beef, pastas and live shellfish. Our seafood is either locally caught or shipped in fresh daily; our produce is locally grown in the Salinas Valley. Some favorites are fresh Monterey Bay abalone, Macadamia-crusted halibut, our famous “Tomahawk Chop” long bone-in Rib Eye, or fresh Dungeness Crab. We wanted to give this tourist spot a chance but it was disappointing to say the least. Too bad because the seafood is super fresh but the execution of the dishes were awful. Service was polite and friendly but the food was sub par. “Award-winning chowder”... maybe 20 years ago - it was loaded with flour as a thickener and left a film in your mouth. I’ve honestly had better chowder from a grocery store. It was expensive and not one dish was worth the price. We should’ve known, it’s an expensive tourist trap!

The food was delicious starting with the clam chowder to the seafood pasta and bone in ribeye that was cooked perfectly. In addition, we had great service. We plan on coming again next time we're in Monterey.

Mediocre tourist trap that doesn't meet the standard of California restaurants. Expensive, indifferent service (3 items we ordered for diner were incorrect and 2 were forgotten). I was really disappointed in our experience.

I have eaten there a number of times, and the food is always good, and usually the service is good. Everything was per the norm, except for the service. This may have just been because of the particular waitress, and not necessarily reflective of the overall service provided by the restaurant. However, we ended up waiting quite a bit, always having difficulties getting refills on drinks, or even getting the final bill.

The food was just okay...not worth the $50/plate price tag. Service was tolerable. Odd they have a kids menu but no coloring/crayons. We never received Rolls like we saw the tables around us receive. Felt like the place had an identity crisis...expensive but super loud and attempting to be casual.

Really appreciated ease of making reservation and then getting seated immediately and without disruption. Definitely wouldn’t attempt to do a walk in during a holiday weekend, but it was so easy to make reservation online and then be seated to enjoy our experience immediately.
Food consistently amazing, service so wonderful, and drinks are on key.
Will return again!

Food was good. Unfortunately the appetizer, salads and entree all arrived at the same time - like literally. The server was accompanying dating when I requested he remove my salad as I did not want my entree and appetizer to get cold. Artichoke was pretty good. Blackened mahi mahi was also good. Excellent clam chowder. Great wait staff & beautiful ambience.

The food was pretty good. I really enjoyed the Macadamia Crusted Halibut paired with the sweet potato ring it sat on. My wifes food was good too. My only grips are 1: the Loaded Bloody Marry was $10 plus an additional $6 upcharge for three “Prawns.” I quote because all they really are where 3 boiled, large “jumbo” shrimps. Im a cook, i know the difference between jumbo shrimp and an actual large prawn. 2: The plate prices where a little steep. Both dishes were $37... i know a business needs to make money but 37 bucks for a dish that costs $4~$6... really?

I have been coming here with my husband for the last 3 years for our Valentines day outings. It is actually one of the places my parents would frequent when they were dating too. Always a pleasure. It was such a treat this year the outdoor dinning area was open for dinner. Such a lovely spot.

We had reservations, arrived early and were told that we could not be seated early despite dozens of open tables. We decided to have drunks at the bar (bad idea) the bar area was wet and sticky. We had to listen to all the bar tenders mimic/make fun of the only Hispanic bartender's accent. Every time the bar tender would say something one young lady in particular would mimic what he said and laugh. Very unprofessional and quite frankly just all out rude. Finally, our table is "ready" come to find out that our table is right next to the kitchen door. All night I could hear plates slamming and had to bear with waiters bumping into my shoulder every 20 minutes. That food was substandard. My salmon was over cooked. The only thing that was good on my plate was the mixed vegetable. Sadly, this was my first and last time to the fish hopper.

When you have a world class Chef, ( Chef Mo )running an amazing restaurant likeThe Fish Hopper, nothing but the best comes out of the kitchen. Hands down my favorite restaurant on Cannery Row.
