My husband LOVED the calamari! He said it was the best he has ever eaten and he orders it everywhere he goes! Sorry you will not have this when you open again! We will be back when it is Parsons 32!
Good restaurant but it is closing for renovation. Will be reopened in 3 months with a new name.
This restaurant is closing which, after eating there didn't surprise any of us
Ok. Don't need to say more
I have lived in Charleston for a year and a half and this is the best meal I have ever had. Every part of the meal made it an amazing experience and perfect way to celebrate my birthday. Our service was exceptional, and the food was delicious. We ordered numerous appetizers to share for the table and wished we had ordered everything. The carrots, broccolini, corn, calamari and mushrooms were out of this world. For the main course I had the fresh catch which was grouper and it was mouth watering. Everyone was raving about their dinner and left clean plates. We couldn't stop talking about how amazing it was. Our server even brought us a complimentary dessert without us ordering anything and it was the literal cherry on the cake. Everything was so fresh, flavorful and unforgettable. I will definitely be back and recommend this restaurant to everyone I encounter. Thank you for a fantastic experience and I look forward to coming back!
Great food and service. Excellent support by the sommelier.
We had a delicious meal and great service at Fish. The food was fresh, creative, and fantastic.
We got lucky and caught dinner here on a quiet Sunday evening and it was fabulous! My husband and I ordered 5 different plates (some were small plates!) to share... it's really the best way to appreciate this restaurant's menu and the thought, love and talent coming from the kitchen. The desserts were to die for! Our server, John, was great, too! It was an excellent dining experience from beginning to end and reasonably priced considering some of the spots around here are quite overpriced for average food at best. I'll be back! For sure! Cheers.
...and two days later we went back for dessert again!
Dishes were great. Daily fish special was flavorful.
Service was lacking. Sommelier actually carried on a conversation, but waiter was dispassionate/disinterested.
Bread guy plops down a plate and sort of skulks away.
Entrees appear without even a word or a smile
Need attention to front of house!! Big disconnect between the obvious culinary talents of the chef and the lack of training and level of professionalism of the wait staff. I would recommend this restaurant for the food only - definitely not for the service or overall experience. This chef needs to be asking some hard questions of the management or move to another restaurant where the level of food would match the level of service.
A most enjoyable dining experience. Server Jeremy was accomplished, provided excellent descriptions of menu items, and managed pacing superbly. The food was perfectly prepared.
Started off the evening with crab ragoons (they let us order these from the bar menu because they were not busy right then). We both order drinks there tequila cocktail is great! We ended up getting the wreck fish and muscles. Everything was amazing with great service!!
Love FISH by Jose Andres. I was so excited when this restaurant opened and even more excited that the most friendly server in the world, Christian (Chris), is working there. He moved from America Eats Tavern where I frequented on a regular basis. He truly has so much knowledge of all the dishes and makes excellent suggestions. FISH has the best mac and cheese you will ever put in your mouth. It is even better than America Eats. I always ask for it to be piping hot and extra done. FISH also has the best cob salad I have ever eaten. I absolutely love watching the detail and consideration that Steffon and Sidiki put forth in making not only the salads but the cold fish dishes. If you sit near the cold prep station you will watch as they use such precise skills. It is pretty impressive that they care so much along with everyone that works there. There is no slacking. The cheddar biscuits are so good that you will definitely ask for a second basket. There are several dishes that everyone should try from the shrimp and grits to the Memphis chicken. For dessert I would try the chocolate bar (cake). It is beyond moist. It is a deconstructed version of their (America Eats Tavern) Martha Washington cake. Yummy. My absolute favorite thing besides the service is the Tractor Pull. It is the best bourbon drink.
Absolutely fabulous. Every dish was prefect. We shared 8 dishes. Great staff.
Very much over rated. Asian spin that is very salty. Portions are small. Items under $12 are considered small bitest. Had calamari as an appetizer for two. It was the best dish of the evening. Husband had a local fish. Tiny portion served in a huge bowl. Silly and over charged for $28. I hat the seafood hot pot. So salty I could not eat. All you could taste was soy sauce. Again $28. Our server knew we were disappointed and gave us a complimentary dessert. Service was excellent but food is sub par.
Excellent food in an atmosphere of fine dining. Creative dishes from vegan thru carnivore. Very knowlegable staff
I have been to Fish a number of times, and it is always a good experience.
a bit on the "high price / small portion" side, but still incredibly high quality
Great experience all around. Had a drink and some happy hour food at the bar, Pat took good care of us, check out 1/2 price wine on Tuesday's! Dining room was quiet, but good for catching up with out of town guests! We will be back!
This restaurant was one of the worst I have been to in many years... At 58 years of age I have been to restaurants across the world, and cooked in seafood restaurants in summers during college. It is easy to overcook seafood, and Fish did that well... Rubbery shrimp the dominant symptom in a host of skimpy attempts at culinary arts... the best of which were mediocre. Skimpy, overpriced, and without skill or taste define this restaurant called Fish in Charleston.
Fish has been a favorite for many, many years. Last year was so so but this year the food was great, our server was terrific and the ambiance is very pleasant. We will continue to keep Fish on our restaurant list.
Everything was great! Rebecka was a fantastic server, knowledgeable and attentive. The menu is set up for communal dining which is always a great way to eat. We got to try so many different things and everything was delicious.
They have updated the menu and not in a particularly good way. Eliminated the dim sum for example which was a family favorite. Very limited offerings, they are well prepared though if you like the fusion style they represent. Moscow mule was terrible though. No copper mug and house made ginger beer totally overpowering the drink.
Brilliant local ingredients, creatively prepared. Excellent, professional server's
Thanks so much for being open late on Memorial Day
Sadly, while the oysters were fresh, the vegetarian soup option was not well balanced, the tuna tartare was delivered after every other person had finished their course, and the vermicelli and cheese with ham & broccoli was only ho-hum. I am a huge fan of the Jose Andres brand, but this meal underwhelmed me. It was so dispiriting, we didn't bother with finding out how mediocre the deserts were. Pity.
Celebrating a retirement
Had a very interesting and excellent meal Saturday night. The combination of tastes was pleasing, out server was very knowledgable about the dishes and combinations. A pleasant meal was had by all. Menu is a reasonable size to please, with out being a book.
Food was very good, but a little pricey for the portion sizes. Charleston has too many amazing restaurants to recommend anywhere that is not absolutely great.
Exc lent meal, great service by Patrick!
I had the wreck Fish entre. The fish was cooked to perfection in a coconut lemongrass broth. It was a half portion vs any other time I've ordered it was served with a tablespoon of greens . The waiter was not that busy but was certainly not interested in serving my friend and I. That's it $35. For the entre. Too pricey for Charleston.
Food was great in taste but awful small in portion size. Menus are in rather heavy metal clip boards that were easily dropped if you didn't realize how heavy they were. Makes quite a racket. Don't really see the point. Service was good, quick, and pleasant.
Will return but wish the serving sizes were more commensurate with the price.
Excellent service, cool ambiance, and the menu is so creative and delicious. Our group of five had Paul as our waiter. I'm coming back to Fish next Friday with a group of seven, some vegetarians. I'll be sure to ask for the specials.
A superb meal was had. Our waiter Paul was very knowledgeable. The food was excellently prepared and presented.
Our 12 visit to Fish . The food is excellent but the menu set up with entrees and everything else is "for the table" and it was hard to know how much to order. The salads were good but small and a salad with an entree of excellent tilefish (4 oz without any sides) left several of us feeling like we didn't have enough to eat.
Fortunately, we could go to the ice cream shop up the street.
We went to brunch and the menu was very limited, very plain. I had a bland fajita and my husband had pancakes with 2 strips of bacon. Nothing special......
The food is creative and very good. Seafood is definitely the focus. There could be a few more options on the menu for meat eaters, but the variety of sides was good. Portion sizes are small and plate sharing is recommended. The mocha cheesecake was absolutely delicious. I would recommend it to friends that like seafood, healthy food, or creative dishes.
Great food and surprisingly enough they had a few wonderful vegan options as well. Tofu and cucumber clay pot was delicious, as was the vegan-made potatoes (made without butter) and carrots. I wasn't paying for this meal, but if I was, the only thing I would complain about was the price. The plates are small and not cheap! But if you are looking for an upscale meal with both seafood and vegetarian options, Fish definitely gets my vote!
Very limited menu, plain decor. The food was ok but will not return to Fish. Not much on the menu and much better restaurants to choose from in Charleston.
A unique menu with plates for sharing and a limited full meal selection. Food was excellent and included several sous-vide prepared dishes.
Exceptional meal. Fish never disappoints. One of our favorites in Charleston.
The food was amazing. Wish the portion sizes were larger. I wanted MORE!! Waiter should bring bread to go with those amazing broths!
