Best Hot Spot Restaurants in Scotts Valley

Perhaps I had high expectations for a Michelin starred restaurant. Overall the food and drinks were very good, but not consistently exceptional. The hamachi sashimi and nigiri were delicious, as was the tuna tartare and tacos, but the tuna maki was average. The service was also mixed, with attentive bus boys but less attentive waitstaff. We had to wait for a long time after we were seated for the waiter to arrive and take our order. I asked for no jalapeno on the hamachi sashimi and the waiter even confirmed my choice, but the dish arrived with jalapeno! Luckily I could easily remove the jalapeno and that didn't detract from the flavor or quality of the hamachi.

Impeccable service from start to finish! Everyone, from the kind woman at the front door to the waitstaff and management, was wonderful. Our server (I unfortunately didn’t catch his name!) was incredibly patient and attentive, offering helpful menu explanations without being pushy. The food was delicious and perfectly paced. The support staff was consistently on top of things. Our glasses were never empty, and a dropped fork was replaced before we even noticed! We especially appreciated David, the house manager, who was so charismatic and friendly that our toddler kept asking for "Uncle David" to come back.
