The Royal is operated by James Hickson, who has a solid hospitality background having learned his trade at well-loved restaurants and gastropubs including St John, Great Queen Street, The Canton Arms and Moro. Originally a hotel, the building sat empty for several years until 2022, when the Cove was renovated, restored and reopened with a new lease of life. The most delicious food! Everything was so interesting and fresh and classic at the same time. The asparagus and pork were my faves! And the yoghurt ice cream with granita was amazing. Surely the best view in Hastings!? The staff and ambience of the restaurant was perfection. I am a Hastings girl and it’s wonderful to see this standard of hospitality in our town. Thank you!

Pleasant meal and ambience . Lovely area overlooking the beach . We had Sunday lunch with a lovely pianist playing . Sadly when headaches break there was no background music . Hopefully the sort this out .
