Rengaya has been serving YAKINIKU in North Sydney since 1993, making it one of Australia’s pioneering Japanese barbeque restaurants. Now, that tradition is set to continue at its new digs on Miller Street – just a short stroll from the original location – in a much more modern, striking setting. The new fit-out features bar-counter seats around an open kitchen, red booth seating divided by Japanese-style timber panelling and a hard-to-miss chandelier. There’s also a 20-seat private dining room. We use only the finest ingredients such as Japanese Black Cattle made in Australia for beef, Sashimi and Seafood fresh from the sea.     The mix of indoor and outdoor seating made things a bit chaotic, and we ended up with two wrong dishes at our table. But besides that, the service was really great overall. The sake on the drinks menu was definitely a highlight. It came in these chilled silver cups that really brought out how smooth and soft the sake tasted when drinking it straight. The cocktails, on the other hand, were a bit boring compared to that. The food itself was really good quality

    A fantastic dining experience from start to finish. The food was vibrant and beautifully balanced — standout dishes for me were the prawn betel leaf, the tender pork belly glazed in Thai whisky sauce, and the scallops. I also loved the mango and lime parfait, bursting with flavour. Cocktails were creative and expertly made, pairing wonderfully with the menu. Service was warm, attentive, and effortlessly paced. Highly recommend! We will be back.
