After closing for 2 weeks for an interior refurb the pub now has a fresh and clean new look. The creation of a proper snug is part of the change and is available for private hire for small gatherings or family occasions. The rear barn has also undergone refurbishment and is now a wonderful room dating back to the 15th Century with oak beams and flagstone floor folding doors open out on to the rear courtyard and river Stour beyond. The barn forms part of the restaurant but can also be made available for small functions and parties of up to 20 - 25 people.

Our magical conservatory restaurant is set amid Updown’s rambling grounds. Dine under the grape vines surrounded by beautiful 17th century brick and watch the chefs in the open kitchen tending to the wood fired grill and original farm house bread oven. The restaurant has been completely transformed by owners Ruth and Oli to be heated and fully enclosed and is open year round.Menus will be small, hyper seasonal and use the best of local and European produce and change on regular basis to reflect what’s best. Everything is cooked over wood in the open kitchen. There is a short list of exciting wines of limited availability, local beers and seasonal cocktails.Monday - Friday lunch as well as Monday & Tuesday dinner we have a 3 course set menu along side our full menu at £35. On Wednesday nights along side our full menu we cook a Steak Night menu , priced at £30 per person for 3 courses. On Sunday our restaurant is only open for lunch 12 -4pm.

Located just off the A258 between Deal & Sandwich, our dining room is a 4th year recipient of the coveted AA rosette award for culinary excellence. Our tap room is a unique collaboration with Eastry artisan brewer Time & Tide, whose award winning beers are carefully curated and complement a wonderful range of wines. Unfussy, clean & simple dishes prepared entirely from fresh local produce (cooked exceptionally well) is what you may expect. Our kitchen team source virtually all their ingredients locally, including seafood from Jenkins and Sons of Deal.
