- WWilliamVIPPhiladelphia County •56 reviews5.0Dined 3 days agoThis is my second trip here and this time we dinned in the outdoor space. This may be one of the best outdoor eating spaces in Philly perhaps equal or better than the Morris Hotel. It is actually quiet enough to carry on a conversation. This was also true inside to a slightly lesser extent. Service is exceptional, better than the old "French service" which could be a little intrusive. A team will bring the food when it's hot but the real plus is that the wait staff is knowledgeable about the food and drinks. They have an unbelievably large collection of Amaro and the bartender is an excellent guide to, what was to me, this unknown and exotic liquor. Give it a try. But you want to know about the food. The menu is organized by size of the servings and cost but this fits fairly nicely into appetizer, pasta course and main dish. Don't feel compelled to stick with tradition. Go for more small plates if you want. I thought the mushroom dish on my last visit was excellent. This time I had artichoke and I liked the slightly burnt taste. I also h special, shrimp with orecchiette. The light red sauce actually seemed more hearty with less of that acid taste. There is a slightly hot pepper taste which gets more pronounced as you eat more and get to the bottom of the dish. My wife had the dorado. The fish did it's job and was good but the heavy sauce on top was the winner. This was very different and probably used some herbs with which I'm not familiar. For dessert I usually stick to the affogato and the expresso was added to the gelato tableside. The ambience of this restaurant is also a little different for Philly. I would say it's sophisticated but some of the clientele certainly seemed relaxed in the standard t shirt and cut offs. Everything is good but the main draw to me is that this is a cuisine that's different and not readily available. Yes, it is Mediterranean but with very different seasoning. Also there is a very extensive wine list of hard to find wines.More infoBastiaPrice: Expensive• Mediterranean• Fishtown•4.8
