Butterjoint is a comfy bar and restaurant located in North Oakland. Our welcoming and eclectic atmosphere is appropriate for almost any occasion - whether it be meeting a friend for a drink, celebrating an important event, or relaxing after work. Our menu is a mixture of familiar Pittsburgh foods (think pierogies, hamburgers, French fries) and French bistro classics (beef tartare, raclette, mussels), and seasonal classics that come and go throughout the year. We put care into our vegetarian dishes too, including making our own tempeh, falafel, and veggie patties from scratch. Menu items change frequently--usually every day--and reflect many long-standing relationships we have with farms and breweries in our region. In addition to reservations, we also have a thirty seat bar that is first come, first serve. We don’t know exactly how old the bar is, but it’s at least seventy years old (probably older) and very cozy. Our friendly bartenders are here to make something you like.

The entire experience is beautifully designed with reminders of the true commitment and purpose of this restaurant…. The youth they serve. The thoughtful placement of seating and open kitchen promotes a view of the collaboration between the staff and the youth. During our ticketed family style dinner, the chef detailed each course, explaining the pairings and sourcing. I really enjoyed each course, even trying new items! I love supporting the mission and the great food is a wonderful bonus.

Casbah was very good. Food & service were great. It was loud so we had a little bit of an issue talking and hearing at our table.
