The Royal is operated by James Hickson, who has a solid hospitality background having learned his trade at well-loved restaurants and gastropubs including St John, Great Queen Street, The Canton Arms and Moro. James is hands-on at the pub, overseeing the relaxed yet lively atmosphere, friendly service and sophisticated food and drink. The Crown is an independently run award-winning freehouse in the heart of Hastings Old Town, open at 11am every day. Our kitchen is open 12-4, 5 till 9. We serve modern British food in a friendly informal environment using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. The food was very nice and the service was excellent. It was a hot day and we found the temperature inside to be a bit too hot for comfort but it got better into the evening. We arrived earlier than our booking and really appreciated the staff finding us a table. Would definitely recommend the restaurant - well worth a visit!

We’ve been to Lury a few times now and every time it’s a fab experience, we love it! The menu has something that sets itself apart from others for miles around. It’s so good to see such a quality restaurant spring up in the not so salubrious surroundings. Bravo!
