In addition to the food, we offer a selection of fine wines, quirky cocktails, and have a collection of over 25 craft gins available.World War I poet Siegfried Sassoon lived in Matfield and is the inspiration behind our name. Sassoon was awarded the Military Cross for "conspicuous gallantry" and later won acclaim for his writing. We're pretty sure he would have loved our food too!A warm welcome awaits diners from General Manager and Director Tom Haacke and his team. Welcome to The Warren Restaurant, an extension of The Crowborough Estate, holding stock of Sussex Cattle, Boer Goats, Fallow deer, and Wild boar amongst others which the restaurant draws on for its menu. We are a Dog Friendly restaurant. Given the provenance, the kitchen predominantly cooks British food, occasionally dipping into other cuisines to provide a vehicle for flavours – nettle gnocchi for example, or poached oyster with wild boar chorizo.WE wanted a unique fun and informal restaurant, to offer their Crowborough Estate’s produce from.     We had the set lunch and the choices and food was really lovely. Great value for beautifully prepared dishes. We were sat in the Orangerie which is the most delightful, light-filled space. And best of all? Our sweet dogs were welcome which was a delightful surprise. I highly recommend

    Such a lovely evening for our anniversary they even took the time to say happy anniversary and gave us free glass of champagne each. Such a lovely extra touch. It was our first time here and have wanted to go for ages and it didn’t disappoint beautiful Resturant and brilliant food. Can’t wait to go back to try rest of menu

    We arrived and was seated straight away, the place is cosy and decor is lovely too. The Staff were very friendly and welcoming, The steak frites experience was absolutely amazing , the steak melts like butter in your mouth and you get two helpings which is amazing!

    The food and service were incredible, the staff are an asset and the food is worth every penny. Celebrated my dad’s 50th and they made the effort of acknowledging it was his birthday and brought out a cake for everyone in the restaurant to sing for him. Thank you!! I didn’t catch the wait staffs name but thank you again.
